There have been some recent posts on the 8th house....and keeping with that, this is one placement I have never understood.

The most common intepretation is a long life, late inheritance, fame, and good "management" skills. But, this doesn't seem very concrete. In some books I have read that this gives the person a "scorpio" feel. I have experienced this (esp. w/ Mars, Saturn, and Pluto in Scorp.)

Do any of you all have alternate interpretations? Experiences with Sun in the 8th house people?

My wife and I both have Sun in the eigth house in our charts by placidus. She is a Scorpio Sun with Leo Moon and Aries Asc. and I am a Cancer Sun with Taurus Moon and Scorpio Asc.

IMO the placement gives an interest in pychological stuff whether or not the person is aware of that or not. So maybe "interest" isn't the right word, but rather the person will have a pre-disposition for understanding human nature and an inborn talent for it REGARDLESS of whether or not they are conciously interested in it.

My boyfriend and i both have our sun in the eighth house which i think is part of the attraction. I do agree that it can lend a scorpio feel to the personality but i think it is not always evident on first glance. After you get to know the person then it starts to show itself more. At least that's how it seems to be with us. The good thing is that there is no lack of passion between us, the bad news is that there is a little bit of a struggle for control in the relationship going on that needs to be worked out. Of course it probably doesn't help that his sun is square pluto and mine is conjunct pluto. But i think that this influence lends intself to staying power and a deeper understanding of people and life which we definetly both have.

beebuddy-
That is interesting-so basically you think there is an inherent understanding of people?
I think I have read that too-some have an an inkling about human motivation too.

suzyque-
I have the Sun square Pluto..I think it is an interesting aspect, but according to www.cafeastrology.com, you'd think it was the end of the world!!

I'm Sun in the Eighth and I don't know whether some of my personality traits could be described as Scorpionic, but I certainly feel things intensely; most people would say I overreact...

Huh so you guys also have Sun squared Pluto in your natal charts? I also have this placement. Do you or did you guys have problems with authority? Or are you paranoid about being toyed with or people playing games with you?

Also, how do you feel about salespeople?

Yes, I do have Sun square Pluto....

on www.cafeastrology.com they give avery interesting (and very truthful) description of this aspect.

I like sales people-when they allow me to tell them that I am not interested. Lol. If not, then, no. I guess not.

I don't realy have problems with authority.
I get along with them (especially professors)although I have never understood why. I don't think they are theatened by me, and I seem eager probably.

I DO hate people telling me what I can and cannot do....and acting like they "know" me or have me all "figured out" by meeting me.

I read in one the books I have that Sun square Pluto is one of those "I want/don't want to be in the spotlight" kind of aspects. They cited actor Al Pacino as an example, saying one wants to be known and have regonition, but wants to be private as well.

I always thought that was interesting.

Some house systems put my Sun in the 8th, but I go with Placidus, which puts it in the 7th. I'm definitely closer to being Libran than Scorpionic, that's for sure.

Lol, that reminds me. The other day one of my friends was bitching about her boyfriend, and she stopped me in the middle of giving her advice to tell me that I should be a couselor. I found that insanely funny.

Hello! I have both my Sun and Moon in the 8th. I noticed that I do have an ongoing interest in astrology, psychology, and giving advice. You see, I am a manic depressive and 5 years ago, I established a support group in the Philippines (the first of its kind there) for people like me with neurobiological disorders, like manic dep, schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, etc. I have struggled with the emotional ups and downs of my disease for more than 10 years now, until my doctor hit on the right combination of psychotropic meds. As a result, I have not had a relapse for more than 5 years now. (Thank Goddess for that!)

With the Sun in the 8th, I'm quite a secretive/private person, atypical of an Aries Sun. Shades of Scorpio, perhaps.

I'm also quite fascinated with other 8th house topics like sex, death (one of my secret ambitions is to be a mortician & establish my own funeral parlor business), shared resources, taxes, and inheritances.

Back to the mundane, I was a former medical student, so that partly explains my interest in mental illnesses, psychology, and related matters. I'm currently a medication manager in a retirement center.

Some sources say that Sun in the 8th promises a financially well-off partner. On the other hand, it may also indicate that you may end up financially supporting your partner! I wouldn't know about these dynamics since I don't have a partner at present. =(

Anyway, that's my take on Sun in the 8th.

Interesting...I'm Sun in Aries, Moon in Pisces, Virgo rising...I also get very natural highs and lows, but I have learned to accept them, channel the energy constructively, and make changes to the way I feel by changing my diet, lifestyle, constantly evaluating and rolling with the punches and telling myself I can be strong, avoiding medication at all costs. I am a strong believer in mind over matter, but then I also realize that I am lucky to be in the kind of position (a free society) where I am able to exercise my free will.

I have Sun OPP Pluto and detest any sort of job where I have to take orders from others. Not good with authority (as I feel I don't need to be patronized and am perfectly capable of being self-regulatory). Good salesperson myself but immune to people trying to sell me something in turn - will buy s/th ONLY if I like it.

Yes, Sun in 8th (in my humble experience) can mean marrying a partner better off financially than oneself, it can ALSO mean having to support them. (No more. Yay!! )

Yeah, jobs are tricky when it comes to authority because you want to respect them, but I hate when the boss is breathing down my neck!

I always come off as if I don't care...but I hate it when people think I cannot do things independently or that I don't know what I am doing. It's such an insult. I do much better in academics than working enviornment.

I think I should have a job where I am the boss....but then, that is too much responsibility and if something goes wrong, it's all on you. You'd think with my Cap sun sign I'd be reveling in this...alas, I do not!

A-ha! I'm learning a lot from the replies to this topic. My sun and jupiter are in the 8th house. Like the person who posted the topic I never really understood the standard description of this aspect.

I wholeheartedly agree that the sun in the 8th gives an insight into human nature. I've always felt I had an ability to see peoples' motives, understand behavior that others don't always understand, etc.

My Jupiter placement may affect that too, of course. I'm just learning this so I'm not sure if Jupiter enhances these qualities or not.

on a negative note,

my scorpio in the 8th sun mother gets angry so easily, and should i say (never loses?). her anger is sometimes irrational. like yesterday, i was in the dining room eating when she had something on the stove, i went to go stir it when i smelled it burning...so i ran to my mom and said what were you doing? and she came out and said well i thought you'd check on it...maybe she assumed i had let it burn on purpose, but i only smelled the smoke when i opened the lid.

anyway...she hasn't been talking to me and does all of my chores. i always get up in the morning and get my siblings ready for school, but today she said she'd do it and told me to go back to bed.

i asked her why she's mad at me...she wouldn't answer.

*hmph*...it's completely irrational that she's getting mad at me over something like this. sometimes it feels like she only likes me for what i do, not for who i am...and it hurts.

I'm a Taurus Sun in 12th, Moon in Scorpio in 6th, Asc. in Cancer. My Mars is in Aqua in 10th.

Her: Scorpio Sun in 8th, Moon in Sagg in 10th, Pisces Asc. Her Mars is in Sagg in 10th.

for the most part...we get along good but it's hard living w/ a scorpio!!! lol

Oooh, interesting topic. I feel like saying, "All of the above."

Sun and Jupiter in Capricorn and the 8th
Sun Square Pluto (in Libra)

quote:
I read in one the books I have that Sun square Pluto is one of those "I want/don't want to be in the spotlight" kind of aspects. They cited actor Al Pacino as an example, saying one wants to be known and have regonition, but wants to be private as well.

That is a very precise description of my nature.

I would attribute my 8th house placements with my desire to delve deeper, to look into different philosophies and astrology. I am very keen on human nature. I'm an excellent listener/observer.

Hopefully one day I can attribute an inheritance to it, too.

It's strange to find so many people with similar placements. My sun is in the 8th (in Cancer), and I have Sun square Pluto. I think my sun being in the eighth house gives me an extreme interest in delving into the unseen/darker sides of life - astrology, mysticism, philosophy, psychology, and religion. I’m fascinated by ghosts and other spiritual phenomenon. I feel that one of my life’s purposes is to solve the riddles of the universe. It’s almost an obsession. I’m also fascinated by human behavior, and have developed a fairly keen sense of empathy over time. I attribute all of these inclinations to my 8th house sun.

As for Sun square Pluto – I think this aspect gives me some fairly potent control issues. I have no problems with authority figures, or sales people, but I tend to feel a bit panicky when I can’t absolutely control the paths of my destiny.

Interesting stuff! Ok now be honest guys, does the interest in psychology and human nature sometimes translate to complete paranoia?

Yes, the Sun in the Eighth house is very similar to the Sun Sign Scorpio. All Scorpio interests/issues etc will apply to the person with the Sun in this house.

For me this really shows in an obession with astrology & other occult (hidden) subjects. Privacy & secrecy to the extreme. Very introverted & difficult to know well. Also holding onto things that a more "casual" person would have let go of long ago.

Whichever house the Sun resides in at the time of birth...is very important. The Sun in the 5th house will give that person a strong "Leo-like" personality. The Sun in the 12th will lend a Piscean influence.

The House placements of the Sun is sometimes described as a "second sun sign." Know it well friends...

sorry if this is off tangent hahhaahah do bear ..

My sun happens to be in the 8 th house in sagitaruis.
Going through another thread here i learnt that such a placement gives a scorpio feel /characteristics like deep intensity in feelings, posseiveness, capability for highest degrees of commitment &loyalty, sensitivity and all..

on introspection i do acknowledge the presence of scorpio traits despite my cheerful funny generous archer that i am hahahah!!!

Now i ve read that scorpio -cancer are a fantastic combo having 5-9 vibrational pattern ....So does my sun in 8 th house makes me more of a scorpio and hence a great pair for a cancer man???? and i have a lot of scorpio in my chart too (mercury, venus & uranus i guess)any thoughts welcome please...i am dying to know !
