The whole course of human history may depend on a change of heart in one solitary and even humble individual - for it is in the solitary mind and soul of the individual that the battle between good and evil is waged and ultimately won or lost. --M. Scott Peck

Never frown, even when you are sad, because you never know who is falling in love with your smile.

By Anthony de Mello, SJ

"Calamities can bring growth and Enlightenment," said the Master. And he explained like this:

"Each day a bird would shelter in the withered branches of a tree that stood in the middle of a vast deserted plain. One day a whirlwind uprooted the tree, forcing the poor bird to fly a hundred miles in search of shelter—till it finally reached a forest of fruit-laden trees."

The Master concluded, "If the withered tree had survived, nothing would have induced the bird to give up its security and fly."

I used to believe that I survived because of my resilience, rather than exuberance, which Kay Redfield Jamison described in her book "Exuberance- The Passion for Life" as the key element to human survival, among many other things. When I re-read her memoir "An Unquiet Mind" for the third and the fourth times, I noticed that she frequently used the word(s) exuberance/exuberant in the book as well.
(I've divided my original post into several due to cyber rush hour, sorry)

What I'm trying to say is, until recently, for many years I had perceived life, mine at the very least, to be dark, gray, tragic, full of unfulfilled longing, yearning, and sense of loss...I've discussed this at
http://www.linda-goodman.com/ubb/Forum1/HTML/009775.html

which is affiliated with
http://linda-goodman.com/ubb/Forum1/HTML/009389.html

BUT, now this guy whom I've discussed extensively here at LL (at other forums mostly) just makes me feel so strongly toward him- I've felt so happy and so sad at different times because of him. I love his smile. (to be continued as the post had to be divided into at least three due to online traffic)

I love it whenever he smiles, whenever he laughs, whenever he grins...I love watching him smile, watching him sleep, watching him focus on something so intensely, watching him being so poised and self-assured about what he is doing, seeing him caring about me so genuinely...watching him doing anything. Watching him being himself. His dazzling smile is like the sun to me. His laid-back and carefree attitude relaxes me a bit, which is just about the polar opposite of my anxiety and which I truely admire...

I see beauty in everything about him...He makes me feel that life can be joyful, cheerful, bubbly...and fun...that I can chill out at times without all that anxiety and seriousness...He has made me ecstatic, thrilled and overjoyed. It is as though finally, there's a human being who has made me understand what exuberance feels like, that life can be about exuberance, instead of only resilience...(excuse me- I didn't know I would need to divide my original post into so many smaller ones)

and,

You didn't understand what I was trying to say- what you thought I was doing was EXACTLY THE OPPOSITE of what I really was doing. I prefer writing all I want in one post, believe me! It's just either computer glitches or the cyber rush hour are such a pain in the neck, so I often have to reluctantly split my original posts into several- I hate doing this but frequently I have to!

Now I don't sound cheerful and this doesn't fit the title of the thread.

talk to god as if he is here
talk to god as if he is near
and in your times and of the hour
you feel his mighty POWER,
anything from a scented flower
or a day drean hour,
you will feel the hand and its warm embrace
a tender touch and gentle grace
if you know of me you have seen gods face.

Hey, jehovah81

You're from Auckland, NZ! I spent three months in Auckland four years ago receiving an examination prep training, and then spent another three traveling throughout both islands NZ, to my mind, remains one of the better places for people to live in, don't you reckon?

Thanks for the beautiful verse. I would like to imagine the being I'm speaking to is the man I adore instead of God. Because he means so much to me, and he actually has saved my life more than once!
