AG do you grow the nails out on your right hand?

I've been fooling around with the guitar for about a year now (i'm a pianist by trade), but I dno't want to grow my nails out because I won't be able to play piano, plus I can't help but chew on them.

Well to answer your question, I keep my nails medium length on both hands. Occasionally my left hand nails are too long for guitar playing, and that gets in the way, so I cut them.

With regard to the question of playing classical without nails, my instinct is that you can indeed adapt. I just tested it out, and you should be able to pluck with the tip of you fingers, though it may require a bit more precision.

You shouldn't really let your nails hold you back one way or the other. The sound of the piano drowns out the clicking of fingernails, and Sagittarian Jimi Hendrix seems to indicate you can be a fine guitarist even without perfecting your finger-picking.

Two more things:

1. Guitar seems like the perfect instrument for Sags. Two of the guys I play with are Sags. I think of the whole "Archer" thing, and think they ought to know how to maneuver a stringed instrument. Plus, guitars are portable, which is perfect for the Sag on the run. The Sag guitarist I know are very social, and like to learn covers to play at social gatherings for their friends. Typically Sags sing pretty well.

2. I went from keyboard to guitar. There's a transition that happens over time where you go from the more logical piano to the more intuitive guitar. Both instruments are a comfort for me, but guitar gets to being easier particularly if you don't have a piano handy to play.
