Can be a more humane way to die if it's certain you are going to die anyway. I don't mean die in the sense that we're all eventually going to die, but you know if you've got brain damage or dementia, and you're already lying on your death bed because your body is also not well...then why prolong things?IP: Logged |

>>>Can be a more humane way to die if it's certain you are going to die anyway I would also allow all above 75 years to have the option to die.

My father died at age 49 from pancreatic cancer. He did not have a long drawn out death but had he, i would have been ok with it. With restrictions, i am not against this.IP: Logged |

"The left of this country are more humane and understand the problem well"Fine. If true then leftists have already learned the lessons of this life. Let's Euthanize them to make way for the less enlightened souls to be born. IP: Logged |

when my paternal grandmother was dying of cancer she begged grandfather to just kill her, for the pain was so great. but until the very last she was strong-willed, and although it was most definite that she was dying, she kept her spirit up.she did die soon after... at this point, what is the reason to torture the person? she lived bravely, and if she said she rather died at that point, she knew what she was saying... Case by case.If I ever look at being put into an old folks home, I'll probably suicide. But I won't need a doctor's help for it, I'm sure. Even if allowed, I'd probably choose to do it on my own as it's cheaper and I'd probably be more efficient and less painful about it anyway. The only challenge I can think of is if I have a life insurance policy then that refuses to pay due to suicide (wouldn't stop me, as I've always been up for a challenge when it comes to doing what I want despite what society says I can and can't do). Though I suppose I might choose to live and suffer through such indignities for the sake of others, maybe. I just won't know until I reach that day (which I hope I don't--I wanna live a lot longer, but I don't want to waste away in one of those places). I've also got plans to make an alternative to nursing homes, and if I succeed, I might spend my last days there, too. Anyway, back OT, I also thought of this vid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JwW9L_qzqp8
Warning, sad video about someone who will never live again, but is not allowed to die. And btw, I've heard from a nurse that many in such comas and the like DO have awareness of their condition, nightmares, and the like. They can even scream and moan while still in a coma. IP: Logged |

its a license to kill. our bodies have their own ways of coping, and perhaps we are meant to endure for our good or as part of the process. it is the tip of the iceberg.IP: Logged |

i think if these people (who are in a coma, etc.) were not getting medical assistance, the most natural thing that would be happening to their bodies would be death. when the case is desperate, i don't really understand why they have to "assist" the life to prolong their sufferings.but of course, i understand it can be a difficult task to draw a line between "who can die" and "who can't". it IS case by case.
