In chinese astrology, you are known to be very compatible with your fellow trine signs (least amount of arguments). Then you are also very drawn to and attracted to your palace sign and your soulmate sign--which is the one you're most compatible with. Palace and soulmate sogns may not be the people who you have the least arguments with but are definitely people who change your world, affect you strongly and make you feel very loved (moreso than trine signs)---especially the soulmate sign. In my observation of chinese astrology appearance and personality I've realized there are four ways to separate the signs: One is the traditional yin and yang groups---rabbit-pig-goat and snake-rooster-ox being the yin group, and tiger-horse-dog and dragon-monkey-rat being the yang group. I feel this is extremely fitting and very accurate. But note the pattern that occurs----the soulmate and palace signs for each group makes it clear that there is a second way to separate the four groups.

As you can see the dragon-monkey-rat and snake-rooster-ox groups are paired as either soulmates or palace signs

And the tiger-horse-dog and rabbit-pig-goat groups are paired as soulmates or palace signs.

Now, having noticed through my fascination for patterns in chinese astrology appearance, the trine signs have not only a similar appearance but similar behavior as well. It only follows, then, that I, as a Snake will not only feel strongly drawn to my palace sign, the dragon, and my soulmate sign, the monkey, but also to the other sign in that group----the rat. The rat very much reminds me of the way the monkey and dragon come off---similar personalities and appearance, and I HAVE noticed lately that I have a special bond with the rat, too, it's just that I never run into them since there's such a big age difference.

And when I saw the part about rats not getting along with their opposite, the horse, because they're too detached and devil-may-care, it hit me that I feel the exact same way about horses. It also hit me that the dragon and dog don't get along because the dog is rather passionless and critical...then I realized I feel the same way about dogs! Then also the monkey and the snake (soulmates) both are in conflict with the tiger and pig. I realized I don't really like anyone in the tiger-horse-dog group! I also don't like people in the rabbit-pig-goat group either but not as much. I have been realizing other people in my trine also dont like those two groups, but favor the dragon-monkey-rat like I do.

Then I realized that the two distinct groups share personality traits as well as similar appearance. The dragon-monkey-rat and snake-rooster-ox are both passionate, dreamers, intense, and sensual.
While the tiger-horse-dog and rabbit-pig-goat are both detached, expressionless, quirky and zany but removed from feelings, and rebellious/devil-may-care. I feel that the other two groups get attached to people more strongly and offer a more personal kind of love, while these last two offer a more impersonal love.

I may get along with the rabbit and goat (my fellow yin signs, akin to a sextile in western astro) but they certainly do annoy me...it's like I can never fully get them. They always seem detached and nervous. That's the way the horse tiger and dog feel too, but more aggressive and critical.

So it makes sense now why these groups get along and are each other's soulmate/palace signs! They are similar!

Here are the opposite signs

(*)Dragon-dog (dog too critical and stern and dragon too much of a showman/self-centered and flirtatious, makes the loyal dog paranoid.)
(*)Monkey-tiger (Monkey seeks harmony while tiger is too aggressive. Monkey wants freedom, tiger wants to command. Tiger is too impulsive and not intellectual/philosophical enough for monkey)
(*)Rat-horse (horse too cold and devil may care for the passionate attached rat)
(*)Snake-pig (pig too withdrawn, serious, and lacking in outer displays of sweetness for snake, as well as too crass and simple..both see each other as sneaky and mean)
(*)Rooser-rabbit (Rabbit too disorganized, zany, and strong willed for the equally strong willed but critical rooster, also too detached for the passionate rooster)
(*)Ox-goat (ox is too plain and practical for the dreamy goat, and also too sensual, while goat is detached and in another world)

Basically what ive noticed is the signs of the same trine act and look similar
And the yin rabbit-goat-pig and yang dog-horse-tiger are soulmate/palace signs to each other because theyre both detached and analytical

while the yin snake-ox-rooster and yang dragon-monkey-rat are soulmate/palace signs because they're both passionate, sensual, playful. I don't feel they deal well with the detached quality of the other two groups, it's like they dont express emotions enough for us.

I also dont get along with pigs : P
they grate on my nerves. (im a snake) they're bulliesssss ugh. and my friend is a snake and she's always telling me about how she hates pigs too and how her sister makes her life miserable.

My sister is a rabbit (part of that trine) so i dont get along splendidly with her either but she definitely doesnt make my life miserable at all. The rabbit-goat-pig trine is too cold for our trine :/
I appreciate their yin bc it means theyre deep like us but its like those two groups dont like expressing sweetness

I've definitely noticed a strong connection with the Goat.. which fits in with your theory. The only man I truly loved is a goat.
I also seem to very strongly clash with '88 born Dragons, although these particular people are just jerks by any human standards, not only my own.

I can't say I clash with the Snake though. My mum is a Snake and I've met some '89 born Snakes as well. I don't feel drawn to them romantically but I basically like them. My hour-sign/symbol is the Snake. Maybe that's why.

i dont necessarily clash with pigs either. they grate on my nerves bc theyre quiet and not very expressive or sweet, but i can live with them. Maybe its bc i have libra rising but i get along with everyone. Tigers i like a lot more than pigs, bc theyre my opposite sign! tigers are very sweet....noble too. i would even say innocent. ^__^
A lot of tigers in my life have been very loving, and have always inspired/motivated me. Tigers usually pour LOVE on me, and i really appreciate their encouragement, it does wonders for me i truly feel loved! but i find their optimism overwhelming

too much for me. too much fire. it overwhelms me. and also i feel like i cant have a truly deep talk with them, like their attention span is quickly on something else :PP

so i wouldnt be able to be long-term friends with either sign. i just feel like i cant connect with them on a deep level. like i cant find the substance there to connect with. so those are the two signs i connect with the least. i havent had a long term friend of either of those signs :/ eventually they started to annoy me :/

its not that i dislike the tiger. c'mon they are so loveable. who could dislike them? so optimistic and always up n at em. im just saying i couldnt have a longterm friendship with one bc not enough in common or for whatever reason just cant connect that way.

i COULD see myself having an all out war with the tiger or pig, though. it's like i dont truly respect the person they are in essence. my four cousins are tiger and pig (2 of each) and its very awkward when we're together...lots of tension

Haha yeah I'm a Horse and 88 dragons are a good time, but they're pretty ruthless... I'm not really a fan unless it's in small doses

Generally from the people I know I do tend to get along with Dogs (both my sisters are Dogs) and think Rabbits are really sweet and endearing. Idk about Goats being a soulmate sign though. I get along with them in friendship but have dated one and found him to be too passive in terms of goals, artsy but kind of snobbish about it. Maybe that had to do with his other signs tho and I just haven't met the right one yet lol

Also... I do like Snakes, it's my day sign too. One of my first classes at uni was intro to world religions, our extremely hot (imo) TA was talking about Chinese astro and told us he's a Fire Snake... I was a little bit infatuated not gonna lie lol

My longest relationship was with a Dog, I think Rabbits are cool too but I like the Pig for a relationship.

A Snake I dated was very sneaky and our relationship was very sexual from the start.But he kept so many things from me that I felt I could not get serious with him, he could really wound me.
