THOUGHT AND MERCURY

The most important thing that we do every waking hour lies in our conscious thinking. What we think about the most is what we will be experiencing one day. Thought is energy and your dominant thought creates the very condition that you think about by programming the billions of nerve cells in your brain to work towards that mental image you have in your mind. Each brain cell is equipped with energy to perform your intended purpose. Whether that purpose be for good or ill, it will manifest into physical reality one day provided that your thought has sufficient energy and your thinking is consistent and always directed towards your one specific goal. To think about one thing today, and something else tomorrow is to court failure because you would be diffusing your energies. It is analogous to a carpenter who builds the foundation of his house one day only to destroy it the next by neglecting to maintain his work. The level of success is dependent on the amount and intensity of energy you give to your thought, the subjectivity of your thought (refer to hypnosis and the subconscious mind) and that your thinking be continuously focused on your desire.

The purpose of your thought and quality of your expression (mental energy) is indicated by your mercury placing in your natal chart. Mercury’s position by sign reflects your dominant communication mode - what is the purpose of your conscious thinking and speech, what do you hope to gain from this approach, e.g. mercury in Libra communicates in a gentle charming manner always looking at both sides of a debate before making up his mind, his purpose is to achieve harmony and balance and to be liked by everyone . The quality of Libra’s expression is refined and cultured. He loves beautiful things on all levels - physical, mental, emotional, spiritual. Because he desires beauty and love, his thoughts will tend to think along these lines (we always think the most of what we love), and what he thinks of the most he will become, because the nerve cells always generate energy in the direction of what we think. As Libra is a masculine sign, the direction of his mental energy tends to radiate outwards.

The aspects made to mercury in your birth chart also reveal the trends of your thinking and your mental energy. For example, mercury - neptune aspects indicate a mind that is very impressionable with a vivid imagination. A mercury in cancer will have a tenacious memory and the ability to learn by osmosis; the mental energy absorbs inwards instead of radiating outwards.

The nature and intensity of thought are some of the factors that creates success and failures. The purpose of your thought and quality of your mental expression as signified by mercury in your birthchart may help or hinder your success. Since communication is required for the conveying of ones opinions, it becomes important to consider mercury as the focal point through which all the other planets are expressed (have an afflicted planet? antidotes to afflicted planets can be found in the book “Mental Alchemy - How feelings and thoughts shape our lives” by C.C. Zain).

Here comes the fun part . What’s your mercury placing and aspects, and your most dominant thoughts? What interests you? What inspires you? Any experiences related to your mercury.

Love and harmony combine,
And around our souls intwine.

Hi Marion!

I like everything about Alchemy! Tell more about that book?

My Mercury is in Conjunction with my Sun in Aquarius in House V, Trine with Moon in Libra in House I, and with Jupiter in Gemini in House IX. I'm very metaphysically curious I would say, but quite skeptical.
Does it fit?

Interesting post Marion, it got me THINKING. Being an Aries, with Leo rising and an Aries moon, I have always wondered where a lot of my depression comes from. As a teen I was almost always depressesd, then one of the first things I read from Sun Signs is that Aries never gets depressed, and if so it doesn't last long, but that was not I. So I looked to my Mercury, anyways...

I have Mercury in Pisces/8th house. So it is apparently in it's detirment AND fall (not good?). It conjuncts my Aries Moon also in house 8. It's part of a t-square as it opposes Saturn and squares Neptune, it also trines Uranus.

So I guess you can say my thoughts are really "dreamy." I tend to daydream often and I create scenerios and stuff in my head all the time. I can sometimes become disillusioned. If I had to pick a colour (that's an odd question) that describes my mentality, it would be blue, not because of depression, but because of the "watery" way that my mind tends to work. So yeah, I guess you can say I am interested in metaphysics as well and what have you, as is probably indicated by the aspects. I sometimes like to believe that I am "psychic" because of it's placement and aspects .

This is a good topic, My mercury is in Virgo and the 11th house. It's in conjunction with my Sun, Jupiter, Saturn and Juno. It's also square Neptune. My most dominant thoughts are about helping friends, and society. It usually says that Virgo's are not suppose to get along with Aquarians, but since I was a child I've always had really close friends born under that sign. It seems like if I don't have one in my live for a day, another one comes out of the wood work. I had a friend live with me for 6 months when her dad beat her, and she has moved on and pretty much forgotten about me, but now I have a friend that I've taken under my wing in a sense and I came to find out that they have the same birthday almost to the minute.
My interest's include tattooing, making chainmail armor, music, and landscaping. So I don't know any of those fit my sign but maybe someone else does. I think the color the that describes my mentality is grey, because It seems like my brain is a cloudy mass, but my thoughts seem come out of no where like a lightning storm.

This Site is the best Astrology forum I've ever seen- Thank You Intact

hello everyone,

my mercury is in aries in the 10th house:

conjuncts mars
conjuncts venus pisces
sextiles moon capricorn in the 7th/8th cusp
trines jupiter cancer in the 1st/2nd cusp

my dominant thoughts are into writing and publishing. my interests are non-fiction activities requiring analysis, switching between little details and the big picture, communications, and being able to earn a living by writing.

i am inspired by people who motivate social change by communicating with the public. in particular, scholars who teach and publish their academic work. higher education motivates me too.

mentality color? i am not really sure.

experiences related to my mercury? oh, a lot . . . even before i learned more about astrology. i write poetry when i feel . . . hmm when i *feel*, that's a good enough excuse to write right?

love,

amy

Mercury in Aquarius in the 10th - quintile Venus in Aries in the 1st, sextile Mars and Neptune in Scorpio in the 8th, trine Jupiter and Uranus in Libra in the 7th and 6th, trine Pluto in Virgo in the 6th, sextile Aries Asc, sextile North Node in the 12th.

I have very strong opinions, like intelligent conversation, tend to go to pieces under stress (have noticed this with Mercury in Aquarius) and am interested in *everything*, but especially literature, poetry, art, music, film, television, archeology, ancient history, prehistory, the distant future, travel, science, astrology, health, tarot, numerology, religion, spirituality, philosophy, psychology, relationships, death, the afterlife, the occult, miracles ... and much much more.

I'm a poet, journalist, editor and researcher by trade, and would like to be a spiritual healer.

GEE WILLIKERS! I jump in here tonight and here is all these 'new' folks discussing the fascinating topic.

Most important....WELCOMES to Marion, Intact, Aphrodite and Lulla Mary.....('fraid ya'll will have to share the rainbows as there is a limit on the 'smilies' )

And, Morning Storm, you've seen my chart. Now I know that Mer is in my 12th house of Sag (conjuncting), but as to the rest, I'm not sure. The only thing I can remember is that a 'trine' if four apart and a 'square' is three....opposite number from what it is. So any insight into what Mr. Mercury is telling me

I am in the same boat as the rest of you when it comes to learning astrology... that's not right, I seem to be a long way behind. So I am learning more about placements by reading your aspects in relation to the comments about yourself.

Hmmmm this is going to be another long post, so bear with me if you will

I am sure you are all familiar with Linda Goodman’s “Star Signs”. There is a section where she describes how a soul is physically born. To refresh your minds, I have incorporated her theory with some of my thoughts here.

Our astrological chart in this life is the result of what we did in our previous lives. We came into this life with conditions that were created in our last life or chose to learn specific lessons concerning our evolution. A person who in their previous life was unfeeling and unaware of the effects his actions had on others may choose to incarnate into his next life with a condition for heightened sensitivity, in order for him to learn to be more sensitive. But what causes one person to be more sensitive than the other? This can be answered by the significance of spirit - soul - mind and body. The spirit is the overall self, the real you of you. Before you were physically born the spirit took a part of itself and used it to create a soul and a mind. The soul would be your conscious self and reside with your heart. The mind would consist of three major sections - conscious (mercury), unconscious and subconscious, and placed with the brain. When you are born into a physical body, from the first breath you inhale as an infant, the soul and mind becomes programmed by the energies emanating from the planets at that moment in the heavens. Your physical body becomes programmed likewise. Every atom of your body would reflect these energies. A person who is extremely sensitive will have his soul, mind and body programmed to have lesser density, and probably a weak energy field since he feels everything. A bull-headed person would have a more solid body - atoms more compact so nothing will get through . To summarise, the soul, mind and body gets programmed, but the spirit does not.

Hi there Marigold, this is where mental alchemy comes in - to reprogram the conscious mind; hypnosis - to reprogram the subconscious mind, to get rid of destructive habits and achieve your goals more easily.

What has this got to do with thought and mercury? Once you reprogram your conscious and subconscious mind with what you want, your thoughts tend to follow the direction of your new programming; practise will see that what you sow becomes habitual (this new condition will manifest in your body) and easier to attain what you desire (by creating in yourself what you want, you will attract that very desire - "birds of the same feather flock together"). It is a helpful remedy for a severely afflicted mercury (also the other planets). The mercury placing and aspects will determine the type of energy needed to heal the affliction. And yes it is a very good antidote for depression (hi Blasphemy, I agree with you that a mercury-saturn affliction indicates mental depression, and a severe moon-saturn one emotional depression; I have been told that to remedy an afflicted saturn, all venus and neptune related activities (poetry, drawing etc.) should be cultivated; I am sure you already know this

Marigold, if I talk about alchemy now you’ll never see the end of this post.

Mercury in Scorpio in the 7th House

It is conjuct Neptune, so just like you said I am 'very impressionable'and have a 'vivid imagination', although the Scorpian influence makes me a bit less impressionable, cuz it keeps me 'on guard'. I may appear a bit flaky, but just try and pull one over on me lol. As for the imagination bit, I have beautiful places in my mind that I've created that are very real to me and I frequent there often

it is also square my Moon, trine Uranus and sextile midheaven.

My thoughts are very colored by emotion...to me feelings and thoughts are one in the same. It's hard for me to think objectively sometimes. My beliefs and philosphies come to me through feeling...over-analysis only brings confusion and most of the time I know truth instively through feelings and instincts, instead of through theories or observations.
What most interests me is spirituality and science, especially astrophysics. Like thought and feeling, I believe that science and spirituality are one in the same. all connected. And that as we learn more about the science of our universe, the more potential we have to learn about ourselves.
Why are there black holes? quasars? Each discovery brings us a little bit further to understanding
Ok, enough with my blabbering...see, that darn Neptune made me float off again, he he

-great topic!

Hello Adwen

You have Scorpio rising too? Whoah! hehe My husband has Scorpio rising too and he is an Aries

I was reading recently about Mercury in Scorpio and it said that a quiet demeaner mixed with powerful magnetism can sometimes make people scared or uneasy around you because they think you are hiding secrets or plotting something....I had to giggle, cuz actually I'm very open and honest (Sun Saggitarius), but I'm not as talkative as your average Saggy. So even though I may come off as that way, it is really the opposite of how I really am...did that make sense?
Once my friend's Mother even flat-out said that to me...that I was secretive and she knew I was up to something...and I'm thinking to myself...."geez, lady, I'm just a bit shy...paranoia may destroy ya!"

, oh, and I like to write poetry and draw, so maybe just a wee bit creative. How about you? And what is your sun-sign, if ya don't mind me asking?

Hi Lisa,
I know what you mean about the quiet thing. I'm a Libra, and am naturally talkative. But sometimes I go into these quite deep thinking episodes. It's perfectly normal to me, and how I think, but I can't count the number of times when someone has said the same thing to me, "you look like you're up to something", or "what's wrong, why are you so quiet".
I guess sometimes people just expect others to be a certain way, and when we are more complex (a very scorpio thing ), they get confused.
We love poetry here. If you'd like, you can post some of it on free for all.
I write a little poetry too. And I write music. (music major in school right now)
Even though the scorpio rising and mercury in scorpio can be misunderstood sometimes, I wouldn't trade these placements for the world
Take care,

Adwen

My Mercury is in Virgo in the 6th house. It conjuncts my Sun and Mars, sextiles my Saturn in Scorpio, squares my Uranus in Sagittarius, trines my Neptune in Capricorn, and sextiles my Pluto in Scorpio. I love words with a passion and am very good at using them as a weapon for good and bad, though the power does come out when I don't expect it and blows the intended target away. Could anyone give me a little info as to what these aspects mean?...
Pretty please.

Hi all ~ I haven't posted in a long time!

Great topic.

Mercury in the 10th, in Aries, square the ASC and bi-quintile Neptune, inconjunct Uranus.

When I talk, it's fast and I often trip over some words. I do the same when I'm writing. The mind moves faster than the fingers or the mouth sometimes!

My Mercury is in Leo....6th house...I don't know what the aspects are as far as square or trines...I have a hard time figuring that out...still learning....but..my sun is in Leo 6th house.

I think about artistic things...music..painting..how to make the world better...my place in the whole scheme of things...I feel as though my thought is more influence by my pices placements though...because I daydream a lot...I'm indecisive...and I'm always at odds with myself....

Hey ya'll -

Mercury in the Fourth House
Mercury in Pisces 09°34'31 Rx
Mercury Opposition Jupiter
Mercury Opposition Mars
Mercury Trine Ascendant
Mercury Sextile Venus

My thoughts are usu. pretty nebulous (but maybe that's my 3rd house Moon), but I've noticed that my thinking solidifies nicely in "crisis" situations (although I withdraw given extended stress). I guess I'm creative - people have always gone, "How do you come up w/ this?" when I just go off on a tangent an begin making stuff up.
GB astro.com, this is some of what they say for Jup Opp Merc: For example, your handwriting may be rather hard to read. This kind of sloppiness is the result of going too quickly, trying to take in too much of the world at a time, without digesting any of it. You often see only the general pattern of what's happening around you, without being aware of the details.
And that's so exactly right, as is Mars Opp Merc: If you fly off the handle and get angry, you say things that make no sense. In that case your anger, aggressiveness and even hostility completely destroy your ability to think clearly.

I'm as interested in thoughts as people, and want to see good ideas put to work for the benefit of humanity (but doesn't everyone?).
My most dominant thoughts are probably quasi-philosophical, but they vary so much...and I have to curb that inclination or I'm *gone* to the world for days at a time. Otherwise...hm, I'm on whatever good-natured debate crops up.
But, as the astro.click portrait thing also says, w/ my 4th house Merc I may be a little self-analytical (read: centered); hell, lookit how much I just wrote

Hmmm, Well, I am a Sag Sun with my Mercury in Capricorn located in my 4th House.

My Mercury Squares my Libra Uranus (1st House) and my Aries Moon (7th House), while my moon and uranus oppose eachother (needless to say, there is a bit of a joke on the tip of my tongue when it comes to my moon opposing uranus....sorry....)

What does it all mean? My Capricorn mercury allows me to cut the to chase in conversations in an analyzing documents. I think...lots...maybe too much. They say though, that since it squares my moon, that I am insecure about speaking up, that is not true in the work and business sense, but in emotional relationships, I do come across as being cold one minute to being enthusiastic the next. My thing is that I just like things laid out on the line, forget the hidden agenda.

As for the squaring Uranus. I do know that there are times when Ideas and concepts come to me so quickly that I can hardly explain how I got to the answer only that it's there. Sometimes this doesn't go over with people and I see the "lost" look on their faces, which used to frustrate me. Now, I have learned to slow it down and be a bit more patient.

I have Mercury in Aquarius in the 10th House, conjunct my Sun and Midhaven. It's also part of a Grand Trine with My Ascendant (Gemini) and Pluto (in Libra in the 5th House). It's also: Square Uranus and Sextile Neptune.

I have a lot of friends with Mercury in Aquarius and Sagittarius.
