viviette | Ok Someone in a previous professions thread said add a day for each year on earth to get your progressed birthday That brings me to 12/9 But actually it ended up being 13/9 on astro.com probably because I was born early in the morning Now to check my inputting— On astro.c** I added my normal bday And in Extended chart selection I selected Progressed Chart* for today What the ... Is this correct ? Because I suddenly have tons of planets in Libra 3rd house........ 😮 |
Graham | The first day of birth equates to the first progressed year of life ... The day after birth equates to the second progressed year of life ... And so on, until a person born on (say) May 1st has 31st May as his/her progressed chart for age 30 to 31. So ... the the progressed chart for age 30 will have the planets and house cusps at the same locations that they will have been if that person had been born in the same place and at the same time on 31st May rather than 1st May. |

Thank-you Graham and yes that’s the procedure I followed and then I generated a chart on astro.c** but I am still surprised But I notice my generated Progressive chart doesn’t include the natal so I can’t see the aspects they form to eachother, which I (just now) have seen is the way to go. *hunting for info* |
Graham | At astro.co ... enter the exact time and place of your birth ... then select natal and progressed as the chart type. That produces your natal chart; the progressed locations of planets (as at the day selected by you), the day-for-a-year progressed position of the house cusps (as at the day selected by you) and an aspectarian (showing the day-for-year progressed to natal aspects). [Note that the house cusps move through approximately 60 arc minutes per annum/5 arc minutes per month in this progressed chart ... but actually transit through approximately 361 arc degrees per annum.] |

Done 😊 I further read that I should reduce the orbs to 15% and only take into account the « natal to progression aspects. » So I wouldn’t take into account things like loads of planets in the 3rd house .. and the progressive aspects within themselves ? A pity because the reduced orb just progressive aspects give: Sun * Neptune, Moon conj Chiron, Venus conj Pluto, Venus conj AC, which seem nice .. Whereas the recommended natal to progressive aspects give a lot of squares, so I am a bit sorry about that. What are your thoughts Graham ? What route do I take in this? |
Graham | I would use maximum orbs of 1 degree for progressed and transit planet aspects to the natal chart. That would mean reducing the Astrodienst default orb to 10% - as I believe the default is 10 degrees. Progressions indicate our current focus, and transits tend to create events relating to that focus. For example, a progression to natal Mercury might result in an interest/focus on communicating ... And a transit to that progression might create an opportunity to learn something about how we communicate with others. Do you have a natal+progressed chart (perhaps of a celebrity born on the same day as you) that we could use here to illustrate the process?

Kannon McAfee | viviette, Progressed planets making aspects to other progressed aspects do count, of course. It is just that the natal chart gives the context for where everything is happening. As to orbs for progressed aspects, the objective is not to collect as many as you'd like to be there, but to consider only those closest to culmination. Don't cherry pick your progressed aspects or you'll be deluding yourself. You probably got the 15% orb setting in Astrodienst from me. That filters out all the non-active aspects so you can read the aspectarian without killing your eyes or missing something. There will still be some aspects left in the aspectarians that are too wide to be active (prog to prog or prog to natal), but allow them to be read much more easily and spot those aspects that are closest to culmination -- within 0°05' of exact (1° or less for luminaries because they are much larger bodies) -- which are the ones that matter most. ------------------ Soul Stars Astrology by The Declinations Guy Expert birth chart rectification The birth chart is a starting place not a pre-determiner of fate. |

Transits TO progressions ? Not sure I found that table on Astro.*** Thanks, would like to Graham, but while I found around 5 celebs, none of them have a listed birth time! But I am very much interested in unraveling current focus.

The current focus (for you) would be best explored by posting your own natal+progressed chart on the personal readings board. But ... the process can be illustrated by posting a noon-time, Equal Houses, Greenwich uk location chart for any of those 5 celebrities. We need only to confirm that you are looking at the correct progressed chart for the day on which you were born.

Illustrating the question : Ok Graham thanks here is the chart of a London born CELEB (same day and month), birth time unknown, so noon is ideal. I selected “Natal & Progressed chart” on astro.*** with 10% orb filter. (15% is an option, nod to Kannon) |
viviette | Then there are these tables in the .pdf section: |
viviette | technical question : You mentioned looking at Transits to Progressions.. I notice there is a “Natal, Transits & Progressions” chart option on the Astro site so I dived in. I can see transits in red on the chart wheel, but not sure how to apply the chart wheel transits “to” Progressions? I prefer seeing it as a table 😇 But the related .pdf tables only seem to show Natal to transits (not transits to progressions)

Kannon McAfee | I suggest you post the chart image and relevant tables for the question you just asked. It's better to have a visual reference point for explaining it. ------------------ Soul Stars Astrology by The Declinations Guy Expert birth chart rectification The birth chart is a starting place not a pre-determiner of fate. |

Ok good idea, here goes :
|
Kannon McAfee | I can't answer for Graham, but the only relevant overlap of transits and progressions that I see here is: - Transiting Saturn semi-square natal Jupiter (orb 01') with ... - Progressed Saturn trine natal Jupiter (orb 02') Normally, I only look for a transit and progressed planet that are mutually reinforcing of the same aspect. In other words, in the same degree area where the transiting planet gets a much wider orb and where the progressed planet is within 0°05' of exact aspect with a natal or other progressed factor (exceptions: prog Moon up to 1° orb, Sun half a degree or so). Otherwise, I don't consider transits to progressed factors. Secondary progressions are transits projected forward in day-for-a-year fashion, so it would be a bit like looking for transits to the transits. It starts to get a bit wonky at that point. Just look for where they are mutually reinforcing, especially conjunctions. ------------------ Soul Stars Astrology by The Declinations Guy Expert birth chart rectification The birth chart is a starting place not a pre-determiner of fate. |
Graham | You appear to have posted the same chart (and tables) of your chosen celebrity twice, vivette ... rather than the specific chart (and tables) relating to your opening post question (as suggested by Kannon). However ... the posted chart confirms that you are using astrodienst correctly to obtain the progressed chart. ... So, that part of the process needs no further explanation/discussion. Thus ... we can move to the next stage ... of explaining how to use the natal, progressed and transit charts after drawing them at astrodienst. For this, I use the following guide (which I copied from an unknown source on the internet some 25+ years ago) :- 1) Always use the Placidus House system for progressions and transits. 2) Use only major aspects (conjunction, opposition, trine, square, sextile and qcx). 3) Use a maximum orb of 1 degree. 4) Major life changing events will show as "multiple simultaneous major aspects" between the natal and progressed charts. ... One or two aspects will not have sufficient force to make a major life change. 5) At the time of the event, appropriate aspects will be exact. 6) Major events/turning points will register through the natal and progressed angles. ... Asc/Dsc = personal and physical ... MC/IC = Course of the life path, including career. 7) Major events ALWAYS involve aspects to the natal chart ... generally by progressions, reinforced by transits. THEN ... when looking at transits ... I use the following guide (from the same original/unknown source on the internet) :-
A) Natal planets show what is being affected. ... Transiting planets show how. B) Transits to progressed angles/planets show a situation already in progress that is now taking a different turn. ... Transits to natal angles/planets show a new situation about to commence. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ For the purpose of learning how to use the natal+progressions+transits though ... it would be best to identify a known past event relating to the chart owner (rather than attempting to predict a current or future event). In effect ... attempting to predict (unknown) future events using a process that we have not yet used to confirm (known) past events is the astrological equivalent of "trying to run before one has first learned to walk". |

Generally, the outer planets move too slowly to progress noticeably until some decades after being born ... so, (until then) astrologers/students use progressions for the faster moving personal planets - and transits for the slower moving outer planets. However ... those born in 1974 have now been around for some 46 years, which is long enough for some of the outer planets to have become a meaningful progressed influence on them/their lives. Basically though ... what we are looking for are natal planets that are being similutaneously aspected by BOTH progressions and transits. ... (Because "major events always involve aspects to the natal chart - generally by progressions, reinforced by transits".) |
