I got a friend like this..
She's the shyest Leo i've ever met. Not into public speaking at all. But she's very creative and artistic.

alma_pisces, perhaps....?
I'm thinking choosing to be the fish is a pretty clear indication to steer clear of cats, LOL!

We have a little pond we've built and stocked with fish, in the last week 7 or so fish have jumped out. At first I Wondered if local stray cats were pulling them out. Nope. It seems these silly fish just think they can fly. As soon as they actually escape [pisces specialty ] they are unable to breath... It's sad really.

There's a spiritual lesson there I'm certain

Dulce Luna... I see you're adding to your list...

Xodian, I'm curious is this distaste for needles in general or just the syringe sort?

Then heights I am terrified of that too.

It disturbs me a bit that people use phobia as a synonym to plain fear. I know it probably sounds cooler, but it doens't mean the exactly same. People who really have difficult phobias have hard time explaining others about it, because they don't understand as they think it is just some normal small fear of something that we all have.

From wikipedia:
"A phobia is an irrational, persistent fear of certain situations, objects, activities, or persons. The main symptom of this disorder is the excessive, unreasonable desire to avoid the feared subject. When the fear is beyond one's control, or if the fear is interfering with daily life, then a diagnosis under one of the anxiety disorders can be made."

"Phobias are the most common form of anxiety disorders. An American study by the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) found that between 8.7% and 18.1% of Americans suffer from phobias. [2] Broken down by age and gender, the study found that phobias were the most common mental illness among women in all age groups and the second most common illness among men older than 25."

Sorry I had to complain a bit about it. I've personally suffered from apiphobia/spheksophobia, and of course no one understood it. Luckily I've gotten a bit over it as I've gotten older, but I'm still afraid of those evil creatures, and avoid situations where I'd have to be near them. I'll rather keep my window closed on a hot summer day, than risk having one of those flying in. I've also quite recently found out that I'm also allergic to the poison, so I also have "a real reason" to avoid being stung as well, it helps with other people at least.

I cannot stand to look at a snake, even photos, makes my toes curl. The height thing, standing unprotected on the edge of something high up. Once went to this huge dam somewhere as a child and my parents said ooh, look over the edge. I couldn't even go anywhere near the edge, made me dizzy. Love to fly, elevators all the other stuff tho, Empire State Building & Sears Tower are cool, been to both.

Its more of a general thing which usually shocks people since I am a regular at the blood donation clinic Lol!

That is why I don't classify it as a phobia since as per Missa's defination, its not an unreasonable or erratic fear;

I think it was just a situational meeting with Nurse Xenya the sadist that has me all kinda itchy around needles Lol!

Xodian: Nurse.... Why do you have that sadistic grin on your face?

Xenya: *Russian Accent* Because I am going to enjoy seeing the pain on your face when I jab it slowly up your arm.

Xodian: Sooo... I am suspecting that you have salt ready as well to throw on the arm as well?

Xenya: Da Comrade.

afroken: About that overwhelming fear of surgery...yeah the recent one I just had on my buttock (well, technically it was more on my spine, above my last vertebrae to be exact). Guess what? I have fourteen painful stitches now as a reminder of the excruciating pain I was spared thanks to anesthesia and which I must endure for the next month or so (sorry; just felt I needed to announce that to the whole forum).

alma_pisces: I'm a leo rising and I just adore cats, but don't have any currently : :. Before living with my dad, I had lots of cats running around my house (good ol' childhood days) but now that I'm back with him, kitties are all gone. He's allergic (and so's Gran). End of story (Or is it? Yeah, I'll just grow up into the bitter old lady who lives alone in a big house overrun with cats.).

Alright, my phobia = pretty pathetic: worms, maggots, anything that wiggles and squirms in such a manner (you name it). Which reminds me, RainbowDay, I absolutely loathe moths (and butterflies) because of their larvae - UGH! - If I see any moths floating around anywhere in the house, near clothes...I freak out! I recall witnessing some repugnant maggot infestation scene of rice in some storage chamber or something when I was five. I believe that must have scarred me for life and immediately staunched my appetite, momentarily, because I couldn't eat for a week after that..couldn't stand the sight of rice, either, anyway.
Oh yes, and just as despicable is the possibility of harboring some nasty parasite(s) in my intestines, or liver, etc. like tapeworms, flukes..I'm not too eager about walking barefoot outside anymore...

Xodian, you have a twisted sense of humor.
[I like that... ]

I was absolutely terrified of needles of any sort until about 3 years ago. At this time I was forced to endure and observe these on a regular basis.
My daughter was born three months premature and lived in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit for several months. She was hooked up to more needles and tubes than you could ever imagine. By 4 weeks old she had already had two different blood transfussions.
I learned to hold her and nurture her under these intense conditions. Kind of made it impossible for me to fear the very things helping to sustain her life.

BroodingMooodlin -maggots are icky icky ewwwww! The Rice comparison makes my tummy ill too. I think that maybe this is a healthy fear rather than a phobia, LOL!

aqua inferno -I love how in tune you seem to be with yourself! Your answers were very well categorized with placements and aspects in your natal chart. I'm impressed with the thought you've put into these posts. So a gold star to you!

heee...heee...

Sendin' love your way,
