What a life it would be. She would rise in the a.m. & get the household up and running.

Cook breakfast, pack my lunch, get the banking done, pay the bills and off to work with a smile.

Wife would return, cook, get my cloths washed, clean, more chores and still smiling, she would ask if I had a good day and offer to make snacks .

I think a wife is a grand idea

I have 2 nurse friends whose husbands do that!

Well one died recently, both men were retired.

My friend with the still living hubby works her rear off and goes home to a lovely ranch and home that hubby has been taking care of all day.

SWEET!

LOL if couples want to be that way, let them!

My life is kind of like that, honestly.

Especially the part about the snacks, I'm always making cookies, smoothies, pita chips, mufffins, etc. And always doing laundry!

My life's honestly a bit like that, too, except that if my husband's home and not doing paperwork or making calls, he's doing housework or yard work.

There are many of us and we do it because we enjoy it! I`m not ashamed to say I`m an old fashioned "wife". I figure I have the best of both worlds; own my own business and be happy in a relationship too.

Actually, I suspect if I did have a wife, I would be reluctant to give up my labor of love and fuss to help

Hmm. Aries women are not particularly that version of wives. I can barely scramble eggs. But I can order!!!

If my future hubby would be into that whole domestic thing, maybe I could be persuaded to do it together. Or we can always get a housekeeper. I am voting for that.

@ Faith - Yummy! Care to pass some along. I wish there was some way like the one in Star Treck so that we could pass things over internet. Remember the dematerialisation of Captain Spock and team onto another planet?

@ Hera Do make sure that the housekeeper is a male or not so attractive female. Jkg.

LOL! I never watched Star Trek but I know the machine. So here:

*I'm beaming you some buttermilk pancakes that I made for a late lunch.*

*And here comes the can of whipped cream and some fresh berries to top them with*

We ought to have a virtual buffet here, that could be even more fun than preparing all the food myself!

In this day and age, households are rarely run this way. The practical realities are that a dual income has almost become an economic necessity.

I speak for myself and I recognize that I am in a unique situation where the Mrs. does not have to work. My Mrs. is first and foremost a mother rather than a "housewife," nor would I ever allow her to become one of those.

I work a full day. I'm out of the door before 5:30am and I'm through the door usually at 7:45 pm. I feed my family dinner from meals prepared the prior evening, and I cook for the next day. I clean up the kitchen. Check the homework, crack the whip on exams, and put my sons to bed, but not before ensuring their showers and their clothes for school the next day. I prepare their school lunches. And then I take out the trash, walk the dog, clean the cars if necessary, do grocery shopping, and then do the laundry. In between, all the bills are paid and the bank statements are reconciled to the penny.

By then, my work clothes would be packed away and I'll be dressed in home clothes, so I'm usually not in tip top presentable shape, but I still manage to keep my smile and not gripe/complain about work.

And then I take care of my wife as a husband should, in and out of bed. Do you think that "I am tired and can't perform" is a valid excuse? Not for me. I perform every evening.

Then I wake up in the morning and make my wife coffee and a simple breakfast before I jet off to work.

No, I don't sit down to football or whatever male-centric sports there is on TV. I don't know where you get the idea that husbands come home from work and do nothing. That is from a bygone era.

Most of my well-to-do friends have housekeepers and nannies to do their tasks. I admit I have a gardener and a handyman/electrician/plumber to help take care of home repair matters. However, I see maintaining my household as a serious reesponsibility and I run my household like a Fortune 500 company: efficiently, with diligence and without operational problems. But my wife isn't some enslaved domesticated robot. Yes, part of the "job" that she focuses on is keeping herself gorgeous and sexy, but that's her perrogativee, and that's only because I can afford to not have my wife work.

"One of those"...yes, "housewife" is like a dirty word.

You make it sound like it's beneath your wife's dignity to move so much as a finger for you. Her only "job" is to be hot.

Anyway, if you want to look down on women who run a traditional kind of house, maybe because we don't have Fortune 500 incomes, that's your prerogative, but it hardly makes you a feminist or "modern" or whatever.

If that works for you, YTA.

I take care of the home front and the kiddos (for now) because it makes more economic sense for my husband to bring home the bacon than for me to schlep an hour one way to have most of my paycheque go to childcare.

I take care of all of the "housewifery" because it's stuff that has to get done. I could leave it for my husband, I suppose, but one of the benefits of this particular division of labor is that the bulk of what once waited until our evenings and weekends to get done, *I* can do during the day thereby leaving free time...well...free.

My husband and I have a criminal amount of hang out and cuddle time compared to most dual-earners with kids that we know...a little less cash on hand, but that's not a huge deal.

I also get to have little girl dance parties with this song:

Which may, in fact, be the greatest song ever.

My wife is an awesome mother. Both my sons play music at the concert level and get all As in school. That alone speaks volumes.

Since when did I claim to be a feminist or some sort of progressive? That's very much against the fabric of my core set of conservative values.

If the household tasks can be better performed through hired help, I would gladly have a housekeeper and a live-in nanny since I am able to pay for it. My point is that I perform those tasks better than having to depend on others. Yes, I'm a control freak and a perfectionist.

My wife is my partner and my lover. She isn't some indentured, institutionalized slave.

I can scramble eggs. I can't guarantee they'll always be edible, but I do try. My sister once told me that I cook really good "bad" food (food that's bad for you - I make it look good). Fried eggs, homemade fries, cheesecake, and so on. I baked a lot as a kid/teen, but occasionally forgot little things, like the flour...

I stopped cooking for a while, because I kept making mistakes, like too much salt, or totally forgetting something. I've been making mostly salads and salad dressings, but haven't done anything for the past couple of weeks. I'll get into that again, I'm sure, but right now I'm hardly eating, and then attacking a piece of food that I finally decide that I want.
