I didn't know there were so many JD fans here! yeah! I listen to him every day and just love the feeling I get. I know this was a major spiritual person in a very serious way. Thank you all so much for posting those lyrics! Of course him being my sun/moon inverse, I would have loved to meet him. Just go for a walk in the hills and talk . I bet he was a very wise and kind man!They keep running a PBS special about him and i always seem to hit the right time to see him. I just love the guy. I love to see the paradox of stength and gentleness in people and it definitely is there with him! Want to hear a cool synchronicity? I was shaving about a month ago and humming one of John's song's and on the way to the bathroom I must have knocked my book bag over and my cd player was in it.So anyway, I'm humming "Rocky Mountain High" or something and then I hear a very faint sound of JD singing. I was freaked out and then became aware that the cd player in my bag was somehow on.When I walked into the bathroom I must have accidentally turned it on when I bumped the bag. Then (and I know your not going to believe me because it sounds too perfect)I swear I looked on the television and the PBS special about him had just started !?!?!?! How's that for a synch!!!!!!!Thanks all you guys for answering my thread! And posting thoise beautiful songs. And special thanks to Lotus for posting so many!!!! I have a feeling your a very beautiful person!!!! Thanks everyone.Oh yah, one last thing and this is strange. I can't read anyone's repsonse to any of the posts I made yesterday except this one:-0I despise this library computer or the system they use. I doubt it's LL. You guys can probably read the responses right? Who knows maybe it's JD wanting a little bit of the spotlight again!!!! LOLThank you all again so much. She was working in a restaurant.One day she got a call at the restaurant and the voice on the phone said he wanted to make dinner reservations and gave his name as John Denver. She's like " The singer? Yeah right, sure you are " because this restaurant did not have celebrities as it's normal clientele. He laughed and swore to her he was John Denver the singer and said " if you make the reservations I will be there I promise. Then he asked her name." Sure enough he showed and he walked up to the desk with a smile and asked, " Are you Dani?" She was dumbfounded. He laughed and said, " See I told you I was John Denver." She said she could hardly speak and blurted out something dumb like what a big fan of his she was. She couldn't believe that he didn't get angry with her on the phone for not believing him but instead just laughed and joked about it and then walked in and gave her that big grin of his and joked with her some more. AcousticGodHe was a cool guy. I'm glad you posted that video of The Eagle and The Hawk, Mirandee (though I didn't really buy the guy singing along). I wish that song was two or three times as long. That song gets me pumped.Here's a video that plays two versions of it back to back: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZbCqTFOxIIE The video of Annie's Song was so distracting for me, only because I couldn't stop watching his fingers. John Denver - Rocky Mountain High Lyrics
He was born in the summer of his twentyseverth year
coming home to a place he'd never been before.He left yesterday behind him
you might say he was born again
you might say he found a key to ev'ry door.
When he first came to the mountains his life was away
on the road and hangin' by a song.But the string's already broken and he doesn't really care
it keeps changin' fast and it don't last for long.
But the Colorado Rocky Mountain high
I've seen it rainin' fire in the sky.The shadow from the starlightis softer than a lullaby.Rocky mountain high in Colorado.Rocky mountain high in Colorado.
He climbed cathedral mountains
he saw silver clouds below
he saw everything as far as you can see.And they saythat he got crazy onceand he tried to touch the sun
and he lost a friend but kept his memory.
Now he walks in quiet solitude
the forests and the streamsseeking grace in every step he takes.His sight has turned insidehimself to try and understandthe serenity of a clear blue mountain lake.
And the Colorado Rocky Mountain high
I've seen it rainin' fire in the sky.Talk to God and listen to the casual reply.Rocky mountain high in Colorado.Rocky mountain high in Colorado.
Now his life is full of wonder
but his heart still knows some fearof a simple thing he cannot comprehend.Why they try to tear the mountainsdown to bring in a couple more
more peoplemore scars upon the land.
I've seen it rainin' fire in the sky.He know he'd be a poorer manif he never saw an eagle fly.Rocky mountain high in Colorado.Rocky mountain high in Colorado.
If I had the time I'd post the lyrics to The Eagle and The Hawk. Lotta power in that song.

I am the eagle, I live in high countryIn rocky cathedrals that reach to the skyI am the hawk and there’s blood on my feathersBut time is still turning they soon will be dryAnd all of those who see me, all who believe in meShare in the freedom I feel when I fly
Come dance with the west wind and touch on the mountain topsSail o’er the canyons and up to the starsAnd reach for the heavens and hope for the futureAnd all that we can be and not what we are

It’s by far the hardest thing I’ve ever doneTo be so in love with you and so alone
Follow me where I go what I do and who I knowMake it part of you to be a part of meFollow me up and down all the way and all aroundTake my hand and say you’ll follow me
It’s long been on my mindYou know it’s been a long, long timeI’ve tried to find the way that I can make you understandThe way I feel about you and just how much I need youTo be there where I can talk to youWhen there’s no one else around
You see I’d like to share my life with youAnd show you things I’ve seenPlaces that I’m going to places where I’ve beenTo have you there beside me and never be aloneAnd all the time that you’re with meWe will be at home
Follow me where I go what I do and who I knowMake it part of you to be a part of meFollow me up and down all the wayTake my hand and I will follow you

John Denver - Rhymes & Reasons Lyrics
This song appears on eleven albums, and was first released on the rhymes andreasons album, then this is john denver, the rocky mountain collection, thecountry roads collection, and reflectionsHas been rerecorded on the very best of john denver (double cd), john denver(italian), country classics and greatest hits vol 1 albums. live versions alsoappear on an evening with john denverHe wildlife concert albums.
So you speak to me of sadnessAnd the coming of the winterFear that is within you nowIt seems to never endAnd the dreams that have escaped youAnd the hope that you’ve forgottenYou tell me that you need me nowYou want to be my friend
And you wonder where we’re goingWhere’s the rhyme and where’s the reasonAnd it’s you cannot acceptIt is here we must beginTo seek the wisdom of the childrenAnd the graceful way of flowers in the wind
For the children and the flowersAre my sisters and my brothersTheir laughter and their lovelinessCould clear a cloudy day
Like the music of the mountainsAnd the colours of the rainbowThey’re a promise of the futureAnd a blessing for todayThough the cities start to crumbleAnd the towers fall around usThe sun is slowly fadingAnd it’s colder than the sea
It is written from the desertTo the mountains they shall lead usBy the hand and by the heartThey will comfort you and meIn their innocence and trustingThey will teach us to be free
And the song that I am singingIs a prayer to non believersCome and stand beside usWe can find a better way
You fill up my sensesLike a night in the forestLike the mountains in springtimeLike a walk in the rainLike a storm in the desertLike a sleepy blue oceanYou fill up my sensesCome fill me again
Come let me love youLet me give my life to youLet me drown in your laughterLet me die in your armsLet me lay down beside youLet me always be with youCome let me love youCome love me again
Let me give my life to youCome let me love youCome love me again
Ive been lately thinkingAbout my lifes timeAll the things Ive doneAnd how its beenAnd I cant help believingIn my own mindI know Im gonna hate to see it end
Ive seen a lot of sunshineSlept out in the rainSpent a night or two all on my ownIve known my ladys pleasuresHad myself some friendsAnd spent a time or two in my own home
And I have to say it nowIts been a good life all in allIts really fineTo have a chance to hang aroundAnd lie there by the fireAnd watch the evening tireWhile all my friends and my old ladySit and pass the pipe around
And talk of poems and prayers and promisesAnd things that we believe inHow sweet it is to love someoneHow right it is to careHow long its been since yesterdayAnd what about tomorrowAnd ehat about our dreamsAnd all the memories we share
The days they pass so quickly nowNights are seldom longAnd time around me whispers when its coldThe changes somehow frighten meStill I have to smileIt turns me on to think of growing oldFor though my lifes been good to meTheres still so much to doSo many things my mind has never knownId like to raise a familyId like to sail awayAnd dance across the mountains on the moon
I have to say it nowIts been a good life all in allIts really fineTo have the chance to hang aroundAnd lie there by the fireAnd watch the evening tireWhile all my friends and my old ladySit and pass the pipe around
And talk of poems and prayers and promisesAnd things that we believe inHow sweet it is to love someoneHow right it is to careHow long its been since yesterdayWhat about tomorrowWhat about our dreamsAnd all the memories we share
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Boy from the Country
Because he called the forest brotherBecause he called the earth his motherThey drove him out into the rainSome people even said the boy from the country was insane
Because he spoke with fish in the creekHe tried to tell us that the animals could speakWho knows, perhaps they doHow do you know they dontJust because theyve never spoken to you
Boy from the country, he left his home when he was youngBoy from the country, he loves the sun
He tried to tell us that we should love the landWe turned our heads and laughedAnd we did not understandSometimes I think that the boy from the countryIs the only one who seesBecause the boy from the countryDoesnt want to see the forest for the trees
Can't think of the name of this song. I've always played it over and over. Am at work and can only put down part of the lyrics...
I am an Eagle I live in high placesIn rocky cathedrals that reach to the sky....
And, of course, Jet Plane for my best friend the stewardess.
My favorite song of his is Sunshine http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6gAW2giYMqA
Another favorite is Country Roads. I get homesick listening to this song and I am not even from West Va. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DC8nDdPM_Qk
------------------When you're reaching out with the slightest doubtThen it's time to shout your faith in love.
Listening to these songs made for a very pleasant day
Farewell Andromeda (Welcome to My Morning)
Welcome to my morningWelcome to my dayIm the one responsibleI made it just this wayTo make myself some picturesSee what they might bringI think I made it perfectlyI wouldnt change a thing
Welcome to my happinessYou know it makes me smileAnd it pleases me to have you hereFor just a little whileWhile we open up the spacesTry to break some chainsAnd if the truth is toldThey will never come again
Welcome to my eveningThe closing of the dayI could try a million timesNever find a better wayTo tell you that I love youAnd all the songs I playAre to thank you for allowing meInside this lovely day
Welcome to my morningWelcome to my dayYes, Im the one responsibleI made it just this wayTo make myself some picturesAnd see what they might bringI think I made it perfectlyI wouldnt change a thing
Samsara"samsara is nirvana"
Years ago when she was younger she had moved to Los Angeles to pursue a singing career. She was working in a restaurant.
One day she got a call at the restaurant and the voice on the phone said he wanted to make dinner reservations and gave his name as John Denver. She's like " The singer? Yeah right, sure you are " because this restaurant did not have celebrities as it's normal clientele. He laughed and swore to her he was John Denver the singer and said " if you make the reservations I will be there I promise. Then he asked her name." Sure enough he showed and he walked up to the desk with a smile and asked, " Are you Dani?" She was dumbfounded. He laughed and said, " See I told you I was John Denver." She said she could hardly speak and blurted out something dumb like what a big fan of his she was.
She couldn't believe that he didn't get angry with her on the phone for not believing him but instead just laughed and joked about it and then walked in and gave her that big grin of his and joked with her some more.
I'm glad you posted that video of The Eagle and The Hawk, Mirandee (though I didn't really buy the guy singing along). I wish that song was two or three times as long. That song gets me pumped.
Here's a video that plays two versions of it back to back: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZbCqTFOxIIE
The video of Annie's Song was so distracting for me, only because I couldn't stop watching his fingers. He uses an alternate tuning for his lowest string. He dropped it a whole note.
Grandma's Feather Bed
When I was a little bitty boyJust up off-a floorWe used to go down to Grandma's houseEvery month end or soWe had chicken pie and country hamAnd homemade butter on the breadBut the best darn thing about Grandma's houseWas her great big feather bed
It was nine feet high and six feet wideSoft as a downy chickIt was made from the feathers of forty 'leven geeseTook a whole bolt of cloth for the tickIt'd hold eight kids, four hound dogsAnd a piggy we stole from the shedWe didn't get much sleep but we had a lot of funOn Grandma's feather bed
After the supper we'd sit around the fireThe old folks'd spit and chewPa would talk about the farm and the warAnd Granny'd sing a ballad or twoI'd sit and listen and watch the fireTill the cobwebs filled my headNext thing I knew Id wake up in the morningIn the middle of the old feather bed
It was nine feet high and six feet wideSoft as a downy chickIt was made from the feathers of forty'leven geeseTook a whole bolt of cloth for the tickIt'd hold eight kids, four hound dogsAnd a piggy we stole from the shedWe didn't get much sleep but we had a lot of funOn Grandma's feather bed
Well I love my Ma, an' I love my PaLove Granny and Grandpa tooBeen fishing with my uncle, I wrestled with my cousinI even kissed Aunt Lou ooohBut if ever had to make a choiceI guess it ought to be saidThat I'd trade them all plus the gal down the roadFor Grandma's feather bed
