Does anyone here like John Denver? I never really used to until I got a greatest hits album. Now, I really think he's great! He's got such a strong, pure voice. I think he was a genuinely spiritual person.He was a Cap/ moon in pisces:-)and I'm a pisces /moon in cap so I love the guy!!!!
Anyway just wanted to know what the board felt about JD!

John Denver
Words by John Denver; Music by John
Denver, Mike Taylor and Dick Kniss

Sunshine on my shoulders makes me
happy
Sunshine in my eyes can make me cry
Sunshine on the water looks so
lovely
Sunshine almost always makes me high

If I had a day that I
could give you
I'd give to you the day just like today
If I had a song
that I could sing for you
I'd sing a song to make you feel this
way

Sunshine on my shoulders makes me happy
Sunshine in my eyes can
make me cry
Sunshine on the water looks so lovely
Sunshine almost always
makes me high

If I had a tale that I could tell you
I'd tell a tale
sure to make you smile
If I had a wish that I could wish for you
I'd make
a wish for sunshine for all the while

Sunshine on my shoulders makes me
happy
Sunshine in my eyes can make me cry
Sunshine on the water looks so
lovely
Sunshine almost all the time makes me
high
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I LOve John Denver!
i LOVE john denver.
I can sing and play "leaving on a jet plane" on guitar. Badly. But it's still a beautiful song even out of my mangled vocal chords.
I listen to him, all the time, hehe
John Denver - Rocky Mountain High Lyrics
He was born in the summer of his twentyseverth year
coming home to a place he'd never been before.
He left yesterday behind him
you might say he was born again
you might say he found a key to ev'ry door.
When he first came to the mountains his life was away
on the road and hangin' by a song.
But the string's already broken and he doesn't really care
it keeps changin' fast and it don't last for long.
But the Colorado Rocky Mountain high
I've seen it rainin' fire in the sky.
The shadow from the starlight
is softer than a lullaby.
Rocky mountain high in Colorado.
Rocky mountain high in Colorado.
He climbed cathedral mountains
he saw silver clouds below
he saw everything as far as you can see.
And they say
that he got crazy once
and he tried to touch the sun
and he lost a friend but kept his memory.
Now he walks in quiet solitude
the forests and the streams
seeking grace in every step he takes.
His sight has turned inside
himself to try and understand
the serenity of a clear blue mountain lake.
And the Colorado Rocky Mountain high
I've seen it rainin' fire in the sky.
Talk to God and listen to the casual reply.
Rocky mountain high in Colorado.
Rocky mountain high in Colorado.
Now his life is full of wonder
but his heart still knows some fear
of a simple thing he cannot comprehend.
Why they try to tear the mountains
down to bring in a couple more
more people
more scars upon the land.
And the Colorado Rocky Mountain high
I've seen it rainin' fire in the sky.
He know he'd be a poorer man
if he never saw an eagle fly.
Rocky mountain high in Colorado.
Rocky mountain high in Colorado.
If I had the time I'd post the lyrics to The Eagle and The Hawk. Lotta power in that song.
I am the eagle, I live in high country
In rocky cathedrals that reach to the sky
But time is still turning they soon will be dry
And all of those who see me, all who believe in me
Share in the freedom I feel when I fly
Come dance with the west wind and touch on the mountain tops
Sail o’er the canyons and up to the stars
And reach for the heavens and hope for the future
And all that we can be and not what we are
My father-in-law loved John Denver. We listen to "Country Roads" at his Funeral. He was Born and raised in West Virginia.
Almost heaven West Virgina blue rich mountain,tended to old river.
Live is older than, older than the creek, younger than the mountians,
brolling like the breeze.
Country roads take me home to the place I belong West Virginia
moutian mama, take me home Country roads.
All my memoires, I get around her, by this lady, stranged to blue water.
Darking dusk see, paint in all this sky, mister taste the Moonshine,teardrods
in my eyes,
Country roads take me home to the place, I belong West Virginia
moutian mama, take me home Country roads.
I hear her voice in the morning are she calle´s me,radio the minds me on my
hold far away.Driving down the road, I feel the feeling that I sured me,oh
yesterday, yesterday
Country roads take me home to the place I belong West Virginia
moutian mama, take me home Country roads.
Country roads take me home to the place I belong West Virginia
moutian mama, take me home Country roads.Take me home now Country roads.Take me
home now Country roads.
Wow, JD got some responses!!!! I'm sorry that I can't reply to them because this pathetic computer won't show me the posts people made!!Am I to be eternally frustrated!!!!!!!!!!
Anyway, I really like John Denver and his music has a very soothing effect on me. My fav JD song is "Looking for Space." it's such a lovley soaring song. I deeply identify with the lyrics.It sounds a lot like me really!
Aren't these lovely lyrics!
On the road of experience,
I'm trying to find my own way,
Sometimes I wish that I could fly away,
When I think I'm moving suddenly thing
stand still,
I'm afraid cause I think they always
will,
And I'm looking for space ,
And to find out who I am,
And I'm looking to know and
Understand,
It's a sweet,sweet dream
Sometimes I'm almost there,
Sometimes I fly like an eagle,
Sometimes I'm deep in despair,
All alone in the universe,
Sometimes that's how it seems,
I get lost in the sadness and
The screams,
Then I look in the center,
Suddenly everything's clear,
I find myself in the sunshine and my
dreams,
And I'm looking for space,
And to find out who I am,
And I'm looking to know and underdtand,
It's a sweet sweet dream,
Sometimes I'm almost there,
Sometimes I fly like an eagle,
Sometimes I'm deep in despair,
On the road of experience,
Join in the living day,
If there's an answer ,
It's just that it's just that way,
Whne your looking for space and to find
out who you are,
When your looking to try to reach the
stars,
It's a sweet, sweet dream,
Sometimes I'm almost there,
Sometimes I fly like an eagle,
Sometimes I'm deep in despair,
Sometimes I fly like an eagle,
I go flying high,
I listen to this song everyday. It's kind of my theme song. Thanks John!!!!
John Denver - Follow Me Lyrics
This song appears on eleven albums, and was first released on the take me to
tomorrow album and take me home, country roads & other hits, this is john
denver, the very best of john denver (d
Cd), the country roads collection and the rocky mountain collection albums, and
has also been rerecorded on the greatest hits vol 1, favourites, john denver
(italian) country classics and the v
Of america albums.
It’s by far the hardest thing I’ve ever done
To be so in love with you and so alone
Follow me where I go what I do and who I know
Make it part of you to be a part of me
Follow me up and down all the way and all around
Take my hand and say you’ll follow me
It’s long been on my mind
You know it’s been a long, long time
I’ve tried to find the way that I can make you understand
The way I feel about you and just how much I need you
To be there where I can talk to you
When there’s no one else around
Follow me where I go what I do and who I know
Make it part of you to be a part of me
Follow me up and down all the way and all around
Take my hand and say you’ll follow me
You see I’d like to share my life with you
And show you things I’ve seen
Places that I’m going to places where I’ve been
To have you there beside me and never be alone
And all the time that you’re with me
We will be at home
Follow me where I go what I do and who I know
Make it part of you to be a part of me
Follow me up and down all the way
Take my hand and I will follow you
John Denver - Rhymes & Reasons Lyrics
This song appears on eleven albums, and was first released on the rhymes and
reasons album, then this is john denver, the rocky mountain collection, the
country roads collection, and reflections
Has been rerecorded on the very best of john denver (double cd), john denver
(italian), country classics and greatest hits vol 1 albums. live versions also
appear on an evening with john denver
He wildlife concert albums.
So you speak to me of sadness
And the coming of the winter
Fear that is within you now
It seems to never end
And the dreams that have escaped you
And the hope that you’ve forgotten
You tell me that you need me now
You want to be my friend
And you wonder where we’re going
Where’s the rhyme and where’s the reason
And it’s you cannot accept
It is here we must begin
To seek the wisdom of the children
And the graceful way of flowers in the wind
For the children and the flowers
Are my sisters and my brothers
Their laughter and their loveliness
Could clear a cloudy day
Like the music of the mountains
And the colours of the rainbow
They’re a promise of the future
And a blessing for today
Though the cities start to crumble
And the towers fall around us
The sun is slowly fading
And it’s colder than the sea
It is written from the desert
To the mountains they shall lead us
By the hand and by the heart
They will comfort you and me
In their innocence and trusting
They will teach us to be free
For the children and the flowers
Are my sisters and my brothers
Their laughter and their loveliness
Could clear a cloudy day
And the song that I am singing
Is a prayer to non believers
Come and stand beside us
We can find a better way
Annie's Song
You fill up my senses
Like a night in the forest
Like the mountains in springtime
Like a walk in the rain
Like a storm in the desert
Like a sleepy blue ocean
You fill up my senses
Come fill me again
Come let me love you
Let me give my life to you
Let me drown in your laughter
Let me die in your arms
Let me lay down beside you
Let me always be with you
Come let me love you
Come love me again
Let me give my life to you
Come let me love you
Come love me again
You fill up my senses
Like a night in the forest
Like the mountains in springtime
Like a walk in the rain
Like a storm in the desert
Like a sleepy blue ocean
You fill up my senses
Come fill me again
Poems, Prayers and Promises
Ive been lately thinking
About my lifes time
All the things Ive done
And how its been
And I cant help believing
In my own mind
I know Im gonna hate to see it end
Ive seen a lot of sunshine
Slept out in the rain
Spent a night or two all on my own
Ive known my ladys pleasures
Had myself some friends
And spent a time or two in my own home
And I have to say it now
Its been a good life all in all
Its really fine
To have a chance to hang around
And lie there by the fire
And watch the evening tire
While all my friends and my old lady
Sit and pass the pipe around
And talk of poems and prayers and promises
And things that we believe in
How sweet it is to love someone
How right it is to care
How long its been since yesterday
And what about tomorrow
And ehat about our dreams
And all the memories we share
The days they pass so quickly now
Nights are seldom long
And time around me whispers when its cold
The changes somehow frighten me
Still I have to smile
It turns me on to think of growing old
For though my lifes been good to me
Theres still so much to do
So many things my mind has never known
Id like to raise a family
Id like to sail away
And dance across the mountains on the moon
I have to say it now
Its been a good life all in all
Its really fine
To have the chance to hang around
And lie there by the fire
And watch the evening tire
While all my friends and my old lady
Sit and pass the pipe around
And talk of poems and prayers and promises
And things that we believe in
How sweet it is to love someone
How right it is to care
How long its been since yesterday
What about tomorrow
What about our dreams
And all the memories we share
Boy from the Country
Because he called the forest brother
Because he called the earth his mother
They drove him out into the rain
Some people even said the boy from the country was insane
Because he spoke with fish in the creek
He tried to tell us that the animals could speak
Who knows, perhaps they do
How do you know they dont
Just because theyve never spoken to you
Boy from the country, he left his home when he was young
Boy from the country, he loves the sun
He tried to tell us that we should love the land
We turned our heads and laughed
And we did not understand
Sometimes I think that the boy from the country
Is the only one who sees
Because the boy from the country
Doesnt want to see the forest for the trees
Boy from the country, he left his home when he was young
Boy from the country, he loves the sun
I just found out that my program Kepler has his chart. He also has Saturn in the 1st like me as well as an Aqua MC. His Sun is in the 7th unlike mine (though his Sun is 3 degrees after mine). His Venus is exactly conjunct my 27 degree Mars in Scorpio.
There's that thread about the 5th degree showing sex-appeal... he's got Mars conjunct Uranus at 5 degrees Gemini in the 12th.
Jupiter in Leo in the 3rd. NN conjunct Pluto in Leo in the 2nd.
Another fan here.
Can't think of the name of this song. I've always played it over and over.
Am at work and can only put down part of the lyrics...
I am an Eagle I live in high places
In rocky cathedrals that reach to
the sky....
And, of course, Jet Plane for my best friend the stewardess.
This one always nudges me to mindfulness
Farewell Andromeda (Welcome to My Morning)
Welcome to my morning
Welcome to my day
Im the one responsible
I made it just this way
To make myself some pictures
See what they might bring
I think I made it perfectly
I wouldnt change a thing
Welcome to my happiness
You know it makes me smile
And it pleases me to have you here
For just a little while
While we open up the spaces
Try to break some chains
And if the truth is told
They will never come again
Welcome to my evening
The closing of the day
I could try a million times
Never find a better way
To tell you that I love you
And all the songs I play
Are to thank you for allowing me
Inside this lovely day
Welcome to my morning
Welcome to my day
Yes, Im the one responsible
I made it just this way
To make myself some pictures
And see what they might bring
I think I made it perfectly
I wouldnt change a thing
Wow, you guys are so cool!!!!!!!!!!! I didn't know there were so many JD fans here! yeah! I listen to him every day and just love the feeling I get. I know this was a major spiritual person in a very serious way.
Thank you all so much for posting those lyrics!
Of course him being my sun/moon inverse, I would have loved to meet him. Just go for a walk in the hills and talk . I bet he was a very wise and kind man!
They keep running a PBS special about him and i always seem to hit the right time to see him. I just love the guy.
I love to see the paradox of stength and gentleness in people and it definitely is there with him!
Want to hear a cool synchronicity? I was shaving about a month ago and humming one of John's song's and on the way to the bathroom I must have knocked my book bag over and my cd player was in it.So anyway, I'm humming "Rocky Mountain High" or something and then I hear a very faint sound of JD singing. I was freaked out and then became aware that the cd player in my bag was somehow on.When I walked into the bathroom I must have accidentally turned it on when I bumped the bag.
Then (and I know your not going to believe me because it sounds too perfect)I swear I looked on the television and the PBS special about him had just started !?!?!?! How's that for a synch!!!!!!!
Thanks all you guys for answering my thread! And posting thoise beautiful songs. And special thanks to Lotus for posting so many!!!! I have a feeling your a very beautiful person!!!! Thanks everyone.
Oh yah, one last thing and this is strange. I can't read anyone's repsonse to any of the posts I made yesterday except this one:-0
I despise this library computer or the system they use. I doubt it's LL. You guys can probably read the responses right?
Who knows maybe it's JD wanting a little bit of the spotlight again!!!! LOL
Thank you all again so much. You made me happy today and that's saying a lot . if you knew what today was like ,you'd know you did a good deed!
Please keep the thread going! let's post stuff about John and lyrics and how he inspire's you or anything!
Love you all!!!!!!!
A friend of mine met John Denver in person.
Years ago when she was younger she had moved to Los Angeles to pursue a singing career. She was working in a restaurant.
One day she got a call at the restaurant and the voice on the phone said he wanted to make dinner reservations and gave his name as John Denver. She's like " The singer? Yeah right, sure you are " because this restaurant did not have celebrities as it's normal clientele. He laughed and swore to her he was John Denver the singer and said " if you make the reservations I will be there I promise. Then he asked her name." Sure enough he showed and he walked up to the desk with a smile and asked, " Are you Dani?" She was dumbfounded. He laughed and said, " See I told you I was John Denver." She said she could hardly speak and blurted out something dumb like what a big fan of his she was.
She couldn't believe that he didn't get angry with her on the phone for not believing him but instead just laughed and joked about it and then walked in and gave her that big grin of his and joked with her some more.
He was a cool guy.
I'm glad you posted that video of The Eagle and The Hawk, Mirandee (though I didn't really buy the guy singing along). I wish that song was two or three times as long. That song gets me pumped.
Here's a video that plays two versions of it back to back: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZbCqTFOxIIE
The video of Annie's Song was so distracting for me, only because I couldn't stop watching his fingers. He uses an alternate tuning for his lowest string. He dropped it a whole note.
Samsara, Thanks!
here's one that always makes me smile
Grandma's Feather Bed
When I was a little bitty boy
Just up off-a floor
We used to go down to Grandma's house
Every month end or so
We had chicken pie and country ham
And homemade butter on the bread
But the best darn thing about Grandma's house
Was her great big feather bed
It was nine feet high and six feet wide
Soft as a downy chick
It was made from the feathers of forty 'leven geese
Took a whole bolt of cloth for the tick
It'd hold eight kids, four hound dogs
And a piggy we stole from the shed
We didn't get much sleep but we had a lot of fun
On Grandma's feather bed
After the supper we'd sit around the fire
The old folks'd spit and chew
Pa would talk about the farm and the war
And Granny'd sing a ballad or two
I'd sit and listen and watch the fire
Till the cobwebs filled my head
Next thing I knew Id wake up in the morning
In the middle of the old feather bed
It was nine feet high and six feet wide
Soft as a downy chick
It was made from the feathers of forty'leven geese
Took a whole bolt of cloth for the tick
It'd hold eight kids, four hound dogs
And a piggy we stole from the shed
We didn't get much sleep but we had a lot of fun
On Grandma's feather bed
Well I love my Ma, an' I love my Pa
Love Granny and Grandpa too
Been fishing with my uncle, I wrestled with my cousin
I even kissed Aunt Lou oooh
But if ever had to make a choice
I guess it ought to be said
That I'd trade them all plus the gal down the road
For Grandma's feather bed
It was nine feet high and six feet wide
Soft as a downy chick
It was made from the feathers of forty'leven geese
Took a whole bolt of cloth for the tick
It'd hold eight kids, four hound dogs
And a piggy we stole from the shed
We didn't get much sleep but we had a lot of fun
On Grandma's feather bed
