I've always wondered if your chart ruler shapes your personality..

Capricorn Ascendent, Saturn in Aquarius

A portion from a website:

"...Aquarius Saturn is a good friend. They are responsible, loyal and impartial. They are level-headed and stable. It may be difficult for them to make friends. They may be a loner socially, but they really want to be a part of a group. It is difficult for them to be accepted because they can't help the superiority complex they exude..."
http://www.alwaysastrology.com/saturn-in-aquarius.html

I know Saturn in Aquarius is a generational influence, but when I read the astrological descriptions of it..it seems to fit me more than the Capricorn Ascendent descriptions.

Yes, your chart ruler plays a large role in your personality and appearance. So you would have some Aquarian traits about you (maybe you like to dress crazy or have eccentric appearance?) or something like that.

So for instance I have Scorpio rising with my Pluto in Scorpio (conj. ASC) and Mars (traditional ruler of Scorpio) in Pisces. That DEFINITELY strengthens the Scorpio look about me and adds some Piscean flare.

Aqua Sun ---> Scorpio Stellium in Rising

There's a constant internal war going on here. Two extremes I fight to balance. I feel completely "Scorpionic" and out of step when my aquarian traits attempt to shine; totally bizarre to say the least...

Does your chart ruler form any conjunctions/oppositions or sqaures with personal planets. With an orb of 10 or less?

I have Taurus Asc, ruler Venus forms a conjunction with Saturn in Scorpio. Add to that, my MC(affinity to Saturn) forms a square to both.

Saturn ruled people have an extremely "earthy" masculine appearance about them(even the women have very prominent bone structure) and project a "down to earth"/no nonsense personality(even in signs that are to its "detriment" or "fall").

My mom actualy believed I was Sun in Capricorn (because of Saturns influence) and I do have prominent bone structure fetaures.

I , however do think that the moon, in its own sign of cancer, does "soften" the edges of an overly taciturn appearance.

As I grow older,my looks are more "rounded". I have a large round head and "fleshy" chest. I even look close to...eh "good-looking" (or so I have been told).

You're right I'm not a fashionista-nazi, I steer clear of those types. I've been humbled by being raised in a lower-middle class setting with thrift shop, sewn together and hand me downs with the sprinkle of Christmas and birthday high-end clothes from my grandmother.

Since working I can now go buy trendy name brand clothes, yet I always find myself at the economic thrift shop and once in a blue moon you'll find me at the mall or a name brand store.

Yet, I like to have fun with my clothes and I never really care if it's in or not, or fashionable as long as I'm comfortable.

Hell, I like to make my own tee's and tanks it's just fun and free.

Went to my Leo's friend party with a pink and purple plaid tunic, overalls shorts and ankle cowboy boots with beaded bangles. Fun and comfy for a July birthday involving outdoors and indoors.

At the event my Leo and Sag friend comments: "We know you pull these outfits out of your arse Kat, yet you always show up as cute as a button"

...But in the end I rather be a nudist. *shrugs*

I've been wondering about this.

I'm not sure how far we can go with the ASC ruler and its effects on our appearance.

For example, do we look at the house the ruler is in, at all? What about the aspects, do they all affect our appearance, too?

So far, I think the aspects play a role, but not all of them, it seems.. I'd say the conjunction is the more potent. Trines and squares, not so much.. at least from what I've noticed.

For example, my chart ruler conjuncts the Sun and I have red hair. It can only be that, cause Gem risers aren't known for red hair.

Okay, this is going to sound funny. I don't have any major aspects to my Saturn, but I have the Sun, Venus, and I believe Mars making aspects to my Capricorn Ascendent.

Yes, I have a prominent bone structure. I get mistaken for being taller than I am, but at last I'm still an oompa loompa.

I agree with the water moon. I have a Pisces Moon and it does tone down the serious murder face of Saturn.

All in all I'm enjoying this feedback, it seems like the chart ruler is important after all.

Yet, when I try to search for information on the chart ruler it's always about the houses and the planets, in my case Saturn in the 1st house instead of the sign Saturn in Aquarius.

For example having the chart ruler in the first house gives a person an Aries flare or Saturn in the first makes a person more reserved.

How does the sign of Aquarius play in that?

I'm Virgo Rising. That makes Mercury my chart ruler. It's in 2nd house, in Libra, in conjunction with Sun (and i do not have red hair , i've just always liked red hair), and in conjunction with Venus. That adds to my Libra side, i guess. I've recently decided i'm very Libran. I think it has added to my looks, too.

And especially to my taste on men, lol. Virgo rising alone gives me pickiness, but with all that Libra, I've noticed, where that pickiness comes from. I look for a man that will look good in the eyes of my fellow people, like i want them to admire him or something. I hate it, but it just happens naturally. I've no idea what to do about it.

I apologize, usually on online forums nowadays depending on the subject matter at hand I'm never really serious or I'm just down right silly especially when it comes to my own threads.

I just can't help to have a laugh at myself even regarding my own astrological placements hence the "oompa loompa" comment about a Capricorn Ascendent's prominent bone structure.

I never meant for it to bash other Capricorn Ascendents or make them feel bad.

I'm a cancer asc so the moon is my ruler.

My leo moon is in the first house.

Aspects:

Moon sextile venus
Moon trine pluto
Moon opposition uranus
Moon square mars
Moon trine jupiter
Moon trine MC
Moon sextile chiron

Question: does this make me more cancer like? Or leo? I'm lost

Appearance yes, if we do not limit "appearance" to the way we look.

Appearance in my understanding comes as a package; the looks are part of it of course, but so is our attitude, how we approach things/ the world etc.
It`s also what people usually notice about us (sometimes we are not even aware of it ourselves) and that is not only looks, but also the issues we are most concerned with for example.

In my case my chartruler is in Pisces in 3rd house squaring Neptune, and while this does not necessarily shape the way I look (how does Pisces look anyway?), those typical Neptunian traits are pretty much there in how I approach the world.

And others have often commented on two things they noticed about me, which were that I seemed to be very interested in them and always willing to communicate especially about psychological things (which probably is my 3rd house influence) and they also commented on my capacity for empathy and compassion, yet also a certain dreamy- and otherworldliness.

now of course that does not have anything to do with the way I look (except for that I do not really care how I look, most of the time - at least not in a fashion-sense), but it is very much part of the package I project out, apparently, and people notice that when they meet me face to face.

If looking to other aspects, it's even more tricky.

I've got

Mercury conjunct Sun
Mercury conjunct Venus
Mercury trine Mars
Mercury sextile Jupiter
Mercury square Saturn
Mercury square Uranus
Mercury square Neptune
Mercury quincunx ASC

Ah, and Mercury conjunct Nessus, whatever that means

Thus Pluto is my only planet that my chart ruler does not make any major aspect with (it's actually semiquintile with it, but noo way it's having an influence too)

Both.

Cancer ASC indicates that you are very concerned with emotions, especially emotional connections (at least that is what others may see about you).

The way you express this emotionality is indicated by your Moon in Leo. It gives another nuance or almost explains your Cancer-ASC.
I am not the best to interprete Moon in Leo (mine is in Aquarius, that must be the reason. lol), but I guess as a whole that gives a very warm, protective, nurturing, caring vibe, but at the same time with a great need for feeling safe and appreciated for just being the way you are.
Of course this might be true for anyone, but imagine your Moon had been in Capricorn, that would have been a total different combination. Still emotional connections would have been very important to you, because the ASC is in Cancer, but the expression of this would have been more boundary-oriented, reasonable, maybe not as overtly warm as Moon in Leo can be. Probably more concerned with feeling the right way or appropriately, while Moon in leo would be more about expressing one`s own identity and creativity just because - no reason really. Just because that is how you feel alive.
Moon in Leo is certainly more expressive than Moon in Capricorn at least on first glance.

EDIT:
If your Moon is in 1st house it of course also means that your emotions are pretty close to the surface; this might make you very sensitive and receptive.

My Asc is in Scorpio, Pluto in Libra (11th), Mars in Cancer (8th). There's nothing Libra and, especially, nothing Cancer about me. The whole spectrum of human emotions either scares or disgusts me, I'm fairly emotionally retarded, LOL. I'm also far from looking like either Libra or Cancer (except from an impressive bra size, lol). On the other hand, I have Uranus in my 1st (Scorpio, of course), conjunct Asc (just shy of 3 degrees of orb) and I can totally relate with a lot of Aqua traits.

I have Sagittarius rising, with Jupiter in an exact conjunction with Venus in Scorpio in the 11th. My North Node is also part of the tight conjunction.

I look very good with black hair and dark eyebrows. I can come off as unique but very intense to people from the Aqua-Scorpio mix.

I get along really well with partners who have Sagittarian traits somehow, ranging from well aspected Sagittarius planet[s] to Jupiter on the ASC or on another angle.

Since my NN also aspects my chart ruler I think this indicates that I have an easy time being fashionable and observing where I think fashion is going from the Venus influence, and how to be stylish has always been like my 6th sense!

I've always had a unique yet very stylish sense of dressing. I stand out from the crowd without looking like I'm trying to be Bjork or something, hehe. I look good in black clothes that are form fitting but also casual clothes. I can sometimes come across as conceited and snobbish to be honest, but that's not who I really am.

I can see how this would be possible. I identify more with my chart ruler personally since I have zero planets in my 1st house. But, having a planet here and on the ASC will probably stand out to you as a way more immediate influence and I can see how this would make you seem Aqua or like Aqua-influenced things.

I agree.

In my case my chartruler is in Pisces square Neptune and Neptune is on the ASC - it is some sort of cumulative effect and it is very easy for me to identify with that energy.
I also have a stellium including Sun in Sag, so Jupiter-Neptune is very much a big identification factor for me.

However I have noticed that some people especially if their ASC is in a sign adverse or without common ground to their personal planets, seem to not identify with it. Though in many cases other people will notice it more clearly than the people themselves.

It really boils down to how the overall picture is.

BTW I find that also important in terms of the DESC.
Personally I do not feel attracted to my DESC sign Gemini all that much, though a strong Mercury in the other person is a must. But people who put all their personal planets in my 7th house usually don´t really attract me.

I am much more attracted to Sag energy. But my DESC-ruler is in Sag, and that agrees with my stellium in Sagittarius and even with my Moon in Aquarius.

let`s say someone has a stellium in Taurus with Moon in Virgo; DESC in Capricorn with DESC-ruler in Sagittarius.
I`d think he would rather be attracted and compatible with his DESC-sign than the sign of his ruler, as the earthiness of Cappy DESC is more agreeable with his personal planets.

I am getting carried away a little here, but I thinkt he same is probably true for the ASC-ruler and ASC as well, that it needs to be compared to your personal planets, too.
Of course planets conjunct ASC will have a HUGE influence on the ASC. Often if you have a planet conjunct ASC you might come across more like the sign associated with that planet than the sign of your ASC (but it is there in the background).
So Uranus on ASC might make someone come across as Aquarius often.
(same goes for planets I think. If you have pplanets conjunct your Sun or Moon, they might colour that expression SIGNIFICANTLY.)

Thank you for this break-down, I think I understand this a bit better now.

Though, maybe since I have Uranus in the 1st house along with Saturn in Aquarius that's probably why I'm a bit more rebellious and unreserved than my other Capricorn Ascendent friend.
