Taurus is famous for having the most mellow, warm, rich tone of voice, especially singing voices.

Scorpio asc usually has a husky, smokey voice.

Libras have a measured, sweet tone.

Geminis are nervous talkers...they want to get everything out quickly while its going through their mercurial minds. I've met quite a few Virgos like this, too, but only when they're hyped on caffeine or nerves.

i hate my voice so much.
sometimes i even think if there was one thing i could change about myself (physically) it would be my voice...
its nasal and broken and weak, and i have a really hard time yelling.
i think i may have a blocked throat chakra...
i know this is kinda changing the topic, but is ANYONE here by any chance know much about unblocking chakras? throat specifically...

Kind of a mellow, soothing voice here. I am a Gemini Sun, but I believe its the placement of Mars that rules speech. Then combine Mercury for the expression. So I dont speak very rapidly and vivaciously as most Gems do, maybe owing to my Mars, Mercury, Venus all being in Taurus. Although, I wouldnt say my singing voice is very good - its more of a punishment to those who hear it

Check your Mars placements for speech, mercury for expression of that speech, Im guessing that houses they fall into have influence also. I adore a nice sounding female voice, ABSOLUTELY ADORE! Especially, if they have a foreign accent, drives me crazy.

Oh Lunatic, I practise chakra meditation, are you able to open your throat chakra? (I mean get the tingling sensation there) How does it feel when you breathe with the other chakras?

Ay, confused again Mars is speech and Merc is expression of said speech? How exactly are they differing? For example if one mumbled, would that be attributed to their mars or merc? TY

BTW I sort of agree w/this since mine is softer in tone and I have libra mars, but with my aqua merc I guess im supposed to sound quite rabid..

editing:
This predilection of yours for foreign accents.. Any Sag Jup influences to your Mars Merc then?

Hey Arnicka Well, Mars is speech itself, and Mercury is how thoughts are formulated, so maybe 'expression' is the wrong word? I meant that mercury forumulates and structures, then Mars speaks. Hmm Im talking myself into a dilemma lol Because logic says, that Mars is then the expression, so Mercury could be called the ... 'pre-expression'? Or the structure of that expression?

Yes, I have mercury in the 9th house. And also Sun conj Jupiter/MC, also IC conj Nep in Sag. And the girl Im in love with is a Sag!

Betelgeuse,

You said:

quote:
...Mars is speech itself, and Mercury is how thoughts are formulated...

Mars is not about speech: Mars has to do with how we express ourselves by taking action, while MERCURY has to do with communicating about things. So Mars has to do with doing things, while Mercury has to with talking about it. If someone is "all talk"...take a look and see how strong Mercury is in their chart!

Mercurially,

Tim

Hey Tim,

I was just going on what I had read;

"The planet Mars, in everyone's individual chart, influences or "rules" self-expression. Your speech and actions. Your verbal patterns. These will follow the kind of expression exhibited by the sign in which Mars was located at birth. This doesn't cancel out your Sun Sign personality, Moon Sign emotional attitudes, or your general character involving other planets; it just influences the way you express yourself much of the time. For example, the basic You-of-You doesn't change, but if Mars is in Aries in your individual birth chart, you'll speak and express yourself more forcefully and directly. If Mars is in Pisces in your birth chart, you'll be a mite more soft-spoken and gentle in your expression, perhaps a little more evasive. See?"

Taken from - Relationship Signs, Linda Goodman.

Sorry, it had been so long since I had read it, it took me a while to find which book it was in lol I realise Mercury rules communication, thought processes, ideas etc, but thought then has to manifest itself from the intangible to the tangible. This actual expression/manifestation IS the action. Its the yin into yang so to speak, and I believe this is why Linda linked Mars to expression and speech this way - the Yang activating the Yin, Mars' active principle activating Mercurys intangible imaginative processes.

Hope this helps.

I'm also told I have a "beautiful" speaking/singing voice. It's just smoother, softer I suppose. I have the highest voice in my house. It's not high pitched, it's huskier and steady I guess... I've been told it's very perky...and VERY Loud... haha. I don't mean to be loud, I just have a booming voice.. I guess.

I've got Libra Asc(progressed Scorpio Asc)
Sun/Merc/Venus in Scorpio
Mars in Aquarius
Neptune in the 3rd house

I'm also an extremely fast talker at times, but very precise. I trip over my words a lot..

I read that your venus placement has most to do with you're vocal tone.

I have venus in pisces & I get more "huh?"s than anybody. I have a very soft voice and I tend to mumble..or slur my words.

I know 3 venus in Scorpio guys and they have verrry deep barotone voices. Very sexy, I might add.

alanabelle...my mercury is also in Scorpio and I'm also precise in the way I speak, but it's mainly to preserve my sanity - I'm in travel and talk to people all day long, so they understand what I say the first time, don't like having to repeat myself...I also have a soft speaking voice, people say It's very calming/soothing...my Venus is in Libra. Mars is in Sagittarius...

Laura

edited to add: A virgo woman who sits across from me at work has her mercury in very early Libra, and her voice is very nasal, grates on your nerves type...

I disagree about mars being in charge of speech..I have mars in gemini and I am a slow talker with, like I said, a soft voice.
But it might be just because I'm southern

Also because one of the scorp in venus guys I mentioned has mars in gemini, and he talks slowly with a low tone (When he does talk).

What kind of voice would a cappy have? my mercs in capricorn.

I have noticed that a lot of sagittarians tend to slur a bit when they're trying to make a comic effect, like they're drunk or something.

I think your mercury has the most to do with your voice. A leo and libra I know with a virgo mercury have a whiny, chirpy virgo tone, not a booming leo one or mellow libra voice. A scorpio I know with a sag mercury has a loud, slurry voice thats hard on the ears, and things leave his mouth before being censored by his mind too. I know a gemini with cancer mercury who has a soft, melodious voice, but it still has gemini overtones. I'm a sag but I have a scorpio mercury and I have a deep, but soft voice that carries very far, a jazz voice. People are often surprised to hear me sing because they have no idea that I can, and I can pour emotion into my voice well too.

Thanks for giving me the source of your thoughts! I'm afraid this is one of the reasons why, although I LOVE Linda Goodman's books, I decided not to get Relationship Signs. In looking it over, it seemed to have a LOT of Carolyn Reynolds, the co-author of the book in it.

Let's take a look at this sentence and put in commonly accepted planetary rulers in it and see what comes out:
"The planet Mars, in everyone's individual chart, influences or "rules" self-expression [Sun]. Your speech [Mercury] and actions [Mars]. Your verbal [Mercury] patterns [Mercury]...it just influences the way you express yourself [Sun] much of the time...if Mars...in your individual birth chart, you'll speak [Mercury] and express [Sun]...you'll be a mite more soft-spoken and gentle in your expression [Sun]...See?"

I understand what Carolyn INTENDED to say, but, unfortunately by combining Mars action with a lot of things completely unrelated to Mars she ended with a VERY confusing statement. Perhaps this is why she added "See?" afterward, hoping somebody ELSE could see something in it! In your studies of astrology, you will find that Mars is consistently associated with the actions a person takes. A person with a strong Mars will tend toward taking action in things...and if Mercury is weak in their chart there may be no talking at all! Just all action all the time!

To sum up:
Mars has to do with expressing the energy of who we are and what we do. Mars is about the actions we take in life.

Self-expression is all about the Sun, which wants to continually "shine" its light on everyone (and be seen and admired)

Speech is the domain of Mercury, which is all about how we communicate our thoughts and ideas to others

By combining different planetary energies in the same paragraph, Carolyn has confused what Mars energy is with at least two other chart energies (Sun and Mercury).

Trying to unconfuse things,

Tim

Maybe Mars rules the -body language- part of communication.. while Mercury rules the actual speech.

Hey Tim,

Thanks for explaining that

Are you sure it was all Carolyns work though? Because I'm almost sure I have read something similar in Lindas Sun Signs book also, thats how I first heard about Mars in Taurus influencing a mellow tone.

I was surprised the first time I read it also because I have taken the more tradtional perspective of Mars, just like you. But, obviously from the above posts, many dont see the correlation, so maybe this is something Linda was wrong about, thanks for clearing it up

the voice is ruled by Venus
http://www.astrologyworldonline.com/Les2.html

In the body Venus rules the sensory organs, the throat, neck and voice.
