** Retrograde (Rx) Saturn in the natal chart is still Saturn, however modified in its action. It is still the planet of structure, organization, discipline, and perseverance. The function of the Rx Saturn will be expressed as other than expected. Everyone has Saturn somewhere in the natal horoscope. The person with a Rx Saturn has a built-in maturity and discipline to help him handle any of the Saturn-like problems or situations that Life may bring. **

that was at top o' list at a google search using .. 'retrograde saturn in the natal chart'
i did have a cool book on the subject .. can't remember though what the explanation was ..

EatBooks,

How does it feel? Not sure.

I'm a Capricorn, for one, so is it distinguishable?

This interp seems about right for me:

Saturn Retrograde- Persons with Saturn Retrograde in their birth charts do not like to be known in public (except my 5th house Moon), they find security in intellectuals or spirituals. They easily yield to external influences. They appear shy, uneasy, introvert, lacking in self assertion or attempt to cover their lapse with the pretext of arrogance. They feel alone, isolated, separated from their friends and are seldom understood and very reserved.

I don't really feel alone anymore. I'm somewhat reserved, but not altogether obviously. I think there may be other compensations for it as well.

HD,

I got the date here: http://www.cafeastrology.com/retrogrades.html

EDIT: One line looked improper in light of posts that came in while I was typing. I didn't intend for the editted out sentence to look that way (for anyone who saw it). I was only responding to HD's first post, and not the subsequent one.

I have Saturn in Taurus in my 8th house- Retrograde.

There are various interpretations on that planetary position. I have a book on it, but it's at home.

I did find the following information online:

Retrograde (Rx) Saturn in the natal chart is still Saturn, however modified in its action.

A retrograde Saturn represents things in your life that have been neglected, denied or postponed. Often, these latter point to past lives, but too, they can apply to your childhood and early adulthood. As you grow older and more mature, you begin to get a different perspective on your duties and responsibilities. Many with Saturn retrograde are the proverbial "workaholics" and will need to incorporate some quiet time and time for recreation and relaxation into their lives. Sometimes, this configuration foretells of a child or teen who is neglected by his or her parents, or guardian. As a child, you may have only "felt" neglected, which somehow stifled your emotions or made it difficult for you to express yourself on an emotional level. Later in life. If not checked and set on the right track, you could find it difficult to be emotionally honest in your most important relationships. In order not to become crystallized in your thinking or habits, you will need to be open minded in life. You will need to investigate, research and try out new avenues of expression and philosophic thought. Oddly, Saturn retrograde individuals have the potential to be great teachers, because they have experienced so much of life at it's many and diverse levels. While you may not actually enter the teaching profession per se, notice how often you are thrown into situations as advisor, counselor or teacher to others, throughout your life. Shoulder your responsibilities in your mature years, and you will find that your rewards and gratification will reach beyond expectation. Neglect your duties and the opposite will be true. Do not avoid your feelings. Examine and analyze them. Become comfortable with your emotions and you will find less limitations where your relationships and experiences are concerned.

Great links everyone!

Pidaua, that's interesting about the retrograde/neglect thing. I have saturn retrograde in scorpio in the 4th house (nasty, eh?!) and I, along with my sister, were terribly neglected by our parents. (My sister has saturn retrograde in sagittarius in her 2nd house). We both find this hard to deal with a lot of the time, but we have each other to lean on which is helpful, as we have a good bond.
Weirdly, both my parents have evrything direct, except my mum's saturn, which is stationary. Both of their parents were very involved for the most part, and have also been frustrated with our parents selfishness.

I hope this hasn't been the case for everyone with saturn retrograde!!!

Hi Taurus / Gemini,

I am sorry about your childhood.

I wasn't neglected but I was taught to control my emotions. My father (Capricorn) is a former Soldier and is retired Law Enforcement. He taught us early on not to show our fear or pain- to keep going so that no one would see the vulnerabilities. My mother (Cancer) is the opposite- very emotional but not very nurturing.

As it turned out my brother (a fellow Archer like me) has his Sun in the 10th house and I have mine in the 4th. He has a Scorp Moon and I have an Aries moon (both indicative of the mother not being one to nurture).

Luckily my Father was not only strong, but he was also able to show his love much easier than my mother. I also had a Leo grandmother (Capricorn Moon) that lived with us and was more of a mother to me than my own mother. When my GM died, I was devastatd. She was the one that took care of us when we were sick because mom would totally gross out and wouldnt't be of any help.

I took after my grandmother- and have played nurse to everything from stray animals to sick friends and relatives. LOL....

I had my wisdom teeth taken out last Thursday. I hope its good news for my jaw?! Maybe I can harness the energy of the retrograde and direct it to its healing.

Don't be sorry about my childhood, honestly. It's a good thing in a way, because my sister and I are learning to be stronger because of it! I don't hate my parents - there are very many good things about them if you know them socially. They were definately not cut out to be parents though, and I think they realised that very early on and gave up. I can strongly say, that I would never do that to my own son - I just have to make sure I don't over-compensate in the other direction now!!!

That's again interesting what you said about the moon signs!!! My sister has a scorpio moon (which I've heard can sometimes result in having a resentful mother) and I have an aquarius moon, which I've read is indicative of an eccentric, unstable and sometimes neglectful mother. Apparently not always, but sometimes. It's certainly true in my case.

It must have been devastating to lose your GM when she was your nurturer. It's lovely that you've taken after her. My father's mother is my nurturer and I will be inconsolable the day I lose her. She spoils me rotten, even now I am an adult! Infact, I'm going to see her tomorrow and I can't wait!!! I've taken after her a lot myself - generous to a bloody fault!!!

As well as saturn, I also have my natal mars, jupiter, uranus, neptune and pluto in retrograde, so I'm probably screwed any which way!!!

oooooo ... just realised my natal saturn is retrograde ..
i don't know if this is correct .. but .. from the now lost book .. i seem to remember something about ..
'not having faith in one's own creations' .. .. i have a hunch that it may have something to do with saturn ..
only 'cause .. when i read it .. i could really indentify with it .. sort of stuck in memory ..

this was the book :
.. " Retrograde Planets - Traversing the Inner Landscape " .. by Erin Sullivan .."

I have often seen Saturn rx being interpreted as a missing father figure in the person's life, esp when in the lower part of the chart.
By missing they mean missing not only in the physical sense but in the spiritual or emotional sense. It can mean a completely non existent father or someone that isn't at home very often or someone who is but is emotionally unavailable for whatever reason.

I know Noel Tyl and Basil Ferrington see it that way.

My dad was gone a lot, and never really felt like I gained anything from him (at least emotionally or spiritually). My retrograde Saturn is in the 1st.

So when Saturn goes retrograde, and our charts have Saturn retrograde, does that mean anything for us?

I have saturn in cancer rx in the 4th and people always interpret my chart as my dad being absent. Not true, he was there, he was my favoured parent but I suppose he is a very quiet man.

I have Saturn rx in Aries (Fall)

My father wasn't around much and we did not get along. I had to write him letters to express myself.. talking was a one way street.
Very strict and not engaged....
We now have a much better relationship.
Things changed for the better once I moved out.

Hey AG!!

i am a cappy with retro saturn in libra in 3rd )

and i can totally agree with this :

Saturn Retrograde- Persons with Saturn Retrograde in their birth charts do not like to be known in public (except my 5th house Moon), they find security in intellectuals or spirituals....They appear shy, uneasy, introvert, lacking in self assertion....They feel alone, isolated, separated from their friends and are seldom understood and very reserved.

altho i have improved a lot and dont feel like i am misunderstood. like with all things saturn, its getting better with time

taurus/gemini cusp, me and my sis r both saturn retrograde's, and we had a very disturbed childhood too. wont go into the details, but my father was mostly absent.

ILWL - the italics is spot on. This is what I have pretty much what I have felt. What makes it worse it that my saturn is anarectic and opposes sun/merc in 10th for me. It also rules my MC.

Saturn rx in the 4th here too. Umm, my dad has worked night shift for as long as I can remember. I barely see him. He's just a very quiet guy as well. Saturn is a water singleton in my chart, which I guess is supposed to have a profound effect on my personality. But as far as dad goes, his 'absence' or reticence doesn't really bother me. Maybe it's cos we're both the same, kind of self-isolating. If I got his time correct, then he has a stellium in the 12th.

That's a very appropriate interp., I think. Gotta look into the other rx planets though. All of my outer planets are rx.

Another Saturn Retrograde in the 1st. I don't think I was ever neglected by my parents; if I was then maybe I didn't realize it because I was always accomodated by by twin sister.

I think I'm like teaologist in that even though I barely see my dad, it never really bothers me.

I have Saturn Rx in Virgo, 5th house.

thanks HD...

quote:

...makes me feel better about having it in rx.

AG, all of this rang true for me...

quote:

but it's also part of a t-square.
