Can anyone tell me what are some signs or placements in a birth chart that can indicate problems with depression and self-worth ?

I tried to use the search function to seek previous topics that deal with this, but the search function didn't work for me.

Thank you.

First thing that pops into mind is 12TH HOUSE. For sure. 12th house covers all sorrow, psychological 'problems', isolation, etc... but when thinking of cold, grey, grounded depression as opposed to in-the-haze-lost-and-alone-and-confused-sorrow, I think Saturn.
In terms of self-worth issues I think Neptune.. heavy Nep influence kind of obscures the whole sense of Self...

I agree with what you said about saturn, neptune and the 12th house.
I think also that personal planets that are harshly aspected by saturn can be more prone to depression such as...
*Saturn opposed, square or conjunct the sun, moon, mercury, venus. (Especially moon/venus)
You have to take into account the whole chart of a person and even then there is free will.(How a person 'uses' their chart)

Chiron in taurus or the 2nd house could be of influence also.

Taurus and the 2nd house is about valuing and appreciating self and body on an important basic level, and being able to sustain oneself. It's one of the foundations for the rest of the signs and the chart. A lot of people attribute it to outward income or money, but it starts first at the inner level of self-worth and value.

I have Chiron in Taurus, capricorn on the 2nd house cusp, and had damage around those issues and this has been a path of mine for healing.

Of course I am sure there are other placements too, and many different ways to express self-worth but that one has been my field of experience.

I'm probably being a pain in the ass right now, but I just want to say to you, that there are people out there that love you. There is a world out there that is yours to conquer.

Sometimes the external world can go inside of you and make everything seem hopeless until you believe you are hopeless.

I just want to extend these words out to you because I've suffered with these feelings for a long time, but now that I'm getting help, I'm feeling a lot better. I want the same for you.

And in regards to astrology, I'm very 12th house, 4th quadrant oriented.

Neon,
very interesting about the Taurus/2nd house and self-worth issues. I never thought about it that way. I have virgo on the 2nd house cusp, and jupiter in taurus... i wonder how that affects my self-worth/esteem issues. hmm.

Self worth is a 2nd house issue...
look at your second - what is on the cusp and any planets involved..
hard aspects between Venus and Saturn are common.
Saturn afflicted?
I have dealt with this my whole life
As i have Venus Virgo rx quincunx Saturn in Aries rx..Both in their fall and retrograde.. But as was mentioned, free will and working at it...you are loved and you can rise above it

Here is a discussion in progress on Depression... a very good source of info.. and an excellent read... http://www.linda-goodman.com/ubb/Forum1/HTML/013440.html

Hey guys, Chiron in Taurus doesn't mean you're doomed forever (contrary to the popular explanations about Chiron "always wounded") Just that it is your path of healing - I'd say Chiron in Taurus is an indication that you *will* heal those issues effected there, so it's really quite positive. The wound is the first part of the journey, the healing the other part, and there are many parts in between. We're all going to heal in this area and be "mavericks", it's just a matter of time and intention. Deep and true healing takes time and is well worth the effort.

Not to get off the subject, but if Chiron in Taurus is sort of like healing yourself due to wounds around your image or esteem, than synastrically speaking -- anyone who touches your Chiron will be apart of healing you? Or is it the other way around. txs

I think it depends on where you are in the process - some might bring your wounds to the surface and make you aware of them, (which feels like they gave them to you, but they were always there) others might be a part of your healing process, perhaps some a combination of both.

Moon in Virgo, 2nd house. Constant, nagging self criticism, second guessing, and self doubt have been lifelong friends of mine. Self esteem issues?? Yes, just a few, but it's getting better.

We do have choice - listen to the voice telling you you'll never be worth anything, or tell it "HEY, just shut the #$@% up - I have better things to think about myself!

Give yourself the love you would offer to a friend who was constantly berating herself - you'd never allow someone you care about to talk about themselves that way, so give yourself the pep talk you'd offer a beloved friend. It does work. I believe we create what we dwell on - if it's that we're nothing, we'll BE nothing in our own minds.

Calliope, I'll be thinking about you and wishing you positive, loving thoughts about yourself.

QUOTE:What about Saturn conjunct Sun or Saturn in the first house?

--THe sun is a somewhat 'stronger' than the moon or venus for example so it is less likely to to be the cause of depression than say a venus opposed saturn aspect.
--It is more likely to influence ones overall character/identity, for eg. An Aries sun conjunct Saturn in Aries could make the normally rebellious, free flying aries alot more conservative and responsible than most other aries..It depends on ones star sign alot too..Saturn in Aries is in its fall here and there is more likely a chance of this 'restricted' feeling causeing distress/depression to an aries sun..Whereas if the sign is in Virgo the energy would be alot easier to deal with..
Hope all that made sense to someone out there..
Saturn in the first house -- I would not say that this is a depressive position. Depending on aspects to saturn and how close it is to the ASC can change the meaning of it there. Often, these people can be quite shy in the way they express themselves..

They might feel that thee is an invisible wall around them making it hard for them to jump around in circles with "FREEDOM OF SELF EXPRESSION" written all over them. Saturn is concerned about what others think of them here. Of course not all saturn in 1sts are like this, those with jupiter, sag, uranus etc will be less careful with their self expression. So anyway, its those reasons which may make the saturn person feel abit depressive...because they may take themselves abit too seriously sometimes.

Thank you lalalinda for the welcome and Lynx for the kind thoughts.

I have a huge stellium in the 2nd house (including the sun)and they all form oppositions to chiron in taurus in the 8th house. I also have a saturn-pluto conjuction in the 1st house, conjunting the ascendant.

Can anyone tell me how they will likely manifest?

Astrologically, I guess I'm screwed.

Moondreamer81,

Anything is possible

Calioppe,

No one is screwed unless they believe they are. Your placements could bring you enormous gifts or be a curse, it's up to you. We always have everything we need in a chart to balance it out. (hugs if okay.)
