Topic: people prone to drinking - prominent aspects??

Yah, how funny that I am drinking as I write this.But, are there past threads, that have info that may point towards aspects that may indicate that a person could have trouble with drinking? I am not quite there yet. Once or twice a week for a long time..but suddenly it is hitting.. it has been three days in a row..and today, I needed it, for the 4th day, despite money being pretty tight and frankly I do not mind to much. I have neptune opposition venus... I get drunk pretty easily.. I don't drink to often though.. maybe once a month. When I was younger I use to drink pretty often. I guess I got it out of my system. I do have to watch that I don't drink when things are stressful. IP: Logged |

Ugh. My boyfriend cannot turn down alcohol. It is impossible for him.He only drinks hard liquor. He drinks 151 and grain alcohol like water. That doesn't mean he handles it well. He's horrible. And he's such an annoying drunk too. He's not addicted or anything but I think he enjoys drinking a little too much. He's got the Sun conjunct Neptune, Neptune conjunct IC (exact), Mars/Pluto (conjunction = extreme actions) sextile Neptune, a Neptune singleton in Capricorn, square the AC. I think drinking makes him feel more comfortable in his own skin. He believes he's invincible in reality, but an snowboarding accident has humbled him (Once a star athlete, can't play anything anymore). So when he drinks, he can't feel the physical pain and thinks he's "Mr. Awesome" again. Moon conjunct Jupiter in the 5th makes him party hard . Venus sextile Jupiter only amplifies his indulgent streak plus Jupiter (excess) square Pluto (extremes) sure does NOT help anything On top of having 5 planets in fire, they're all in Sagittarius he goes overboard...often. A little too often for my tastes. He needs to learn some limits...Hmph

Moon in a water sign
in the 12th house

Wow! My 1000th post and the subject is alcoholism. Two yrs sobriety here (5/22) and I have none of the aspects anyone has mentioned here except my moon in water sign Pisces. I only like and drink the hard stuff.  alanabelle, sorry but he's a typical alcoholic. Go to any AA or Al-anon. You'll hear those very same "symptoms" mentioned many times. spry IP: Logged |

I drink like a fish. I get drunk probably 3 nights a week. I drink during the day on the weekends. Brunch, happy hour, whatever!I drink jack on the rocks. Southern comfort. Vodka. Tequila. Jameson. Anything really hard, that burns... I love the burn. I love red wine, the loopy feeling... I cry when I'm drunk. I blackout. I get hangovers. I need alcohol... literally. I need it to relax me, calm me down. I can identify with whoever's boyfriend who needs it to feel like "Mr. Awesome". I'm in a place where I don't ever feel comfortable in my own skin... I'm a nice girl, smart, and I'm pretty, but I am so f*cking shy and self conscious. When I get in social situations I need something to take the edge off. I'm pretty and shy, so people's first impression is to automatically think I'm a ***** . I feel like I have to be go overboard to be super nice and social, I drink to make myself chatty. Guys make me really uncomfortable, when they stare at me or flirt with me... so I drink to relax. It's so unbelievably psychological, but I can't help it. I know my family has a history of alcoholism... so I usually just pin it on that, but it'd be interesting to see if there is a correlation between signs and drinking.

I've always had a problem with addiction.. which includes drinking..
For me, It's an escape from it all... numb myself up and maybe it will go away...
Now I "know" this isn't going to happen deep inside... but on the surface it works for the moment.. and becomes a cycle...
I tend to drink in waves...
I believe it is my Mars/Neptune/MC conjunction in Scorpio.My father is an alcoholic.. although, he does not drink anymore.. hasn't for some 15-20 years...

I guess but he drinks in spurts..like twice a month. But they're like...really heavy drinking sessions. He's a frat boy, what can I say?
He can prob become one very easily. He was developing habits for a while, I'm glad I made him choose between me and the alcohol a few years back. Ever since then it's been like I said...twice a month or less.

Neptune is gooooood in the 12th house  My Neptune is not kind to me...it squares Mars and Venus, but I don't drink much. I did have issues with substance abuse tho.. But it's ironic that the planet that almost destroyed me, is now helping me heal. I'm more spiritual and happier/more peaceful - not that I'm a Buddha! I guess Neptune has two sides. Also I'm very lucky, my life was never messed up by drugs. I still have my friends, family, I'm well educated and I have a great job. Maybe she took it easy on me since I'm one of her own  ------------------

Lalalinda, I have Moon in Cancer in 12th house, Venus square Neptune, Neptune in 6th...and when I drink I don't have a stop button, so I try not to drink because I scare people. Too much excess in that area.------------------

I'm an alcoholic, I drink maybe once or twice a month, however I binge drink, I can't have 2 drinks, I must have 22. I'm also an addict, I'm easily addicted to anything, people, drugs, gambling etc, etc. I don't gamble as I know myself too well, I take absolutely no drugs, ok ok almost absolutely no drugs, I smoke cigarettes, and I'm addicted to my computer, lindaland, and my lover, gardening and too many more things to name.....I have Venus opposite Neptune, a Pisces Moon, and I'm an adult child of alcoholic addicts. I have an email somewhere from William which pointed to midpoints (in my case) as highlighting (possibly) problems with addiction, must search that out, and take another look at it  IP: Logged |

Someone i have known to have a chronic dope addiction and alcoholism had:
*Neptune(sag) in the 3rd Square Venus(pisces) in the 6th.
*Neptune(3) sq. Moon in 12th(virgo).
*Moon(virgo) closely opposite mercury(pisces).
*Pluto(1st) opposite Sun(7th) (closely)
*Saturn in 12th.In short version it was a reality vs dreamland predicament.
I think the signs of Pisces and Virgo are both signs to be prone to excessive drinking drug abuse more than others due to the reality-illusion axis. It depends on the reasons why a person is an alcoholic when looking for prominent aspects. A Moony or Cancerian alcoholic might induldge in a drink because it makes him/her feel more confident and is able to express their deep feelings more, Whereas a MArtian or Aries (lots of mars energy in chart) like character might drink more because of the need to live life to max and if alcohol increases every feeling that a person feels (joy, hope, sorrow etc) then the Arien really feels ALive...

I am friends with a guy who is an alcoholic. He has Moon in Scorpio 1st, Venus conjunct Neptune in Scorpio. I think planets in water can contribute to it. Also he comes from a long line of alcoholics. He told me once that he was a social drinker. I told him clearly you're an alcoholic because you drink everyday! Whenever someone doesn't need a function to attend, but can drink just for no reason unless you call escapism a reason, than they have a problem. Alcoholism also runs in my mom's side of the family. I drink occasionally. If I'm out to dinner I may have a glass of wine or if I'm going out with girlfriends I'll have 2-3 drinks. As of now I don't go out anymore so I rarely drink at all.IP: Logged |

my dad is quite addicted to his drinks....6 days a week...whiskey...we(my family) have had major fights on this issue...with great difficulty we've made him cut down...i'm not sure what in his chart contributes to his addiction..so if someone can throw some light on that i'd really appreciate it  ...these are his placements..sun-19 pis 23'9"

I've always wondered if maybe I have alcoholism... but I don't NEED it everyday. If i'm sitting at home, I don't *need* to drink. But, if I'm going out with a bunch of people, or if I know I'll be in a social situation (bar, wedding, bbq, etc) then I usually need a drink to relax me. Only when I was REALLY depressed would I drink by myself to "escape" my own thoughts. Do my placements indicate any "addiction" or "alcoholism" mentality.....?

You don't have to drink everyday or every week to be an alcoholic. One guy I know would only drink in the middle of the night when he couldn't sleep. It started occurring maybe once a week until, suddenly, he realized he couldn't get to sleep if he didn't take a few drinks. Others talk of being "sophisticated" because they drank wine.They would never be low life bar flies. Whatever! Talk about snob complex!! With me, I drank maybe once every 3 months and when I did it was serious business. No half measures here. I was on a mission to get s**t faced drunk. I'd get in knock down, drag out fights, have blackouts and woke up in jail I don't know how many times. For years I drank with and around others. Serious problems began when I became a closet drinker. Those in AA get wide, serious eyes when they talk about recluses and closet drinkers. I guess there's a strong link with suicide. Though I didn't have thoughts of suicide, I do know I was seriously depressed at those times and very, very lonely. Some say anyone who drinks even one time is an alcoholic. I think that's a bunch of crap. It's not about how many drinks you have or how often. IMO it's about WHY you drink.
Do you drink to escape, or dull your feelings and senses? Do you drink because you think you're more fun or interesting once you get alcohol in you? Do you find yourself constantly thinking and planning out your next drink? Do you have hiding places where you stash your bottles all over your house that you think no one else knows about? If yes, then you may be an alcoholic. Alcoholism is a serious addiction and, for some, very hard to give up. I wasted 20 yrs numbing myself to life and all its wonderful blessings. Never again!!! I think that with "binge drinking" on the rise (at least in the U.S.), it's so hard to really decipher what is and isn't alcoholism. And what's worse, is that "rehab" and "AA" have become almost trendy because of celebrities. Rehab is now a way to get more publicity and media attention... a way to be "popular" in Hollywood. I have a family member who hides beer cans, and bottles of liquor in his trunk of his car, under his bed, in his closet, everywhere. He is on a lot of medication, probably can't hold a beer or two without getting very drunk. It's sad, because while I don't think he drinks a large quantity of alcohol(no vodka, or whiskey... just beer & baileys...), it's obviously a very dark thing for him. Always has been. It's a lonely disease, I feel terrible for those who are touched by it, and worse for those who actually experience it. ------------------

I used to drink often and a lot, especially for someone my size and age. I've eased on it now, but whenever things get stressful, I always need that drink or maybe 2 drinks. After I had my appendix removed, I was hooked on painkillers for awhile and even now, when I've had a bad day or when things are going tough, I tend to rely on pills to take the pain away.
