Claimed motives of the United States and NASA

Those who believe the landings were faked give several theories about the motives of NASA and the United States government. The three main theories are below.
1)The Space Race
The US government deemed it vital that it win the Space Race against the Soviet Union. Going to the Moon would be risky and expensive, as exemplified by John F. Kennedy famously stating that the United States chose to go because it was hard.[16]

A main reason for the race to the Moon was the Cold War. Philip Plait states in Bad Astronomy that the Soviets—with their own competing Moon program and a formidable scientific community able to analyze NASA data—would have cried foul if the United States tried to fake a Moon landing,[17] especially since their own program had failed. Proving a hoax would have been a huge propaganda win for the Soviets. Bart Sibrel responded, "the Soviets did not have the capability to track deep spacecraft until late in 1972, immediately after which, the last three Apollo missions were suddenly canceled."[18]

However, the Soviets had been sending unmanned spacecraft to the Moon since 1959,[19] and "during 1962, deep space tracking facilities were introduced at IP-15 in Ussuriisk and IP-16 in Evpatoria, while Saturn communication stations were added to IP-3, 4 and 14",[20] the latter having a 100 million km range.[21] The Soviet Union tracked the Apollo missions at the Space Transmissions Corps, which was "fully equipped with the latest intelligence-gathering and surveillance equipment".[22] Vasily Mishin, in an interview for the article "The Moon Programme That Faltered" (Spaceflight, March 1991, vol. 33, 2-3), describes how the Soviet Moon program dwindled after the Apollo landings.
2)Funding
It is claimed that NASA faked the landings to forgo humiliation and to ensure that it continued to get funding. NASA raised about US$30 billion to go to the Moon, and Bill Kaysing claims that this could have been used to "pay off" many people.[23] Since most conspiracists believe that sending men to the Moon was impossible at the time, they argue that landings had to be faked to fulfill President Kennedy's 1961 promise: "achieving the goal, before this decade is out, of landing a man on the Moon and returning him safely to the Earth".[16] Others have claimed that, with all the known and unknown hazards,[24] NASA would not have risked the public humiliation of astronauts crashing to their deaths on the lunar surface, broadcast on live TV.[25]
3)Vietnam War
It is claimed that the landings helped the US government because they were a popular distraction from the Vietnam War; and so manned landings suddenly ended about the same time that the US ended its role in the Vietnam War.[26]

I do not feel they were fake.
The publicly shown footage may have been faked because video cameras were uber primitive then some 43 years ago to date.
Also if something went wrong the government would not want that made public.
The possibly fake footage is I feel based on the actual real footage.
Some Lexigrams concerning moon landings.

I believe the first one was faked.

I personally don't believe we had the technology to land on the moon the first time. But we figured it out later.

Fox did a special on it a few years back. It raised some good questions. Like why did the flag wave in the wind, when there is no air on the Moon?

Very interesting Randall so they accidently forgot the fact that there's no atmosphere on the moon.

Lots of other things also. I probably sound like a crackpot, but there are some interesting doubts.

^ I have my doubts as well.

Question: why did they all of the sudden stop going to the moon? Explanations given don't make any sense to me- they don't seem to jive with how the government/NASA function. http://news.discovery.com/space/are-we-going-back-to-the-moon.html

And the astronauts who supposedly went there act fishy, as far as I'm concerned. Neil Armstrong gave no interviews...when he finally did, he was obviously being evasive.

This on top of the other anomalies.

I was a young teenager in grade school back then. (Yes, okay! I'm "old" but not decrepit!) I remember the teacher reading to us about the artists who won some kind of competition for their neat idea to make the flag appear to wave by using wires. Afterall, there IS no atmosphere?

We are heading to Mars in 2033 to form a colony. It's a one-way trip, though.

It was about a faked mars landing, but it was hinting at the moon.

anyone ever heard of Andrew Basiago? he claims to have gone to mars as a child. his story sounds crazy, although he doesn't seem crazy to me...

I participated in that contest and or one of them.
I even made actual physical prototypes.
I feel there have been and still are internationally comprised trips to the moon and perhaps underground bases;
all kept secret of course.
Like perhaps the world at large is not ready to know what was found there and what is being done there.
