MC is the cusp of the 10th house, Soth Node (also Ketu) is in exact opposition to North Node (also Rahu). Just draw your natal chart in any program and you will find out where all your angles/planets/nodes are. Astrocom doesn't indicate SN but it is easy to find it because it's NN exact opposition.

MC - is what we want to be, why people that have Sun on MC are successful in life? because they already have qualities they need to succeed!

ASC - is how others/outer world perceive us, this is how we present ourselves; when it comes to celebrities/politicians or other 'public people' it is their MC sign that shows itself, however, while among their peers, they will act ASC-like not MC-like!

DCS - becomes apparent in one-to-one / intimate relationships.

NN sign - is what we have to develop,
NN house - is how/where we have to develop these qualities.

SN - is what we should be aware of, this is the easiest (not the best though) way for us to escape the problem.

I will describe how nodes and angles work in synastries a bit later, I am busy now

Sorry to have kept you waiting for so long, Neptune's Muse and Aqua

I just wanted to share my point of view on how synastry aspects to angles/nodes can be easily understood/interpreted.

Synastry aspects to ASC show how others make us feel about ourselves in their presence. Whether they’ll make you feel good or bad about yourself depends on the nature of aspects to your ASC (both theirs and yours).

Synastry aspects to DCS tell us how we relate to others, 'what' we are to them.

If someone’s Mars conj your DSC you may demonstrate Arian qualities while you are with this person. Hard aspects will make you aggressive towards him/her, supportive aspects will make you energetic and active.

Synastry aspects to IC:

IC is the deepest part of our charts, it is our ‘not visible’ past and depths. So when someone’s planet conjuncts your IC, they may be from your past lives and/or someone who deeply affects your inner world even psyche (your psychoanalyst for example). The nature of this influence depends upon the planet itself and the nature of natal aspects to the angle in your chart and natal aspects to the planet in their chart.
E.g. You will tend to be serious (+) or feel frustrated or ill at ease (-) with someone whose Saturn falls on your IC.

Synastry aspects to MC

show how others change our life/ career/ social standing and our views on what we want and should to be in life (for better or worse).

example: One of my ex-bosses was a very attractive even handsome young man (33), he was very charismatic, smart and intense, in one word - every woman’s dream.
I liked him from the start as a person and as a boss. I respected him deeply. (Uranus on MC does not eagerly respect authorities eagerly lol).
His Sun conj my Moon and Neptune trine my Venus, Saturn, sextile Pluto.
His Moon trine my ASC and Sun.

And I was very happy to work for that company.

But his Venus and Mars made conjunction to my MC and Uranus (opposition to my Sun, square to Saturn; and opposition to his own Saturn; my Mars conj Venus opposed his Uranus too)so he managed to fall in love with me at first sight (I 'felt' it at once but preferred to ignore the feeling). Actually it was not love but some kind of obsession (Venus conj Mars in Scorpio). It felt like hatred. He was mean and manipulative to me, he glared at me all the time (which made me very nervous), he used to pick at my male colleagues I was friends with so eventually they all stopped taking to me. He tried to make (blackmailed) me initiate the relationship with him so that he will be in total control! I could not let him force me into anything like that.
So 5 months later he finally said: 'I cannot force you to be happy here and if you are not happy, you have to leave! because I CANNOT force you!!!'
He was very good and understanding to other people, they liked him and knew he 'liked' me (he could not even pretend being indifferent to me) and some even made jokes about showing him my pics with other guys from work! (the pics were taken when we were drinking at someone’s birthday party) They thought it would be very funny!
I know he was hurt and unhappy but it wasn’t something I did to him! He did it to us both.
I had to go.
This is how afflicted synastry Venus conj your afflicted MC works! Oh his Saturn conj my Sun and IC! So I was very uptight when he was around.

Nodes

South Node conjunctions make you both feel like: we have always known each other, have not we?
I am sure SN conjunction to a synastry planet or angle is a strongest person-from-your-past-life indicator.

North Node conjunctions probably show what 'new' we have to find / acknowledge in someone. If your NN conj your child’s Mercury, then probably you will have to learn to listen to and 'hear' what your child says and defer to what s/he says.
If it conj her/his Sun, you should learn to see their individuality and respect their self, which for some reason could be very difficult for you to do because NN is usually something 'we’ve never done before'.

Vertex

Vertex is also known as the 5th angle.

(Anti)Vertex conjunction may fill you up with the sense of needing to bring something (or someone) to "completion." You may even find that you simply can't let go of that Vertex person (maybe for years or even decades) until the business between to two of you is finished and/or somehow felt to be complete. There must be some "output" or "outcome" of your relationship. When deep inside we feel we need to change (though we may not be aware of it) the Vertex person comes and works as catalyst.

Synastry Aspects:

Conjunction: energy blending/sharing
Sextile: mutual help
Trine: it goes naturally
Square: irritation, different needs
Quincunx: we are speaking foreign languages (we don’t understand each other)
Opposition: it is all about compromise and mutual respect.

Wow, this is very insightful! I know this is not a synastry question, but what if we Saturn opposite the NN in the natal chart? (Or how would that affect a synastry?)

I always say Saturn conj SN not opposite NN!

quote:
Conjunctions to the Nodes
Any conjunction to a Node will, first and foremost, emphasize the polarity involved. Secondly, the nature of the planet making the conjunction becomes more tied into that polarity. Continuing with the 1st/7th (or Aries/Libra) polarity, if the Sun is making a conjunction, the polarization between Self and Other will revolve much around issues of ego, self-esteem and who gets center stage. If Saturn is making the conjunction, the push/pull of assertion versus accommodation will center on professional questions; issues of who gets to call the shots, dictator tendencies and criticism may be used to push the other person away. Power issues are significant in relationships.

Saturn conjunct South Node: This individual faces a karmic challenge surrounding power, authority and control; this is often connected to a father figure or other intimate authority. They may be dictatorial and overbearing, or fearful of taking charge. They might be insecure regarding their profession or contribution to society. Learning to trust their own strength and to take appropriate responsibility is key to their development.

http://www.lunarliving.org/featured/nodes.html

In synastry the south node person might feel intimidated and surpressed by the saturn person (in case of stressful aspects); or feel deep respect to the saturn person whose authority he (the node person) will never question and even see the saturn person as his 2nd father or some kind of Teacher (in case of supportive aspects).

The Transiting North Node

by Emily Chaya Baumbach
August 27, 2001

For many years I've been watching the North Node as it dances forward, then backwards, swirling around the solar system ballroom and occasionally picking up a planetary partner. What happens when it does a dancing duet?

You probably already know that the North Node indicates an area of growth. Whichever planet it's aspecting from time to time, it will highlight our collective attitudes toward the future. For instance, in early 2002 transiting Uranus will trine the transiting North Node. Uranus is the future, the North Node is the future, and a trine is easy. Also, around the same time pleasure-loving Venus is trine the North Node, and action-loving Mars sextiles the North Node. I imagine that February 2002 will be a great month to get going on our favorite personal projects.

So, what mood is the world in when the transiting North Node dances with the transiting planets?

North Node with Sun:
. Positive aspects: Self-expression is important for a few days. Everybody's busy writing, playing music, thinking about their personal goals.
. Negative aspects: Ego drives are strong, with a "me first" mentality. (In my personal opinion, opposition to NN should be considered not as negative aspect but as conjunction to SN)

North Node with Moon:
. Positive aspects: Planning for future homes and remodeling your current home. News about fertility clinics and fertilization, conception, diets and dairy products, breast health. Looking at where you're going to live when you're an elder.
. Negative aspects: A fleeting moment of ennui, processing old grief, worry about the future, etc.

North Node with Mercury:
. Positive aspects: A lot of energy goes into communications, travel, traffic, cars, telephones, email, snail mail. Everybody's calling up everybody else to chat. A great week for getting yourself organized and making plans.
. Negative aspects: People feel mentally overwhelmed with too much email, information, news, voicemails, mail.

North Node with Venus:
. Positive aspects: People feel like shopping and eating, renting videos and hanging out with their friends doing nothing. Everyone's sensitive to the way their home looks: colors on the wall, furniture placement, wanting nice new things. Lots of new friendships start under North Node with Venus.
. Negative aspects: It's hard to feel pleasure. A potentially frustrating time. Or, people feel like everybody else is wasting their time.

North Node with Mars:
. Positive aspects: A highly active time when everyone is putting their focus on their ambitious goals. People are in the mood for hard work and getting ahead in life. A great month for goal-setting.
. Negative aspects: War (real or symbolic) gets in the way of getting anything done.

North Node with Jupiter:
. Positive aspects: Expansion is on everyone's mind. Big ideas are bubbling and bubbling for all kinds of new work projects, travel to foreign countries, business expansion and financial prosperity. Spiritual teachers and mentors have an effect on the public more than normally.
. Negative aspects: Overspending, overexpanding, overdoing it. Not feeling like working. The energy is pompous and flaccid, like over-expanded bread dough. When Jupiter conjuncts the South Node (opposes the North Node) people from the past tend to show up to offer support.

North Node with Saturn:
. Positive aspects: Nose to the grindstone, shoulder to the wheel. People are in the mood to plan for old age, putting money into their retirement accounts and long-term savings. Fathers and authority figures are highlighted. It's a great time for long-range planning and hard work.
. Negative aspects: The world feels dragged down and heavy. Not a light-hearted aspect. People are reminded of old past karmas, and are made to pay them off.

North Node with Uranus:
. Positive aspects: Fresh new ideas are popping, and the world shimmers with vibrant growth. Everyone's in the mood for revolution and utopia. People are more likely to take big risks and try out new methods.
. Negative aspects: Too much chaos keeps things from running smoothly. This can cause a feeling of inner earthquake in everyone, which can be a bit upsetting.

North Node with Neptune:
. Positive aspects: The world gets really spiritual around this time, hungry for direct experience of the Tao. Everyone gets to look at invisible worlds and deeper more transcendent parts of their being. It's a wonderful time to meditate, go on retreat, spend time at the ocean and hang out with your own inner silence.
. Negative aspects: Nothing seems real, and nobody makes any progress in matters of this world. People come down with immune system illnesses (common cold, flu, infections) and allergies. No one knows what they want to do with their life for a short time. Confusion reigns, martyrdom is rampant.

North Node with Pluto:
. Positive aspects: A deepening of experience occurs during these transits. People are ready to dig down beneath surface "reality." Everyone wants to be told the truth, and everyone lives the truth. The public starts paying attention to vast social issues (crime, poverty, hunger, political injustice) and then takes steps to heal them.
. Negative aspects: Crime, poverty, hunger and political injustice are closer to everyone's doorstep than ever. People get to look at their own Shadow: the part of them they're not proud of, the subpersonalities they project out onto others. Good versus Bad is an issue, and it seems as if the ghosts are all coming out of the closet. Scandals are a possibility, as well as destruction of form through fire, flooding, explosions, warfare, and so forth.

And of course, the South Node is the opposite of the North Node, representing the past. Every time something opposes the North Node, it's also conjuncting the South Node. Planets conjuncting the South Node stir up the karmic soup pot, and lots of old karmic relationships show up. Plus, we get to sift through all of our memories of the past. The two Nodes working together, then, teach us how to proceed toward our future: not by running away from the past, but by learning from the past and inviting it to the next dance party.

Sara - regarding your North Node and Saturn in Aries always hitting with other partner's issues, a point to clarify is that with a South Node in Libra - the tendency is to look at yourself through other people's eyes and now it is important to find your own identity. It is similar for others as well. It is easy to ignore relationships, but the line to walk is to not let go of your Self and your path in relationships. Also look at any retrogrades in your chart as they would be the stumbling blocks left over from the South Node that require the North Node Aries qualities to be added to them before they are resolved. North Node in Aries is great placement for regaining your sense of SELF!!
