What do you think, in a person's chart, would point to that person being an empath?
My first thought was to look at Neptune and Chiron. Does anyone else have any thoughts on this? Maybe other asteroids?Thanks! IP: Logged |

My favorite asteroids for mutual Empathy are
Compassion (8990) and Aura (1488).When they conjunct/trine/sextile the Sun, Moon, Venus or Pluto to a 1.5 degree orb, there can be very strong empathy irrespective of other placements. Chiron plays a good part too but I am not sure about Neptune because Neptune is so generational and universal. IP: Logged |

Very strong Neptunian influences would help I think. Conjunctions only. Example:- Neptune conjunct Sun - infuses individuality with a higjly attuned sensitivty.
Neptune conjunct Moon - Emotional sensitivity and attunement
Neptune conjunct Ascendent/Descendent - Depp spiritual connection in our relations with others, great personal awareness of personal emotions.
Neptune conjunct IC -(symbolic of subconscious) and also 4th house ruling cancer, very sensitive area of chart.Neptune in strong aspect with Mercury may indicate 'telepathic' tendencies. Chiron would help us feel others pain, physical, emotional, spiritual. Strong planetary aspects to Chiron would activate its potential. As indeed would a strong house placement, 4th, 8th (the house Chiron comes alive in) or 12th would connect deeply with others.
In this way, Chrion is empathic/compassionate, arousing feeling of selfless compassion to help others. Strong aspects to Pluto or Mercury would enhance telepathic abilities. I actually believe that we are all empathic and telepathic constantly to some degree, yet we do not realise it. We perpetually recieves others thoughts and feelings, though we confuse them with our own, unable to distinguish between them. The aspects mentioned above, and indeed any other aspects mentioned by people, do not give greater skills in empathy or telepathy, I believe we all have equal skill. They simply allow greater sensitivty and awareness of the empathic/telepathic abilities we possess, and therefore enabling us to actualise their potential. IP: Logged |

Everyone does not have 'equal' skill. Potentital to acquire empathy at a higher level-possibly, but definitely not equally.This is no different than being intelligent, artisitic or athletic. People have different skill levels with regards to many things...and that would include empathy. Every person's potential is different...no matter how much training, awareness or education is given...each person has their own individual level of greatness and abilities. Maybe you meant to write that as humans, we are still well below our 'potential' in what our capabilities may actually accomplish. People may have the ability to use empathy or reach deeper to discover it more within themselves but skill levels will always vary. Various reasons for this may include innate blockages within themselves...inability to 'see/feel' others beyond a certain point...no matter how much it is explained to them. Astrology highlights Neptune influences as the highest ability I believe...particularly in aspect to points, Mercury and Moon. Certainly there may be much more... Mostly, all you Pisces/Neptunian influenced people out there certainly have it 'Going On'!  GemStar IP: Logged |

Compassion conjuncts my Moon
(though it isn't a tight orb like you said)
Aura is somewhat near my Pluto. It trines Venus and loosely Neptune.Interestingly, my husbands' ANGEL is conjunct my Mercury exactly.
My ANGEL and HIs Aura are conjunct in Pisces
My AURA and his Pluto conjunct Just some points of interest.... In doing some more comparisons, I noticed my ANGEL is exactly conjunct someone else's Moon... I wonder what that could mean..... Also, his compassion falls on my ascendant
I guess, like other points of synastry, it means similarily what it would mean in a natal chart.. the empathic connection would be strongly felt between people. Yet again, with someone else...their compassion conjuncts my CHiron, my compassion conjuncts their N Node, Their AURA conjuncts my Venus... This is so interesting! I love new tools to play with! Gemstar,The equality lies in the empathic/telepathic channel all open to us. We all recieve the thoughts and feelings of others constantly, the only difference is in our ability to differentiate them from our own thoughts/feelings. However, the channel is a flowing constant, not dependent on individual skills. The 'skills' are then in differentiating our thoughts/feelings from others, and there are possibly various astrological aspects that can assist the process. Some people are more sensitive to this channel, others are not. Knowing ones own thoughts/feelings are also essential, more so for telepathy than empathy. That helps us disntiguish better. So to reiterate, we all have the same receptive channels for recieving empathic/telepathic energies, its only the individuals sensitivity to that receptivity that changes. IP: Logged |

I would say to that empathy is a Pisces trait. I also believe that close aspects to neptune helps also. I have a long term transit going on now and it is Neptune conjunct Mercury and I see ppl almost if they are walking around butt naked..
And that fact that I am a Pisces with 12house moon does not make it better.In a composite chart I have Sun in Pisces with a certain fella and man Can you say TELEPATHIC RELAITONSHIP!!!! IP: Logged |

I have always been a very empathetic person and I am looking at my chart to see what points that out. I think we do all have abilities for empathy but it is interesting to look for what would make it a focal point!
Empathy has been both good and bad for me; growing up it was almost like I had no way to "shield" my aura and I was VERY receptive to any energy, good or bad.
I looked at those suggestions, and I have:
Neptune exactly conjunct the ascendant, which is also conjunct Venus and Ceres; these are all trine my Chiron in the 4th house. Compassion is sextile Mercury and trine Saturn, but doesn't seem to make any other aspects at all. Aura is trine my moon and Mercury. I don't see Angel making any real aspects........ but the synastry thought is fun; I will have to try that out!IP: Logged |

Hi Betelgeuse-Yes, you wrote with much better clarity the second post.
(Keeping in mind that my response was based on what you wrote in your first post: 'I believe everyone has equal skills'...) Absolutely 'Open receptive channels' and 'skills' are two different things. You explained it well!! 
And yes, the 'channels' are open universally for all mankind....however, the empath 'skills' are not distributed equally with everyone. Some people may choose to develop it to a greater level (ideally), some of us have it naturally and others.....well, simply do not have the aptitude. For many, many years, I believed everyone had the 'empath' ability....it was a complete shocker to discover that this was not so! Gemstar,you're definitely right about the Neptune/Pisces influences. I have moon,mercury,neptune in the 12th
moon conjunct neptune
mercury conjunct neptune
venus in pisces
mars in pisces
moon and mercury forming aspects to both neptune and pluto (which are locked in a sextile) and what you've all described really applies to me. I can't stay around a lot of people for too long because their thoughts and feelings get into me and it's an overwhelming experience, feels like there's no boundary between me and them.. especially bad if the person's violent and I'm trying to protect myself. I'm also vegetarian because animal torture seems very cruel from my point of view and have a natural ability to communicate with pets... sometimes better even than communicating with humans. Do you like your moon/mercury-neptune aspects? Do you think of it more as a blessing or a curse, or a little bit of both? IP: Logged |

Hey jkxx-You must remember some of my aspects from that other thread a few months ago! Wow! A Blessing or a curse....well...Ha,ha...as we all know, it is usually a bit of both! However, I would never give this ability up for any amount of money. And with Neptune conjunct my ASC, it will always be a part of me! Absorbing others' energies can certainly be draining...Sometimes shaking the empathic vibes/feelings can be difficult. Whether it is absorbed from another person...a movie scene...an interaction with a stranger...a friend telling you their troubles...it all creates 'feeling' with such intensity (Scorp ASC) that I can feel overwhelmed for quite some time! Happy or sad...anything in the range of emotion!! Crazy when it is someone else's event/happening-Isn't it??!! What do you do when this happens? How do any of you shake it off (other than waiting for it to 'wear' off!! Ha,ha..)? Certainly we all could use a good idea or two !! GemStar

Interesting, Gemstar; I have a Scorpio Ascendant conjunct Neptune, as well. Maybe we are onto something here!I was just reading in an interesting book recommended earlier by IQ to visualize a purple or violet "bubble" around your aura and that you should do that daily to keep your energies from being drained. One thing is for certain, you either have to find a way to block or release negative energy that comes from other people!!
BTW, do people including perfect strangers always tell you their life stories........and are you the "unpaid" counselor for lots of people?? IP: Logged |

...that's me. Strangers, family, and friends alike, sad stories especially. Gemstar, you mentioned the intensely overwhelming feeling associated with it. I have that too (moon/mercury sextile pluto) so yeah, that's probably the good side of it all. For me the only way to deal with it is to wait it out most of the time since you feel powerless to do anything and it doesn't go away with changing physical location. I've tried the bubble trick but the first person to show up will burst it. Hmmm maybe going into a trance/hypnotized state could help?

i am an empath.
i have neptune in the 12th house,sag, conjunct asc. which is sag.i am a pisces sun with jupiter also in pisces,so neptune and sag are in mutual reception.i also have my moon in the 1rst. in cap. neptune and the moon are the focus of two kites. my grand trines are uranus,saturn and merc.( also conj. jupiter) with moon as kite focus, and pluto, venus, mars, with neptune as kite focus.i have a grand cross and a t square as well.i have chiron in the 4th.
my empath abilities are intensly strong, this really affected me as a child .the older i become the better i am able to handle it.one must have healthy habits for this to be benefical instead of destructive.
one technique i learned that helps me ,is to visualize a golden pyramid, walk inside it, close the door, then sit in the center.after you relax try to focus on what YOU are feeling.this really helps distingish boundries that become blurred, as in, is this my anger or someone elses, is this my sorrow or someone elses.i am able to usually know when its me or another but sometimes i can become completely absorbed into another and this helps me to restore balance.this blurring is usually in responce to suffering.i seem to really take on anothers pain.this happens when i read, watch tv, newspaper accounts ,anything.when i watch a movie or read a book that really touches me it can take me days to snap back.as a result i try to limit negative influences.
p.s. i do believe there are people who do not have this ability(although most do to some degree), the pyschopath is a good example.IP: Logged |

1scorp I also have the Moon (in Aqua)sextile Neptune (in Sagi)aspect. I liked that description you got! I definitely have a vivid imagination. My favorite types of movies are Fiction Fantasy and i'm usually walking around in my own Fantasy world hehe  I am also artistic (moreso than inventive). I enjoy taking care of animals very much. People, not so much heh. I have grown up with cats around me and can speak with them very well! Where on astro.com would one find descriptions for the aspects? Although i wouldn't necessarily say that i'm an empath (I am sometimes, when I 'tune in' but it's not my easiest natural gift), I do have some nice Neptune aspects: Neptune in Sagi =
Sextile Sun, Moon, & Pluto.
Trine Saturn.
But, unfortunately for me, Neptune is Squared my Pisces MC (0* orb!) which makes me confoozeled and hazy on what to do for my Labor of Love. As for the asteroids IQH mentioned, the only thing that might be woth mentioning would be:
Angel is in Pisces in my Chart.
Aura is exactly opposite in Virgo, and it's conjunct my Mercury (chart ruler).

Thanks Devilfish! I would like to try the gold pyramid thing. It seems like a good idea to catch yourself and separate the differences in the feelings of others which you absorb and your own feelings.One thing is feeling the other person's ______ feeling and then wrapped together with the other thing-- your OWN reaction and feelings towards the issue/event. Catching yourself in this state of blur after being with someone is the trick! I will know where the feeling came from but sometimes find it difficult to shake off. That pyramid visual is a good one! And yes, usually it would not take long before someone else comes along and a whole new set of vibes are absorbed-the television is a huge cultprit! Especially with tragedies...though happy stories affect me just as easily!! (Too bad there are not more HAPPY stories in the news!!) Cooking shows are nice and neutral!! Ha,ha,ha.... Thanks! I am an empath also...and can relate to the bombardment of feelings and images, especially violent movies I just cannot watch. I've gotten much better at separating my feelings from others' and I just instinctively 'know' what is going on with someone and what they're feeling, but I do need to be in their presence. Animals, I've always had a good rapport with, I can just look at an animal and there's this silent communication in a glance...many times dogs with their owners will strain at the leash as if to say, I want to go home with you! Or cats will run behind and follow me home. I can't walk by a training session going on with dogs, especially if it's a group, because I'll interrupt without meaning to the dogs' concentration on its owner and they'll turn to watch me walk by...(kind of funny actually)My chart, I have Mercury in Scorpio in the 12th and Neptune in Scorpio in the 10th, plus other placements that would count IP: Logged |

So far, it seems like Neptune is very involved in empathy. I know there are other aspects, especially with asteroids that can point out being psychic. I remember Merlin was one of them. IQ, help us out here!IP: Logged |

Hi Hexxie If you go into astro.com and click on astro click portrait, it will give descriptions of your more prominent placements. Just click on any aspect you want... and read away. I have a few aspects that suggest that I have a difficult time seperating myself from others. Which is true. I sometimes get others feelings and emotions confused with my own. I have to make an effort not to allow it. Which can be difficult... as I don't like having to do that with people I care about... and I always think someone can sense the walls going up. I feel it creates a barrier between myself and the other. I generally don't throw up the wall unless the situation is beginning to drain me. I wouldn't trade my empathy, however, it can be by own downfall at times.

In addition to what everyone said above, other astro signs of empath are Moon in water signs. Moon in 1st house.I have Moon Cancer/1st house, Mercury conj. Neptune, Neptune conj Descendant and am an empath. I try the bubble visualization/shielding but it doesn't work much for me. I visualize it once in the morning then I don't think of it for the rest of the day.--I was wondering, do I have to visualize this all day or can I just visualize it around me once or do you have to keep visualizing to renew it?
