A Planet is 10 times more generic and 10 times more powerful than an asteroid.
However, an asteroid is more focused in its attribute for the native. Venus is not going to tell you about a native's specific idea towards true love worth dying for. Valentine would. However, one has to consider the native's Venus too for general feelings towards love and beauty.
Venus in Sag and Valentine in 23 Cancer would be pretty different compared to Venus in Scorpio and Valentine in 23 Cancer.
Ditto for house positions.

The Asteroid person would feel the effects more than the planet person.
Since this is a rare double whammy [assuming birth years are different], you have to consider many other placements and asteroids in synastry. Karma, Isis, Osiris, Eros, Psyche, Amor, Lilith, Juno apart from
Sun, Moon and Ascendant exactly aspecting any asteroid should be studied.

I have an exercise for you, it will give you an idea of how to apply synchronicity in synastry. Goto www.cafeastrology.com and see the Sabian Symbol for degree between 27 and 28 Cancer, your Psyche conjunction. This was the confirmation of your past life love with this guy.

Twin Souls almost always have a Venus-Pluto double whammy. When you have a True Node conjunction to Ascendant and Moon in addition to Valentine + Psyche double whammy and an indication of POF and Vertx, you just have to be twin souls. Also, you both have hurt eahc other in love, hence my first post said this relationship needed other harmonies. There are plenty.
