Xodian, you could always shun society - if it went back to being customary.

You're not really the sheep-ish type anyways.

Hey, I'm tomboyish and I'm not adverse to wearing make-up and doing a bit of shopping.

Anyway, it's the inner New Romantic in you!

Its not about being shunned or not; Its about Practicality vs. Individuality vs. Freedom.

The idea of cosmetic enhancement in anyway offcourse runs hand in hand with individuality and artistic expression and offcourse one would argue that one's own individuality shows best through makeup. However, the time that a normal female takes upon applying make up is simply... Too much Lol! I am a 15 min. max dress up time person. I can't picture myself taking about 30-40 mins applying makeup. Way too impractical.

Not only that, makeup in general would feel really forigen on my skin; Given the fact that I have never used it. Imagine being a guy and a first time user of base foundation for the face. I can verily tell you, the guy would thank the moment he gets a chance to wash it all off Lol!

Don't get me wrong, I really admire you gals for putting up all that time to look oh so stunning and glamarous. Would I want or be able to cope with such a lifestyle however? I don't see myself adapting to it very well.

That's why you use powder, or at least I do I hate foundation.

But I like my skin to breathe just in general Lol! I like my skin as it is. Would that change given a few decades and a whole lotta liver spots and wrinkles? Lol! Maybe.

Well where I live it could make a difference as UV rays are very prominent in our sunlight so it could make a difference down here if you wear foundation or not.

It takes a while to get used to make-up. Now that I don't wear it anymore (have no need to), putting it on again would feel funny.

Anyway, where's Boy George when you need him??

I got make-up application down to 9 minutes: concealer, eyeliner, eyeshadow, blush, powder (instead of foundation) and lipstick. Mr 23 still take 11 minutes I think to shave. I'm faster

Boy George... See, if you're pitching a "Pro-Makeup-for-men" view 23, I wouldn't recommend using him as an archetype .

Go with David Bowie Lol!

Anyway, interesting that you have the enitre routine down to 9 mins. I guess practice does makes perfect . Still somehow it just doesn't appeals to me. Think I'll just save makeup for costume parties and events only .

Hey you guys, that's the exact thing with me and makeup - I wear it because it's an expression of myself (btw I take less than 15 minutes to do my makeup, I can't imagine how it could take 30 or 40 minutes!). Every now and then I get told by people (men usually) that I don't need to wear makeup, shouldn't focus on my looks so much etc etc. But they miss the point. I'm not wearing it because I'm "focusing" on my looks - I just happen to enjoy expressing my personality in that way the same way as I enjoy putting colours together in a way that pleases me (in clothing or in my surroundings). I like how it looks, therefore why should I not do it just because someone else thinks I shouldn't. I also think that some men look good with makeup. I'm totally fascinated by Brian Molko's makeup and I think it looks amazing on him: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2KkarMNlTzY

I only use a very light foundation (MAC Select Sheer to be exact ) with a tiny bit of powder and it feels totally natural.

This convo is so refreshing - I hate it when people make a big deal and harrass me about wearing makeup. It's not as if I pile it on.

I think other women can look incredible with more make up though

I take about 10 min as well. It really doesn't take 30 or 40 minutes lol

Completely agree! I see it as a red light now, when someone says something about makeup, along those lines. I just find it rude.. How is it someone else's business what I choose to wear? I don't go around telling people they'd look better without a shirt on, so they should walk around naked OR wear different colours.

I know some are well meaning and believe they are paying you a compliment - but there are others with a "control freak" double agenda, and yet others who watch too much media on anorexia and the pressures put on women to look like supermodels (and then for some strange reason get the impression that ALL women fall in this "wannabe perfect" category).

I'm over it. It's too silly, so I stir clear lol

Exactly CF, completely agree. The last guy who commented about my makeup made it sound as though I must be insecure. To most people who comment about it, I think "what business is it of yours what I do with MY FACE!" ... I can only think of one occasion where I was genuinely complimented by a "you don't need makeup" comment. It was when I had walked into the room with no makeup on and Mr Gem's best friend was there (slightly drunk, so I'm sure that had some bearing on what he said. ) and gave me a huge compliment - my ego was sufficiently boosted by it to last me a lifetime! Other than that I'm usually offended because the comments reek of preconceived judgements about my personality.

I just recalled a mini internet debate on a forum several years ago about this. It was one of those 'post a picture of yourself' threads and some guy commented that I (and women in general) shouldn't wear eyeliner. His reason was that it takes away the emphasis from your eyes and makes people look at the SKIN around your eye - another guy stepped in and disagreed and said it was the opposite, that it emphasises the eye... I argued with the anti-eyeliner guy and called him a control freak who thinks he can tell women what to do... I totally lost respect for him after his comments.

I can't.

I find men to be a lot less judgmental and I tend to have a lot more in common (drinking, sports, etc).

I don't know if it's my aqua, or if it's just growing up with older brothers, but to me, women seem to thrive on drama, and talk mostly about other people and feelings... whereas men talk about things - sports, car, movies so it's much more lighthearted, and not as much gossip.
