Can anyone explain to me why Moon is connected to fame? (Like that a 10th house Moon is supposed to put you in front of the public?)

well, Moon in 10th house making you famouse is just a nonsense to me. I know a whole bunch of people with Moon and/or other planets in 10th house and they are not even close to fame. Don`t forget that along with the chart, in order to be famous, you should consider the time factor as well. The wonder of timing the events.

anyhow, i found interesting facts on Celeste Teals article about famous Moons, so - here it is what might make you famous.

Famous Moons
In order to investigate the importance of the Moon’s influence as it relates to popularity and public appeal, the author, using the charts of 150 famous people conducted a research project. The list included actors/actresses, artists, writers, musicians, politicians, sportsmen, and sundry others. Guidelines were kept simple, but because of the rapid speed of the Moon, only those charts were included which had an accurate time of birth. The findings are enlightening!

The first item noted was the zodiac signs of the famous Moons and this appears to be only slightly influential. Out of the 150 charts surveyed, Aquarius topped the list by a small margin. Since the sign is associated with the world at large and group affiliations, the Moon in this sign shows sensitivity to the needs of humanity. Followers come easily when they feel that their own interests are at heart. Individuals with this Moon sign are easily identified with as an essential participant in the group whose support they require. Having the ability to do this means the battle is half won already. This Moon placement also suggest individuals who are able to remain objective. Their emotions are cool and stable.

The remaining signs were fairly evenly divided with two exceptions. The signs Aries and Scorpio held fewer of these Moons than the other signs, by a significant number. One of two things might explain this. Had another 50 or 100 charts been included in the study, the number of Aries and Scorpio Moons might have increased to even out with the remaining signs. Another explanation, which substantiates the earlier Aquarius pattern, is that individuals with these Mars ruled Moons frequently make quick decisions based on their emotions, and follow through with immediate action. While this is an outstanding virtue, even a requirement in some professions, it may not always be appropriate when appealing to the masses. It is difficult to please all of the people all of the time, more especially so when the emotions are involved, and these individuals are emotionally passionate and intense about everything they do.

The house placements of these famous Moons were also fairly evenly divided in the study. Although the angular houses held their fair share of the famous Moons, they did not top the list as one might expect. The most occupied house was the 11th, the natural home of the sign Aquarius.

The dominant feature revealed in this study was the significant number of aspects made by the Moons in the natal horoscopes. The widest allowable orb was used to determine the aspects; 10 degrees for the conjunction, square, trine and opposition, and 6 degrees for the sextile.

The average number of Moon aspects was 3.5. Only major aspects were considered, so this figure would have been considerably higher if the minor aspects were taken. Less than 5% of the charts had only one aspect to the Moon, and in these there were other outstanding features in the charts. These Moons were usually angular, so it appears that an angular Moon can make up for a lack of aspects and adds to its overall prominence. 10% of the charts had six or more aspects to the Moon.

Walt Disney’s Moon was both angular and involved in seven major aspects! Of these, four were squares. The square to Neptune, suggesting a tendency to live in a world of fantasy, was turned to his advantage when he followed up on the appearance of Mickey Mouse in one of his dreams. John Travolta, whose popularity is still soaring, has five Moon aspects of which four are stressful contacts. The square to Mars indicates that he has had some difficulties to overcome in gaining a strong public image, while the sextile to Saturn enabled him to press on in a responsible manner until he succeeded. Madonna’s first house Moon makes only three contacts, but of these, there is a square to Saturn. Her chart shows an opposite theme to Travolta’s, with a trine to Mars and square to Saturn. While it was easy for her to gain a strong public image, she had lessons to learn about being self-seeking in her ambitions.

Very interesting. And since my Moon has loads of aspects I guess I'll soon be tremendously famous.!
BUT...this is not what I meant. What I wanted to ask is why the MOON and not the Sun, or Venus, for that sake, is associated with fame. Because it's such a bright and shining object on the sky? I mean, the Moon otherwise in the chart symbolizes our emotions, or mother, it rules Cancer, our home. What the heck does this object have to do with fame and publicity?
Hope i made myself clear. Thanks again.

Hi Stella,

Fame is a 10th house matter, not a moon matter. Having a 10th house moon will make it prominent and this becomes a public matter. Generally, a 10th house moon knows how to cater to the public, how to please them. However, any angular house containing the moon will act similarly.

I read somewhere that world-wide fame was a 9th house matter. I wish I could remember where because, at the time, it made alot of sense.
I agree that the moon in the 10th gives you an understanding of what the public wants.(I have it there and hope to own my own business someday)Also that it can bring you in the public eye. I do not think that necessarily means fame.(in the world-wide sense) Think about a well known doctor in their field. Unless you had a reason to see this doctor or know someone who did, you might not have ever heard of this person.

Hi Donna, recently I read about Moon/nodes conjuction at www.zodiacal.com/articles/geisler/dragon.htm.
I quote: The north or south node conjuct the Moon itself rates several stars in terms of importance. It always - without exceptions - brings public recognition, notoriety or even outright fame at some point in life...
There must also be a reason that the astrologer in the article that Bissie posted above look at the MOON and no other planet in chart of famous people??!!
Raines, please remember where you read about 9th house Moon! In Placidus my Moon is in 10th, in equal house system in 9th. ))
Anyway, I guess we must talk about "in the public" and not "fame". My former job as a journalist brought me in front of the publicall the time. I've been on tv and in the papers several times for other reasons, but I can't say I've reached fame (Yet! Just wait untill my book is out...).

I too have my moon in the 10th...I have never thought of this placement as guaranteeing fame- but as rather a yearning or desire on the part of the native to attain success in a chosen field...to be recognized by others (i.e. the public) as being sought after in a chosen line of work.

Hi Stella,

The original question dealt only with the Moon, there was no mention of the nodes. Placing the nodes with the Moon gives a different slant to meanings. So that is why the link you posted and the meanings of Moon/node "bringing without exceptions" public recognition. Taking the Moon alone, is not an indicator, but adding different aspects and planets, changes the picture.

The 9th house deals with foreigners, it is the place away from home, therefore, a prominent 9th house would possibly indicate worldwide fame or success away from home.

MercurialMisfit, so true.

I feel we're talking past eachother here, Donna. I mentioned the three exampels above where the planet Moon is somehow connected to fame/public recognition because I've come across this association with the Moon several times - I'm sure I could dig up more exampels for you if I searched for it. I'm trying to increase my understanding of this planet, because what I've grabbed so far is that the Moon deals with our emotional needs. My comments about my own Moon position was meant as a joke, I otherwise completly agree with MercuryMisfit - I believe a 10th house Moon only indicates an emotional need for public recognition while a 9th house Moon will indicate an emotional need for travels and a longing for exotic places (amoung other things). Anyway, you made me dig out my old books an reread stuff I read twenty years ago and had forgotten about...In Allan Oken's Astrology I found what I've searched for: "The Moon absorbs the light and warmth from the rayons of the Sun and give this creative energy form. The Moon is therefore a symbol of everything that is receivable in the human nature. ...The strength or weakness in the Moon's position in the natal chart is very important when it comes to determimate the individuals personal magnetism, fantasy and general thoughts for others."
(I have a horribly translated edition of this book and I somehow got a feeling my translation back to English makes it even worse..)
But this makes anyway sense for me - "fame" is just a reflection, a feedback from other people, your magnetism..(And then the house and sign position will increase or dicrease this effect).

Hi Stella,

I understood your comments about your own moon as a joke.

The Moon alone does not indicate fame. It has to be prominent in the chart, either by aspect, house position, singleton. That is where the connection comes into play.

The Moon is connected to the public, but that does not necessarily mean fame.

So, it has to be a prominent Moon which could place one in the public eye, but the other factors need to be there, something has to trigger it. The Sun rules fame, along with the 10th house. The Moon reflects, absorbs and transmits this back by way of aspect, progression, transit etc.

Your translation is very good.

I hope you don't feel I've been nagging you here, Donna..The years I worked as a journalist thought me to just ask and ask untill I got an answer. Actually, I was driving my teachers at school nuts, as well...not to mention the people I drove crazy to get a satiesfying explanation on the difference on the different house systems..
I find this aspect of the Moon very fascinating..I have this very Cancerian friend, she really is a prototype Cancer - a wonderful caring mother for four kids and a husband, all of them slightly overweight due to her fantastic cooking, not to mention that she feeds them all all the time, always food on the table and cooking on the oven. My friend is very happy and content about her life and I really believe that she is fullfilling her emotional needs here, living out her Moon, so to say...And that makes her a STAR. She won't be famous in the world-fame sense of the world, but all that positive light being reflected back on her makes her glitter and shine like one!

I was just looking at random celebrities' charts with the link that Mercy provided, and I noticed a lot of Leo risings.

Just thought I'd add that.

Hi Stella,

Good heavens, no!! I never thought you were nagging, , just inquisitive, and there is never anything wrong with asking questions. I tend to do that a lot myself. Not here on the forums, but in real life.

In my chart, I happen to have the Moon conjunct Jupiter on the midheaven at 29 degrees Leo. It hasn't made me famous, but it gives me a presence that others see as kind of strong, not knowing that I am a marshmallow on the inside. My Sun is in Cancer.

Oxychick, true, Leo is the sign of the actor and a lot of celebrities will have a prominent Leo in their charts.

Awesome thread, glad Lunargirl took it to the top!

Let's see, I have a heavily aspected moon(5 major aspects), one of which is a conjunction to jupiter, in the 5th house.
Sun in the 9th, which makes an out-of-element trine to that moon/jupiter conjunction.
Saturn trines MC.
And Sun trines Leo Rising.

I'm ready for my photo shoot.

(btw, I do work in the public eye)

Cancer is another sign for actors, Marlon Brando has a lot of Cancer with a Sag rising, it makes you want attention. Tom Cruise is all Cancer, Cancer Sun, Cancer Moon, Cancer Venus.

He worked hard from the bottom up and re invented himself. It's hard work to be famous, nothing else you don't need anything else but the belief in yourself. It doesn't come easy.

I have a lot of recognition but there is a flip side you can always get it with notoriety instead. You have to be willing to put your life on the line and give up your self identity, if you can do that then it's a natural but it's not easy either. People think being famous means being yourself but it's the opposite.

The question is not do you want to be famous but do you want to be remembered?

I read an article a few years ago that more Aries actors have won Oscars than any other sign.

But that was a few years ago, statistics may have changed.

Well, Aries always have to be on top that's for sure. I think there are more Libras and Leos in the public eye at least in the glam world. Water signs seem to run the acting world and there are the directors Earth signs. I see a lot of funny comedians with air signs.

Groucho Marks did a special called This is your Life and on one episode there was a man with 14 children. When asked about it he said, I really like children. Groucho Marks said "yes I like cigars but I like to take it out of my mouth once in a while" I thought that was a good one. I tend to think Libras like Groucho are hilarious so it depends on what you think of as famous. Billie Holiday was famous too in a different way, another Aries.
