“True love cannot be found where it does not truly exist. Nor can it be hidden where it truly does.”
~Francios de La Rochefoucauld

"He drew a circle that shut me out ~
Heretic, a rebel, a thing to flout.
But Love and I had the wit to win:
We drew a circle that took him in!"

~Edwin Markham

"And with a sword
He clove my breast,
Plucked out the heart
He made beat higher

And in my stricken bosom
Pressed instead
A coal of living fire"
~Pushkin

"The man who goes out alone can start today; but he who travels with another must wait till that other is ready."

I just saw this thread and I LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT!!! It combines two of my very favorite things...love and quotes!!! lol

Okay, this is the first one that came to mind:

"To love another person is to see the face of God."

From the musical production of Les Miserables

That line always chokes me up.

Two shall be born the whole wide world apart
And speak in different tongues
And have no heed each of the other's being
And no thought

And these same two
O'er unknown seas to unknown lands shall cross
Escaping wreck, defying death
And all unconsciously
Shape each act and bend each wandering step
To this one end:
That one day out of darkness they must meet
And read life's meaning in each other's eyes

And these same two
Along some narrow path of life shall walk
So nearly side by side
That should one, or other, turn ever so little space
To left, or right
They needs must stand acknowledged

And yet
With searching eyes that never meet
With groping hands that never clasp
With lips calling in vain to ears that never hear
They seek each other all their weary days
And die unsatisfied

And such is fate.

Oohhh...good one, TaurusStar.

Another of the unrequited variety...

You Who Never Arrived:

You who never arrived in my arms, Beloved
Who were lost from the start,
I don't even know what songs would please you.

I have given up trying to recognize you in the surging wave of the next moment.

All the immense images in me ~ the far off, deeply felt landscape, cities, towers, and bridges, and unsuspected turns in the path, and those powerful lands that were once pulsing with the life of the gods ~ all rise within me to meet you, who forever elude me.

You, Beloved, who are all the gardens I have ever gazed at longing.

An open window in a country house ~ and you almost stepped out, pensive, to meet me.

Streets that I chanced upon ~ you had just walked down them and vanished.

And sometimes, in a shop, the mirrors were still dizzy with your presence, and, startled, gave back my too-sudden image.

Who knows?

Perhaps the same bird echoed through both of us yesterday, seperate, in the evening.

~ Ranier Maria Rilke

"Never shall I find again that divine thing; a person with whom I could talk freely of everything, in whom I could confide. Confide? But did not others offer me greater confidence than Albertine? With others, did I not have more extensive conversations? The fact is that confidence and conversation are ordinary things in themselves, and what does it matter if they are less than perfect if only there enters into them love, which alone is divine. I could see Albertine now, seated at her pianola, pink-faced beneath her dark hair; I could feel against my lips, which she would try to part, her tongue, her maternal, incomestible, nutritious, hallowed tongue, whose secret dewy flame, even when she merely ran it over the surface of my neck or my stomach, gave to those caresses of hers, superficial but somehow imparted by the inside of her flesh, externalized like a piece of material, reversed to show its lining, at is were, the mysterious sweetness of a penetration."

My friends, how desperately do we need to be loved and to love. When Christ said that man does not live by bread alone, he spoke of a hunger. This hunger was not the hunger of the body. It was not the hunger for bread. He spoke of a hunger that begins deep down in the very depths of our being. He spoke of a need as vital as breath. He spoke of our hunger for love.
Love is something you and i must have. We must have it because our spirit feeds upon it. We must have it because without it we become weak and faint. Without love our self-esteem weakens. Without it our courage fails. Without love we can no longer look out confidently at the world. We turn inward and begin to feed upon our own personalities, and little by little we destroy ourselves.
With it we are creative. With it we march tirelessly. With it, and with it alone, we are able to sacrifice for others.
- Chief Dan George

'Would you know your Lord's meaning in this thing? Know it well. Love was his meaning. Who showed it to you? Love. What did he show you? Love. Why did he show it? For love. Keep yourself therein and you shall know and understand more in the same. But you shall never know nor understand any other thing, forever.'
- Julian of Norwich

I want to love first,
and live incidentally.
- Zelda Fitzgerald

OK...for now I will simply quote myself.

I feel Soulmates are two complete persons not needing completion by another to become whole.
They come together because they desire to, not because they need to.
It is when the giving of love brings more ecstasy and joy than receiving,
and when both mutually do this sharing freely and naturally

...and I am not talking only of only sexual unions, it is indescribably amazing!
The love keeps growing and flowing.
These relationships involve complete trust, no jealousy, constant open communication,
and never the games too many couples play.

When you find that right partner.
It is like coming home
to someone you have known forever.
It is so right that,
There is not doubt, no question,
It just is.

I wrote these little Lexigrams from the word
SOULMATES a long while back (working on some longer ones)

SOULMATES

SOULMATES #1

SOULMATES….
A SEAL,
AT LAST SET.
AS MATES,
AT A SOULS' OASES MET.
AS SALT TO SEA,
AS SEA TO SALT;
AS MUSE TO TALE,
AS TALE TO MUSE;
SO ALSO TO US,
AS META-SOULS,
A SOUL SALUTE.

SOULMATES #2

LET US ASSUME MUTE ELMS,
AS STELA,
TO USE AS SLATES,
AS TOMES,
TO SET TALES
TO AMUSE A MUSE.

(Stela=an inscribed slab used as a monument)

ANAGRAMS OF SOULMATES

META SOULS
SAME LOTUS
A MUSES LOT.
O’ SAME LUST
MET A SOULS…

©2005, Intrinsic Development.

Another Lexigram.....

~ENDEARMENTS~

AS SERENE AS A SERENADE,
A MAN'S TENDER MANNERED ARTS.
ARE DREAMS SEEN AS A MERE NEED?
ERE A SAD MAN DREAMT A DREAM.
AND MET A DEAR AND ARDENT MATE,
AS AN EASTERN STAR SEEN,
AND EDEN'S STREAM MEANDERS,
A MAN'S DREAMS ARE NEEDS SEEN,
NEEDS ENTERED DREAMS DREAMT,
NEED MADE MAN
A SEDATE DREAM MASTER,
A DREAM MADE A MATE SEEMED NEAR.
A SERENADE MEANT DEAR.
AT DREAM A MAN MEETS A MATE,
AND TEARS SEEN SAD,
ARE AT AN END,
AS ERE A MERE MAN,
AT NEAREST STAR SEEN,
A SAD MAN STARE AT A STAR,
SAD DREAM SEER.
A TENDER TERM,
AN EARNEST DARE,
AS TERMS ARE SET AND SENT.
REDEEM A SAD MAN,
AN EARNEST MAN,
A DREAM SEER,
A MAN AT EASE,
SERENE SEDATE,
STARED AT A NEAREST STAR,
A DEAR'S NAME NAMED,
A DARE MEANT,
SEND ME A DEAREST DEAR AND ARDENT MATE!
AMEN.

Well it is not a quote but a poem.

Concerning lovers from past lives finding each other in a new lifetime.

~Lovers Beware~

Tender music of the soul can wound or heal the heart...
And love lost before can be renewed....
And stars uncrossed...
Beware old wounds reopened
To bleed from tender hearts again..
Two souls to yearn...
For their own true song....
Which must be played to perfection...
And mutual tones and meanings realized..
Or the notes into miseries fall to become a dirge.

Eternal love demands no idle tryst of passion..
Such desire must be the purest extention of love's true form..
Or hungry flesh to flesh will poison the sacredness..
And lovers hearts flaming ....
Too soon burn down to hot embers..
And tears fall as bitter rain...
Washing away even the cold ashes....
Leaving at best...
Nothing.

And some more of my poems on love and loss.

From a Vision-
Dream..November 1967
Copyright..B.F.W. 1967
I was only 13 years old then,
so please forgive the bad poetry.

The Sea Path

_________________________

Oh God!
Why?
Why didst thou allow me to return
to the rough raging sea?
For it has cost me the life
of the one dearest to me.

Upon my return
To my beloved I said
We will be happy
And we shall be wed!

A fortnight ago
false news came to town
that shipwrecked I was,
and dead was I found.

She waited with a faint ember of hope
in her heart,
Then into the rough raging sea
from this life she did part!

Oh thou dear maiden so fair!
Oh thou dearest to me!

I am ending this life
I am coming to thee!

By way of this Godforsaken
Rough raging sea!
__________________________

Years later more came to me...
I feel this was all a past life connection but not with my soulmate. It was heart breaking but never meant to be.
I was the man in both poems.

"Sea Of Tears"
My tears more wet than salt sea air.
Dressed in my wedding clothes..
Sunk deep within my heart's despair,
I look towards the lonely places
And as over my head
The rolling waves rose
And so..
As the cold sea
Joined with my salt tears
It washed away my life and cares
That deep sorrow
I could not face..
Or bear.

"Love has to arise out of lust. If you avoid lust, you will be avoiding the whole possibility of love itself. Love is not lust, true; but love is not without lust - that, too, is true. Love is higher than lust, yes, but if you destroy lust completely, you destroy the very possibility of the flower arising out of the mud. Love is the lotus, lust is the mud the lotus arises out of."

"When I said that love is commitment, what do I mean by it? I don't mean that you have to promise for tomorrow, but the promise is there. You don't have to promise, but the promise is there. This is the complexity and the subtleness of it. You don't say, "I will love you tomorrow, too" - but in the moment of love that promise is there, utterly present. It needs no expression."

“I don't pretend to know what love is for everyone, but I can tell you what it is for me; love is knowing all about someone, and still wanting to be with them more than any other person, love is trusting them enough to tell them everything about yourself, including the things you might be ashamed of, love is feeling comfortable and safe with someone, but still getting weak knees when they walk into a room and smile at you.”

“For it was not into my ear you whispered, but into my heart. It was not my lips you kissed, but my soul.”
quote:
“Find a guy who calls you beautiful instead of hot, who calls you back when he says he will, who will lie under the stars and listen to your heartbeat, or will stay awake just to watch you sleep... wait for the boy who kisses your forehead, who wants to show you off to the world when you are in sweats, who holds your hand in front of his friends, who thinks you're just as pretty without makeup on. One who is constantly reminding you of how much he cares and how lucky his is to have you.... The one who turns to his friends and says, 'that's her.'”

“A soulmate is someone who has locks that fit our keys, and keys to fit our locks. When we feel safe enough to open the locks, our truest selves step out and we can be completely and honestly who we are; we can be loved for who we are and not for who we’re pretending to be. Each unveils the best part of the other. No matter what else goes wrong around us, with that one person we’re safe in our own paradise. Our soulmate is someone who shares our deepest longings, our sense of direction. When we’re two balloons, and together our direction is up, chances are we’ve found the right person. Our soulmate is the one who makes life come to life.”
