Is there anything info on this? I mean if your baby is born during Mercury Retrograde then will the child have communication problems, or is there any astrolical effect that I should be concerned about?

A retrograde planet is a "do-over," and it's nice to have a second chance...

Mercury retrograde indicates a person who will think before speaking, and consider all possibilities before taking action. A person with MercuryR may feel "out-of-synch" with the way others think, and they may be reluctant to "speak up." They would be very in-touch with their mind, know their thoughts well, and be instrospective. They might seem hesitant when communicating because they do take time to think (kinda rare for people to do that!).

A retrograde planet "internalizes" itself - you would want to look at the sign and house Mercury is in to see in what area and in what manner this will play out. Also, the aspects to Mercury in the chart will be important.

Well, that is a bit of a relief..Whew! I began to think about it and got a bit worried that it would have a negative effect. Well, when she gets here, maybe I could get some help looking at her chart? I just have general knowledge and I want to learn more and be just as educated as everyone else, I just don't know where to start. But I BELIEVE in astrology, I know it is truth, I have since I was first introduced.

Many times I don't understand when everyone is talking about degrees and saying I have Gemini in more than one house for example, I thought you had one planet in one house? and other simple things like that. There are not many informative books at my local library on astrology but I have read all of Linda's books, they just don't explain the specifics...

Have you asked Randall for admission to the Astrology Courses thread here? There is an "Attn Randall" thread here somewhere... and you just add your request there. Tim moderates it, and his informational posts are exceptionally clear.

I recommend Secrets from a Stargazers Notebook for people new to astrology. It's entertaining, and there are sections that vary in difficulty, so you can read all the "easy" stuff and then digest it and then move on.

Also, this thread discusses recommended books for beginners: http://www.linda-goodman.com/ubb/Forum1/HTML/000659.html

For your Gemini, perhaps you have two or more planets in Gemini, and they are in different houses? That could be where the confusion is. If you post your chart, I'm sure you could get some feedback on it.

Retro Merc is actually not that bad, it makes a native think twice before doing anything.

Her Due date is 7/07/07, :-) ~ I heard on the radio the other day that this date has the most planned weddings to take place ~ It is a Saturday, but I will have to have a C-section since I had an emergency CS with my son who is 21/2. So.. I had to schedule a date and I chose July 6, but I feel like she will come before that. I had an ultrasound yesterday and they said she was already 61/2 pounds and I have a whole month to go!

I have also read that when you have surgery, it's not good to have it done during Mercury Rx, 5 days before or after a full moon (June 30), or when the moon in transiting through the sign that rules the body part you are having surgery on....

I don't know about the moon transitting through, oh - what would it be Scorpio ?- since Scorpio rules the reproductive organs, but the chances of the first two are pretty high ~ I cannot help but be a little worried...

Sometimes I wonder if this is a Karma thing too for some reason. Like, being born during this time has some special Karmic duty for her..Thank you guys for replying, I will try to get into those classes, *hugs*

Hey guys, I just discovered my son was born during a Mercury Rx too! according to his chart on astro.com, Unless I have her in a week I am a bit freaked out that I will probably have TWO children who are born during this time.. He was a bit late talking, but now he doesn't stop...

I wished I would have known this all along, Would someone mind looking at HIS chart for me please? I have tried to post charts on here and I cannot get it to work,
His Birthday is December 7, 2004 born at 6:23 a.m. in Dyersburg, TN. Dyer county, thanks in advance, ~ phoenix1111

I have Merc rx in Cancer.. it's in my 8th house. My thoughts are tied to emotion. what was said about Mercury Rx fits me well.

There is nothing to worry about. I have an excellent memory. My friend calls me all the time to tell her when something happened. Or where something might be. It's a joke between us.. she knows when something is going on i'll know when, where and whatever else. She could of told me in passing. I do have a tough time speaking up. But I really think about my decisions. I sort them out on my own. Before I say anything or take the leap.

One thing I remember reading that is a blessing, Phoenix...if you're born during a Mercury Rx, then when Mercury retrogrades during your life, it doesn't seem to have the same negative effects on you as it may on others!

That's certainly true. I couldn't care less about "OMG MERCURY RETROGRADE" because things are the same for me- no better, no worse.

I do not have Mercury in retorgrade, but I do have Mercury placed in my 12th house. I have read that Mercury in the 12th house manifests itself similarly to Mercury in retrograde, so I am not quite sure if this will help or not.

I have read that Mercury in the 12th house can indicate learning difficulties or communication difficulties. I did not have any learning difficulties growing up, but to a certain extent, I do suppose that I had and still have some communication difficulties. Not that I have problems communicating, just that it seems to require a great deal of effort to do so. As it has been said, I do "think before I speak", but invariably, I believe that I may think too much before I speak. I generally play out what I am going to say, how I am going to say it, what is the most correct way to say it, what is the most effecient way to say it, what is the most understandable way to say it, what is the best word to describe that (not that, oh there it is), yada-yada-yada... By the time that is all said and done, it seems I do some sort of final "cost / benefit" analysis to attempt to determine whether the whole things is worth the effort of that entire process vs how important the issue was, the time and energy it would take me to explain it va how much I car about the issue given the effort I would have to put forth explaining it, the time and energy it would take for others to listen / read it vs how much the person would actually care about the response given the effort they would have to put forth. In the end, I generally come to the conclusion that it is just not THAT important and am content to leave my thoughts to myself.

That being said, it does seem to be less of an effort when I am describing something that I am passionate about (both in the concept of "dreams" and Mars / Scorpio like passions). But, that may be because my Mercury is conjunct my Neptune and Mars,or perhaps all of the Scorpio influences in my chart.

I do find that I communicate a lot easier by writing things down, than speaking them. Instead of having to formulate the perfect "way" before speaking, I have the opportunity to "speak" as I think and also revise before "submitting" it to the person(s). Instead of having to think about absolutely everything first, I have the ability to think directly into words, but with the freedom of not having to worry about someone responding / making their minds up before I find the correct way to explain my thought process. I can pause without interruptions, I can erase the last sentence I typed because it just came out with the wrong connotation without coloring their reaction with something I never intended in the first place, and I can revisit it and remove superfluous information that just confuses the issue or add needed information that was not covered properly before those issues could further confuse the issue. But, even that, sometimes seems like more effort than the topic at hand justifies...

I can have a million conversations in my head, and in the end, less than 1% ever make it out. But, it doesn't bother me so much. It is my choice.

I do find that on a personal level, with friends, I am rather glib. Quite, actually. But, that probably has a lot to do with my Moon in Gemini. When I am with friends, I feel a lot more "free" communication wise. Most of what we talk about doesn't warrant such perfection in communication. And with the topics to do get deep, I feel a security in knowing that my friends know me and will give me the opportunity to get my point across to the degree that I am comfortable with.

Well, anyway, I don't know how much is applicable to Mercury in retrograde, but I thought it might give some possible insight on one person's perspective.

Good luck with your last month and many well wishes for a beautiful, healthy, and absolutely perfect baby!

While I don't have Mercury in retrograde, I do have Venus in retrograde. From what I have read, retrograde indicate that the concept is "internalized", which really didn't tell me much. Most of the interpretations I have read, though, seem to indicate that the major issue with Venus in retrograde people revolves around the concept of self-love. Apparently, if I understand it correctly, many people with this retrograde seek in their relationships something to take the place of a lacking self-love. But, the catch-22, so to speak, would be that they need to find self-love before they can truly find love in a relationship with another person.

Though, perhaps I have misunderstood. Someone better at astrology might be able to offer a more sound explanation.

Thanks everyone for your replys, I am learning as we go along. I have gone over my family's charts and looked at the planets that are retrograde, and what they mean.. I have chiron retro, whatever that means, but my son, and husband have multiple plantets Rx. He does have Venus Rx, and I do think I read that the main issue with it was self-love.

Thanks Alcheme for your good wishes, they are appreciated. I also enjoyed reading how you think and the process, I felt like by you sharing that I can better understand what my child may be going through and to give him time when thinking about his answers..and to be patient. This has definatly changed the way I approach him on trying to teach day to day things :-)

Could anyone take the time to glance at his chart for me please? The info is above. Thanks

For example, His Sun, Asc. and Mercury are in Sagittarius.. If Mercury is Rx, how does this compare with his Sun and Asc being in the same sign?

Your son seems to have some similar placements to my own, so I may be able to help a little bit (atleast from a personal perspective). I am about to head home from work, so I will respond when I get there.

Okay, sorry for my delayed response. I have looked at your son's chart, and as I said, it would seem we have some similar placements.

First, being Mercury itself. My Mercury is in my 12th house in Sag, and his is in retrograde in Sag. But, as you mentioned, his Sun is in Sag (as is his Asc) and mine is in Scorpio. That being said, I wonder, with your son's Mercury being in the 1st house (self) and being retrograde (inner) if perhaps that could manifest itself similarly to having Scorpio influences...contemplation about the self (something I do on a regular basis, and have done as a child, to perhaps a disturbing degree, lol).

I found the original article that I read about having Mercury in the 12th house, if you are interested: http://www.donmc.com/mercuryin12th.htm

And the article they have regarding Mercury in retrograde in a natal chart: http://www.donmc.com/mercRxnatalchart.htm

I also noticed that your son had a Saturn in the 8th house, as do I. I have read that this is thought to be the hardest Saturn house placement. It will make him rather reliable with other people's money, but it also has a great possibility of manifesting itself in intimacy issues. That being said, while I had a hard time coming to terms with my Saturn, in retrospect I am happy with my Saturn placement. Saturn has a way of making you face issues and grow from them, and I would rather that than the alternative.

I have found that the following site offers a very detailed chart (with good insights on Saturn in the 8th house). I was not to impressed with "their" interpretations, but getting past the planet in sign interpretations, it goes into the house placements and aspects and also offers very detailed "alternative" interpretations that I found to be very impressive. Let me warn you, the interpretations are DETAILED! LOL... I have yet to be able to finish reading mine. It is huge, but awesome. http://star2star.info/chart_paid/chart_data.php

Also like your son, the vast majority of my planets are in fire and water signs. And, again like your son, all my personal planets but my moon are in Scorpio and Sag (for me, Scorp Sun and Venus with Sag Mercury and Mars). Both of us also have air moons (mine being in Gemini and his in Libra). This could be one of the ways that his Mercury in retrograde manifests itself. Having very passionate Sun, Mercury, Mars, and Venus combined with a very objective / unemotional Moon (emotional / inner self) can be a confusing "discrepancy"... LOL! I have spent inordinate amounts of time analyzing my own feelings (as well as others). Why do I do what I do, what does that mean, what do I truly want, what do I truly need, etc... I do find that attempting to communicate my feelings is my greatest source of frustrations.

But, where my Moon is in the happy go lucky sign of Gemini, his is in Libra. Do not take the superficial Libra stereotypes fool you. Yes, they do love balance and harmony, but they are a cardinal sign and one that believes rather adamantly in their ideals. Something setting off one of those, you will find that most are not the wimpy, compromising type that many sites describe them to be. Needless to say, with all that Sag, Scorpio, and a Libra Moon, one of the things you can rest assured will spark his fires will be concepts of fairness and justice.

With his Venus and Mars being in a water sign and a water house (especially the imaginative and creative one of the 12th house) and his Moon being in Libra, you can more than likely count on him be very eloquent when he does speak. Gemini's may be great with word and witty, but no one can lay it out as beautifully as a Libra. Given that his Sun is in Sag, his more social, easy-going Moon will more than likely be very compatible with his overall self.

With all that Sag and Scorpio in his personal planets, I would guess that you are going to have a rather willful and energetic child. It may be helpful to get him into some physical activity, perhaps martial arts. The discipline and dedication may appeal to his willful Mars, and if it is one that teaches spiritual aspects, the spiritual side would probably appeal to his Sag Sun and Mercury. Given that his Moon is in Libra, perhaps one focusing on harmony and balance or one that is one of the more beautiful art forms would appeal to him on that level. My bf has a Libra Sun and Moon, and his been practicing martial arts his whole life and loves it.

I know quite a few Sag Sun people (mother, maternal grandmother, paternal grandfather, and a few friends), and they all seem to not only have an interest in photography, but also a great skill with it. It may be something that you may want to let him try as a hobby when he gets older. It may give him an another outlet for expression beyond just words to compensate for his Mercury in retrograde.

That is all I can offer. These are just personal insights, not real astrological advice... Someone else may be able to offer a real interpretation of you son's chart. I did notice that he seemed to have very few hard aspects in his chart, which I think would be considered good. I think that he is going to grow up to be a very fine man, but I may be biased since his personal planet consist of my 3 favorite signs... LOL!

Thank you very much alcheme for your insight, that was very nice of you to take your time to help :-) *hugs*

I think it is ironic that you suggested the martial arts, lol because he likes all the star wars and he pretends he is a jedi with the lightsaber and all..He is pretty good too, very coordinated. I have decided to get him lessons as soon as he is old enough. You just confirmed my idea from an astroligical outlook! He is very energectic ~ doesn't like to sit still very long, happier when he has somewhere to go ~ like his mother, lol.

I was very involved in athletics when I was younger and plan on that for him too if he is interested The main thing I was concerned about is his ability to communicate and listen, learn etc.. But I have noticed too that his memory is wonderful, just things you wouldn't think a 2 year old would remember!
Thanks again for your help and advice, phoenix
