fayte, you've written a lot about past lives so I have a query for you, but I suppose I must begin at the beginning.

Over the years I have managed to tap into some past lives (and I use that term as a convenience, because I think it's more likely that time is not a line, but a grid, which would make lifetimes parallel). I've discussed these lives at length with a very dear friend I made here at LL whose opinion I value very highly, but being the Aries I am, I am also looking for other ways at looking at things.

While I don't want to discuss the actual content because they are so highly personal, what I am getting at is how relevant are they?

I don't view karma as punishment, though I suppose consciousness of a life might be interpreted as "reward." I don't think we 'pay' for past lives; rather, we experience what we need to experience. In fact, I'm not sure it's necessarily good for us to view glimpses of lives that are not a part of our current consciousness...but when we do, how much credence do we give to them?

What impact do they have on the Here/Now? Do we use them as a guide? A History lesson left buried? An indication of what is to come?

And what of those we recognize from these lives? Do we assume they may have an increasing impact on our Here/Now, because we have zoomed in on a time that included them? Or is it just a little gift to see them in a Separate Here/Now?

I know these things have been discussed many times, but perhaps a new perspecitive on a new day with a new moon will yield new insights.

Any and all input from anyone is most welcome.

Namaste.

For me its about resolving emotional blocks that I can't get past. It has always been to let the horrific feelings in and then they go away. Perhaps I have had many lives of suppressing emotions so i have found an outlet for that in this lifetime. Maybe other people have gotten other things out of past life memorie. Also for me its never direct memories, its always a deep "knowing" that comes when I am struggling with something similar or with an issue that is creating similar feelings.

I suppose if you are fortunate enough to possess foresight or hindsight into your past (parallel) lives, then I suppose in context of the one you are currently living, whatever knowledge you gain, you are supposed to.
So any seeking is for your betterment. Nothing can be forbidden in the sense that it is to your benefit to learn everything you learn. And it is all for a reason.
My thoughts ( that just came to me) anyway...

Hi Trill, If I may. I can't refrain from commenting on my thoughts on Karma. Can any one seperate their shadow from their body? Karma follows life in such a way.

Its effect can also be described as when a mirror collects layers of dust if its not cleaned periodically.

Time is what we have quantified it to be. What we experience is because we choose to be aware of it. Neither sadness, happiness, richness, poverty is desired by individuals who experience that state.

Well will revisit to see how this thread pans out. Take care.

Yes, Pixie, I tend to agree, though sometimes I wonder if that's because I want to believe those things...

An excellent analogy, thank you. But...
quote:
What we experience is because we choose to be aware of it. Neither sadness, happiness, richness, poverty is desired by individuals who experience that state.

...are these two sentences not contradictory?
Which is fine, because life is often contradictory, it seems.

Fayte, I will be interested in what you have to say.

And to anyone else, I seek your insights as well. Thank you, and Namaste.

Hi, trillian.
When it comes to glimpses of past lives, I try to put it in this kind of perspective ... considering this one current life on its own, how much have we already forgotten? The memories are all there, but certain ones stand out sharper than others because they've had a stronger impact on our lives. I suppose if you tried really hard you could recall most, if not all, of this life's memories but what would be the point? Usually, memories just come flooding back when you have a 'need' for them. That need could be comfort or hope or just plain remembering a lesson you learned and a new way to apply it ... our memories can teach us a lot about who we are and where we've been.
Well, then we have past lives (and, arguably, future lives and parallel lives, etc.). Aren't glimpses into past lives just memories of where you've been and who you've been? Rolled all together they make you who you are. Is there a point in trying hard to remember every detail of every last life? I don't think so, not just randomly or out of sheer curiosity. But when you've recalled a memory out one of your lives, I'm pretty sure it's for a reason that relates to your current situation. And it doesn't have to be some highly meaningful, awe inspiring recollection of greatness or whatever. Sipping hot tea on a cool evening could bring back an image of you in Scotland, sitting by the fire with a loved one just as easily as it could remind you of when Grandma first sat you down for a cup of tea. They're your memories and you can do with them what you Will.

As for people we keep running into, I think that's highly individualized. Some people may be working 'with' you throughout a number of lives for some goal only you all would know if were standing between incarnations. Some you may just have strong ties with and your paths will cross throughout any number of lives ... that long lost lover coming back for another chance ... or that person who broke your heart coming back to make amends ... or that person you teamed up with to royally screw someone over to see if you're up for the same kind of mischief ... or the person you screwed over giving you a chance to make amends ... the possibilities are limitless. It's easy to say that there is one certain way you should deal with everyone you meet but that isn't realistic. You'll deal with these situations like you deal with any others. Eventually you'll learn whatever it was you were meant to learn from each other. But I think the fact that, for example, someone you recognize from numerous previous lives as a close friend and/or loved one would be enough of an incentive for you to keep things going smoothly between you. After all, how many true friends have you found in this life? It's nice to know that someone may be a friend many lives over, I think.

>>>are these two sentences not contradictory?

Hehehe....contradictory .... yes...the ying/yang as what you seem to say

What I mean to say is these people knows that nothing lasts forever. They are aware of the transitory nature of things. They are not too happy nor too sad. Yet they are very happy and very sad at the same time. You may see them mingling with beggars on streets and the next day dining with in a high class society.

Kind of like flowing with the wave and (falling with the ebb).

The universe takes care of them somehow. Its funny that the old adage "Do not wish, for what you wish may come true." is so true. Especially for these people. They know what to wish and how to wish for it.

For example , I will give a dirty
(not to some hehehe) example. Lets say you have not been laid for months. And you desire the cutest person sincerely. Its amazing how they walk in to your life.
Or lets say you are poor and cannot afford meals and have been hungry this way for a long time. When the limit is reached, which I believe there is for every man/woman. They wish and lo the food arrives at your door. Who was that stranger who arrived on your door?

Also, I believe that it is not important to understand your past lives completely. It can be detrimental than being constructive. The past karma is coded in to us and we do have some idea of where we have been. I do not wish to be misunderstood here. Where one is going is indeed determined by where one has come from. I certainly believe that. Well now I I may seem contradictory. But the point is, lets say you wake up one morning with a great craving. If you had memory you would know that its because of the cocaine you had taken earlier that night. If somehow you loose your memory, you will wonder what is it that will give me what I crave for? You search the room and only find a empty plastic bag. In reality this seldom happens unless one is blindly given it. But again its not the best example but something to allude to if we may.

I will still answer in full Trillian. I just want to be very clear on my answers.
Ultimately the identity you have now in this lifetime is the one who is driving your boat so to speak. The past identities are all you have been and you are an amalgam of that. And yes..the memories or deja vu do come forward as "needed". That is why I highly disapprove of hypnotic past life regressions.
All the memories are within your soul..patterned and saved; just as you are patterning and recording this lifetime. But to use hypnosis to pull up what did not come naturally in visions...dreams..deja vu...triggerings..
No..not a good thing to do, and can cause psychological damage, or even delusions of grandeur.(this often occurs when a person remembers "seeing" a famous person and then believes it was them! So goes the whys there are so very many Cleopatras!)It can also bring up terrors that have no bearing on this lifetime. Or desires. Or many other things not meant to be known in this lifetime.
I will get back to all this asap.
I did reply to Lia at: http://www.linda-goodman.com/ubb/Forum17/HTML/001028-5.html
She had been patiently awaiting my reply there for some time so I wanted to answer her first. Since it involved questions related to past lives I thought it belonged here also.
Great questions everyone and many observations I do agree with. The things I do not jive on, are the Karmic issues and the parallel lifetimes. Will explain later.
Thanks!

Interesting thoughts, everyone. Thank you very much.

Fayte, I will read your other thread as soon as I can. I have no problem with past life regressionists helping people tap into something/somewhere else. I will write more on this later, as I haven't the time right now.

Namaste.
