It disturbs me a bit that people use phobia as a synonym to plain fear. I know it probably sounds cooler, but it doens't mean the exactly same. People who really have difficult phobias have hard time explaining others about it, because they don't understand as they think it is just some normal small fear of something that we all have.

I agree, but some things listed in this thread do sound like phobias. I have the same issue with ladders as my Grandmother did. I tried to overcome this fear of them several times. I managed to get up but not back down, and forget trying to get from say a roof to the ladder. Absolutely friggin not!!

Heights
Deep water
Rats/mice
Cockroaches and their ilk
Automobile accidents (I've had two which have shaken me up and psyched me out, and I didn't drive for 9 years after the first)

I'm sure I could think of some more. I'm a very phobic person, although I'm not afraid of death, just the pain before death!

Needles!! And other things designed to pierce/break skin.. funny thing is that I have both a tattoo and a piercing, and neither one was really a problem. But I still hate having blood drawn or getting shots.. No, not just hate, I get nearly hysterical... hyperventilating, crying, cold sweat, woozy, dizzy...

I have phobias mainly related to history of speech,auditory processing,visual processing,coordination,sensory integration problems stemming from my Dyslexia,Dyspraxia.

I also have fear of bugs

phobias can be stemming from inner problems
I do have diagnosed inner ear disorder

my indicators

the opposition of retrograde Saturn in Gemini in 9th and Jupiter-Neptune in Sagittarius in 3rd square Moon in Pisces.

Saturn contraparallel Mercury-Venus-Neptune parallel

The inner-ear origin of fears, phobias, mood, panic, and obsessive/compulsive disorders was discovered by "accident." Patients with dyslexia or ADD responding favorably to inner-ear-improving medications reported to Dr. Levinson that their fears, phobias, mood, and anxiety symptoms either significantly improved or disappeared as did their dyslexic and ADD symptoms.

Eventually, Dr. Levinson demonstrated inner-ear mechanisms responsible for the following fears, phobias, etc.:

* Heights
* Needles or knives
* Flying or driving
* Snakes, mice or bugs
* Buses, trains, or boats
* The water
* The dark
* Telephones
* Loud noises

* Sports
* School
* Choking
* Motion
* Elevators
* Traveling or new places
* Bridges or tunnels
* Suffocating
* Crowds

* Small enclosed spaces
* Public speaking
* Wide-open spaces
* Sleeping
* Stairs or escalators
* Sex
* Bright lights
* Germs and diseases

Mice....a mouse could make me HURT myself! I used to be much more obsessed about that fear...`there was a time when I put aside money for a hotel room in the event I happened to see a mouse in my house--I had two cats at the time.
Public Toilets(don't even MENTION porta-potties!)
Heights, & dead bodies, although I love cemeteries
Crowds<----this is a new...I don't remember when crowds became problematic, but I can't do crowds.
Bathroom references or jokes---just grosses me out!
Seeing auto accidents on the highway...I almost got in an accident myself trying to avoid seeing one---this, I know is from my childhood.
My placements:
Venus in Scorpio,
Moon & Jup conj in Cap,
Saturn in Virgo,
Sun, Merc, Asc & Nep in Libra

This isn't a phobia, but I was terrified as a little kid when I first heard John Mellencamp's "Jack and Diane." (Not insulting his musical talent. )

The lines that bothered me: "Life goes on. Long after the thrill of living is gone." A passionless life? You don't say something like that to someone who's double fire with a Scorpio Asc. I despaired at those lines, but what scared me was not just the idea that being an adult means living as a joyless zombie, but that everyone accepts that as inevitable.

I guess I'm scared of peaking and having nothing left to look forward to, nothing worth feeling. That song still bothers me when I hear it today. Oh John, you make it hurt so bad.

I got the same feeling in junior high when I first read Thoreau's line "The mass of men lead lives of quiet desperation."

But as far as actual pulse-racing, hands-sweating phobias...

I suppose the closest I have to that is my fear of barking dogs. Even when they're obviously restricted and can't reach me, they still terrify me. I whimper pathetically. I never had a violent encounter with a dog, but I've had this fear for as long as I can remember. I change jogging/biking routes to avoid them.

Placements: Sag Sun, Leo Moon, Scorpio Asc & Mercury.

-- cockroaches (im scared to DEATH of them)
-- actually, any insects in general. I'm even scared of butterflies if you can believe that!
-- public speaking
-- small spaces...
-- needles, like when i need to get a blood test and they draw blood from me
-- porta-loos
-- the deep space...it fascinates me, but i always have dreams of being in deep space, as if i am travelling and everytime i do, i am scared to death.
-- loving someone that doesnt love me back
-- trusting people, which is why i have major trust issues

When I was a kid, I was scared of *everything*... being away from my parents, school, the basement, horror movies... sheesh.

Now it's down to:
- public speaking (also socially phobic)
- surgery
- bad tempers
- To be honest, I am scared of the dark if I'm in a place I'm not familiar with. That goes for badly lit roads too... which is why I'd be a pansy outside of the city.
- the usual stuff... uhh, abandonment, betrayal, love unreturned... abandonment is a godawful *biggie*

I have a weird, irrational fear of planes crashing into my house. What are the odds--but ever since I was a little girl, if I hear a plane flying so low it rattles the windows I have to resist the urge to burst out of the house and run for the hills, haha.

I also fear breaking my teeth and/or going blind, I hate having these examined, messed with, touched by objects or otherwise man-handled...yeesh!

Crowds.

I don't like getting pressed in - I think this is because of my size. Not big. I'm at heightened risk of being crushed. I don't do missionary position.

Snakes.

Irrational. There aren't many around here for it to be a risk. My grandfather have this as well, so I think maybe I inherited it off him. It was the snake-pits on the side of the road in North Africa did for him, so family folklore tells me.

Pandemic 'Flu

This is a fear more than a phobia, but then so is crowds.

when someone else breaks some bones, aaaaaaaargh! just thinking about it makes me feel awful! bizarely i think i could handle better if it was my bones, cause there's the physical pain to distract you but when you watch a football match (soccer is violent you know) and they break something..... argh, i can't even think about it.

another think i can't stand is horror movies. it's not a phobia, or may be it is... but when YOU know what's gonna happen and the caracters don't listen to you when you scream at the tv, it really makes me mad. seriously i've already passed out watching some stupid/caricature horror movies. i even screamed in the cinema when i went to see mission impossible 1 and independence day

i wanna throw up!
