a mars cycle, (my own several definitions), is first how transiting mars is affecting your planets, or how your natal mars is affected by the transits. it can take from 2-3 years to see the grand picture. mars symbolizes sexuality, impulsiveness, rush, headlong fantasies etc. etc. and this usually is what draws a lot of couples together . . . initially. this explosive energy and impulsion. but, mars by itself doesn't last. that's why it's one best ways to see if an attraction is based on a mars cycle first. but most won't realize it until after the fact.

the second part is by looking at the synastry (a chart comparison) if there are lot of aspects with mars. again, mars can only go so far in attracting, but not great at building things all the way through.

uranus is also a good predictor of attraction as well. when a transit from an inner planet makes an aspect to our natal uranus, we are more prone to unexpected attractions, which usually do not last long.

For instance Mars transit to Venus's usually leads to lots of steamy windows. Mars to Uranus can lead to sudden fights/passion/aquarius type weirdness. Mars to Mercury speeds communication. Mars to Jupiter can make people aggressive about learning or travelling.
