Hmm...it is only in recent years that neuroscientists have begun accepting the idea of "Neuronal Plasticity" that the brain is not hard-wired but that neural pathways are modified over time and change according to signals.
That is why meditation is such an integral part of Eastern spirituality. Meditation calms the mind and the body and the focusing and concentration alter the blood flow, creating newer pathways and changes in the physiology as a direct result of altered brain signals.
The "normal" human blood pressure is 120/80 mm of mercury and I once shocked my Physiology Professor when she measured mine at 72/60 without any signs of hypotension like ashen skin, loss of consciousness etc.
I am intrigued by the concept of a hive mind and I perceive it to be a reality in our society although sociologists use the term "mob mentality"...semantical differences only.
The tendency to conform, to look for the familiar and hold onto it even when faced by compelling evidence to the contrary is a product of such a collective unconscious, allowing humans to be herded like sheep by those in power who understand the mechanics of the mind.
I would like to present an example from everyday life on this. The practice of "hazing" or "ragging" and other similar "rites of passage" is designed to invoke the hive mind in a person. Psychologists call it a Stockholm Syndrome but I believe it to be the hive mind at work.

Your post on MKULTRA and the creation of assassins ties into this as well: painful and psychologically damaging experiences meant to induce a state of suggestibility.
Hmm...my mind is munching
