There are hints of red in my hair as well from my mom's Norwegian/Brit side. Her mom's full Norwegian (great grandparents immigrated separately from Norway and met in the U.S.). I also have a goatee, which is starting to show the occasional white hair. Argh!IP: Logged |

Sexism.......mmm.......Well for one thing the word on the street is that scientists now KNOW for definate that God is a woman.......couldnt possibly be a man......they can only do ONE thing at a time.....whereas women.....well we know dont we girls.....cooking dinner, talking on the phone, making love, playing an instrument.......all at the same time!!! Ive been chewed out for trying to finnish the last chapter in a book while making love.. Well actualy wsnt realy making love,,, more just sex. hahaha, When I thought about it- I saw that it was insulting. Couldnt stop laughing when a big deal aobut it was made though. I had a scrap factor of my 0% to their 16% for one shift...and 23% for the other shift.
Even if my scrap factor went up due to substandard materials...the spread between me and the others was still 16% to 23% under them.
the entire place was required to take a class in Statistical Process Control.
Out of nearly a thousand people....only myself and one other person scored 100% in the manditory class. All others scored 66% or less. This was posted in the company newsletter.....that got the guy who scored 100% like I did...a high position job. It got me sh-t on by jealous men. They tried to sabotage my work....but I documented my work in detail....so I was able to prove they did nasty stuff to my materials. I was then permitted to go straight to the lab and millwrights and get my own untouched material. Then I was put in charge of hazardous materials disposal and monitoring.
This further pis--d them off because now if I caught any of them dumping solvents and other toxins out back...I was required to document and report it.
That upset alot of guys who were too lazy to go through the proper disposal procedures.
I have to laugh...because years later...the EPA stepped in...and there has been a big legal enviromental scandal going on. The groundwater for the city has been contaminated by benzenes and other really nasty stuff. So apparently after I left almost 2 decades ago...the two offending companies went back to ground dumping again...and now it is in the hands of the EPA
and I think deemed a superfund cleanup site.
At least I know it was not my fault! Alot of male heads rolled for that mess.I was accused of being a perfectionist. Well..
I am. What is so wrong about that? At least when it comes to a quality product that can affect the world of ships and oil rigs.
And still protect the enviroment.
I also was not supplied company coveralls that fit me...and had to buy my own...even though the men could get them to use and send them back to be cleaned...for free. Same for gloves. I needed smaller ones. I had to buy my own.
I had to build my own platform to reach certain machines. They thought it was funny to set things and controls out of my reach. Well..necessity is the mother of invention...and so I worked around their little games of trying to make me leave. Alot of them thought I was also their sex toy. That ended very soon! I told some of them..you grab my as- or bo-bs again and you better get used to singing in a high key!
I am all for a little flirting and horseplay...but a dangerous enviroment like that can be deadly in seconds! That is not the place to goof around!

Oh yeah...the beef was not that I was a perfectionist...but that I was/am female.
The beef was always..why do they let her work here? And...why is she always showing off by outdoing us?
Or in high school...was not allowed to take shop or auto mechanics.....only home economics. Same for gym class or Phys ed.....only boys were allowed after the 9th. grade...not girls. I see that in schools now some of that has finally changed. IP: Logged |

Ive talked to some older guys that see things like those dinnasaurs who oyu worked with did... Useualy they are the simmalar sort to have ran their mouth to me, or in front of me about how guys shouldnt be working coffee shop ocunter jobs, or waiting tables. Ive almost been fired a few times for laughing rite then and there when hearing their 1 dimensional rants. As far as peaple Ive worked with. From restaurants, to factorys and wharehouses. Things have thankfully changed from the way they used to be at the workplace. I worked at a company that did seem to perhaps cater to promoting based on gender [for the womens benefit]. , other then that things seem aot farer now. And maybe once have I seen a women or girl have to put up with any harasment, or petty and insulting gmaes. Very few peaple want to see that sorta crap going on at work now. IP: Logged |
