In Linda's writing I have seen her say that Scorpio is like a calm, deep pool. Pisces is flowing water. What about Cancer? What sort of water would you say Cancer is? I can't find any reference.

I read something in a book called 'The Perfect Storm' (Sebastian Junger) yesterday -it was made into a film with George Clooney (mandatory 'Fwoooargh'). He describes how waves are created etc etc. He also said, in his description of the terminal velocity of diving rescue people, ie, how they have to jump from helicopters into water to save people:

'Water is the only element which offers increased resistance the harder you hit it'

I liked that. Have to be gentle with dem water peeps innit.

We have fish swimming in flowing water, a river, say. We have a deep loch with a mysterious hidden monster.

The crab ....

What about the sea? It is tidal, ruled by the Moon. So is the sign of Cancer.

My son has Cancer Rising. He was born by the sea. (In a hospital overlooking the sea, I didn't rush down to the beach though it would have been quicker and would have saved his father's blood pressure as I nearly gave birth in the car. The beach would have been more pleasant than the hospital, as well.)

wheelsofcheese - you said

'Water is the only element which offers increased resistance the harder you hit it'

Good point! One partner was Cancer Sun, the other Cancer Venus (swore never to be with a Cancerian after the first one!)

I have always found it difficult to communicate/share ideas with my Cancerian counterparts... There was always an element of resistance - very frustrating for me - the 'Communicator' with plenty of fire/air

Errr, durrrh, the sea! *hits self*
Of course! Aww, what a natural habitat for a Cancer rising nipper Blue. Nice.

Yeah, me too Dooza. Lots of air here too. I like the Cancers I know but I can't say I understand them. Being a Libran I am trying actively to understand Cappies and Cancers. Cappies I now totally love, admire and respect - but Cancers I am having a harder time with. I hope they feel the lurrrve nevertheless. I can't say I have encountered the "loony laugh" or sense of humour but perhaps this is because they know I may not understand them well enough to reveal it. Shame. I likes a laugh. I'll have to try harder.

wheelsofcheese,

This was what popped into mind when I read your message.

Cancer is the rising and ebbing tide: rising, and ebbing, and rising again with the phases of the Moon. Of course, they're not nearly as predictable as the real tides. :P

At least in my experience anyway -- I'm only chasing after one; I have never successfully gotten one to the point of dating me, yet.

*sigh* :P

This Scorpio(Sun,Mercury, and Venus) is not a calm type.

I am rather high strung with a mutable cadent t-square and Virgo Ascendant along with 4 planets in 3rd house and 2 planets in 6th house.....so 6 planets in houses naturally ruled by Mercury.

Actually, I disagree with all of you. If you think in terms of mode, cancer is cardinal and therefore I think it is the flowing river.

As for the rest, Scorpio still remains the deep pool because fixed never changes, and Pisces is the changing tides of the ocean since its mutable.

"Fight Like Water" ~ I've heard that someplace, probably Jackie Chan, I can't recall. If someone wants to set me straight on that please do, it is on my mind now, like trying to remember lost lyrics or something.

Could be Jackie Chan (I adore that man). It's an Iron Shirt Chi Kung principle I think. But again, could be wrong.

My ex-husband is a cancer moon. What I've learned is when dealing with them, you gotta be like a crab and approach everything sideways. Can never address an issue directly, always have to approach some other way......gently, and walk on eggshells so you don't hurt their feelings.

Me, I'm direct, blunt, and brutally honest. No sugar coating here. Which is why we're probably divorced. Actually, maybe the reason was because he cheated on me! Oh yeah, that was it!

MMm.... cancers...

My SO is a peculiar cancer, indeed... Quite emotional, but with Merc in Leo and an Aqua rising... comboed with a Cappy moon... He's not quiet about his emotions, I'll tell ya... He won't let anyone else be, either. He is direct, diplomatic and never stops seeking the truth in all cases, even if the truth sucks...

Mars is in Cancer, too... he just gets anyone to talk... nice trait! Me with all my Air aspects... it's an adventure.

GGG,

That sucks, hun... but your sarcasm is duly noted...

I beg to differ. I'm a Cancer sun, moon and Venus, but I'm very direct. Probably has to do with Aries ascendant, and Mars in Aries. I'm the first to say what I think when I think it and have been criticized for being insensitive. How Cancerian is that?

But the ocean does more. There's more initiation in the ocean than in the river. The ocean's also stormier, which can be like a Cancerian's moods. (The converse being the tranquil ocean that people go to the beach, and sail, and boat to experience, which I might be tempted to equate with all the lovely qualities of Cancer like the wit and humor.)

Having been happily partnered with my Cancerian for nigh onto 11 years...I have the following observations on a Cancerian.
When they appear too quite and or calm, they are like a deceptively calm sea, or a stormy sea....one of three things may be happening:
1. Look up...is the sky dark and foreboding? Is it too calm and still? That is the calm before the storm! The undercurrents are wild and unpredictable, a maelstromic tsnami is building or a giant whirlpool beneath that overly calm surface.
2. The sea is dark and waves choppy, but underneath all is calm focused and he is safe within his shell as the lightning crashes above. He will not come out until the storm above which was not his doing, is over.
3. The sun is shining, he basks contentedly on the warm sand next to a sea with gently lapping waves.

So in my opinion the Cancerian exemplifies the chaotic ever changing aspects of the oceans and seas which react to the moon, the temperature, the weather above it all, and can be different in any area of sea at the same time.

I hope that made sense.

Ah, I see and get your point, AG. So does this leave Pisces to be the river?

So how would you describe a grand water trine (like me)?? Because it seems like I experience ALL of these descriptions, in different ways.

The river that flows into and fills the lake, which was created by damming off the river but none-the-less lets some of the water continue on into the ocean.

Thank you!

HHmm...being a Scorpio I am a water sign.
With an Aqua moon!

Depending on a what other placements in a Scorpio's chart are.....
I cannot speak for all Scorpios.
As for water...
I love water in all its forms!
Ocean, river, lake, pond, pool, waterfalls, rain...all of it!
If I were to equate water to me it would be:
Underground rivers, deep wells, waterfalls in caves, springs from holes in rocks, and thunderstorms, and once in awhile ice covered
lakes/glacers, hot springs in a desert or snowy place, or even a geyser!

So is this a good thing or a bad thing?

Scorpio moon in 11th... trine Mars in Pisces in 4th... trine Saturn in Cancer in 7th... trining the Scorpio moon again.
