What you were describing about comparing aspects between two charts is synastry. Synastry readings tell you about the people involved.

I'm still not convinced that determining compatibility with the midpoint method is valid.
does aries + gemini= Taurus
Does Cancer + Virgo =Leo?

Midpoint is just the middle of the distance between points. It's geometry stuff.

If I feel what you're askin' correct, perhaps I better not try "to understand the reasoning" behind the particular mid-point method used by default in the option you chose in astro.com.

Perhaps this particular Composite method can be considered analogous to how two people come together in a relationship, assuming they have a meeting point at all. If they meet in the middle, you get this Composite.

Since each Natal person must loosen up on their connection with their own Chart's needs in order to step out of themselves and meet the other "half-way", this sense of suspension becomes a gray area consisting of a little Yin and a little Yang. The new energy, which ideally helps lift them both to a new transcendental level, can be thought of as the 3rd entity known as the mid-point Composite.

Say a Cancer and Taurus need to act like a Geminii together? but then what if that midpoint is sqared another midpoint, then do you subconsciously decide not to use the energy of that squared midpoint and rely on his or her trine that would occur in synastry???

I haven't bought into this method yet because it doesn't make sense! Again someone please explain!!!and I'll change my view

There's a couple of things to consider. One is, know your basics. Really know your basics. Take a few less astrological instances in mind. Learn your basics and then apply them to everyday life. Test them, feel them, understand them, recognize them in your surroundings, in yourself.

You know how sometimes we come up with crazy questions we try to apply what we know to? We are exercising our basics. What one astro student notices might be completely overlooked by another. Do you think astrology would have lasted this long if that were that?

Don't be afraid to introduce exercises you want to try, and you might want others to participate in as well. This is one way to learn.

Consider yourself lucky, lots of people out there are being told the Moon was really made of cheese all this time, and they're believing it.

There are lot of interpretations and approaches to the POF. I just mentioned some tips within the following thread which may be helpful.

At first, it may seem as if the lesser known Bodies/Points would have more to-the-point meanings attached to them. But more often than not, it seems that the lesser known or "smaller" Bodies/Points are the MOST vague.

I experienced frustration with this because in the back of my mind I'm wondering if it still might be important enough to explore and define. So far, I've noticed that these Bodies/Points tend to support what the more commonly known, or "larger" Bodies/Points are already saying, a useful approach when I find myself in a mental pretzel.

I've found this to be true as we journey through the study of Asteroids/Planetoids as well.
