I've been asked to share this with you by a friend who thought it was a good idea. For ice packs, I freeze ocean water. I pour some into an ice tray and put plastic wrap over it. I also put some in plastic baggies and freeze it so it's flat. I use it on my wrist, so I put the baggie in a small bowl, so it won't be too large. When I want to use the ice, I put it in a washcloth and let it melt to release the healing qualities in the ocean water. I get a little wet, but it feels much nicer than a store bought ice pack.
For heat packs, I use sand instead of a heating pad. I bought a package of tube socks and filled them with sand from the beach. During the summer, I leave one outside and the sand gets hot enough to use. During the winter, I toss the sock in the microwave. It may lose some of the healing qualities from the microwave, but I'm sure it's still a lot better than an electric heating pad.
Does anyone else have any homeade remedies for stuff?
