The Vertex indicates those fated experiences that happen to us in life which take us by surprise, and lead us in an unexpected direction. It can be like a Dsc in that it shows how other people and external events can change our lives out of the blue, in ways we couldn't have anticipated. The Antivertex (always directly opposite the Vertex) indicates those fated experiences in life which think we want, hope and long for, or have a spooky sort of premonition about beforehand. It can be like an Asc in that it shows the issues we tend to focus on, and be keenly aware of, when contemplating and walking our fated path in life.
People who conjunct our Antivertex bring us things we have always wanted. Kind of like a wish fulfillment thing. If the overall synastry is not so positive they can also bring us some of the things we always feared would happen. In either case the Antivertex represents people who bring us something we have established preconceived notions about, and were already half expecting.
People who conjunct our Vertex bring us the unexpected and lead us in new directions. They have a knack for getting us to look at the world in a new way, or getting us to try things we never thought we'd do. People on our Vertex can give us what we didn't even realize we needed until we encountered them.
The crux of the Vertex/Antivertex Axis is seems to be about those fated experiences that bring us the crazy unexpected vs those fated experiences that bring us what we suspected or hoped for.
The North Node/South Node is a whole different polarity. The South Node is about our past, and ingrained habitual patterns of behavior. The North node is about our future growth, and where it is we need to work on our skills. The North Node/South Node Axis shows our inner imbalance. The South Node is where we feel comfortable, like we know just what to do, whereas the North Node is where we feel like a newbie who has so much to learn. People tend to live too much through their South Node, especially when younger, because it comes naturally to us, and we feel safe in that mode. As we grow older we supposedly learn to embrace the challenge of our North Node (which represents abilities we have yet to develop). This can be hard work be it feels very rewarding as if we are making progress towards our destiny somehow.
In synastry people on our South Node can give us a feeling a comfort and familiarity. As if they remind us of something that we can’t quite consciously remember. There is a feeling of a shared past. Relating to these people can feel a lot like reminiscing, even if you just met. You get each other very quickly. Without North Node connections this can eventually start to feel limiting. Once we’ve established a connection it can feel a bit like there’s no more room for growth. However the South Node can help us to feel very validated in our personal strengths and abilities. These people tend to have a good appreciation for our natural mode of operation. They recognize our innate skills and talent in situations symbolized by our South Node.
In synastry people on our North Node exhibit talents and abilities we ourselves know we are lacking in and need to cultivate. They challenge us to develop this side of ourselves, and have a tendency to pull us out of our comfort zone. They inspire us to grow in the direction which we’ve always struggled with in the past. Conjunctions to the North Node are challenging but also exciting. We learn so much from our association with these people. Even if the synastry is overall negative we will begrudgingly admire some of their skills. In positive synastry these people make us feel as if we are growing towards our future. The longer we are with them, and the more we learn to overcome with our weaknesses, the more they tend to fill us with a feeling of joyful hope and accomplishment.
Which is more important the Vertex Axis or the Nodal Axis? The answer to me is that they are both important but in different ways. It’s like asking whether the Sun or Moon is more important. There is no definitive answer. Both the Vertex Axis and the Nodal Axis can bring profound experiences when conjunctions occur at either end of it. Which Axis is more important is a subjective thing to me.
The Vertex Axis is about expected Vs unexpected fateful events.
The Nodal Axis about our connection to the past Vs our growth into the future.
Both are important in different ways.
