I fear if I reply to this, I may need my own forum...LOL

I've had SO many unrequited affections, I could write a novel (Well, they already inspired the vast array of poetry, so there's that :P)

The point is to stir you out of whatever rut you have become entrenched in, and stir your heart to feel and see more than what the current reality is...the love unreturned carves out scars in your heart too, and makes you face the darkest corners of your loneliness. It makes you reconsider what you want in a partner, and guides you to pick better the next time...until hopefully you end up with someone where the feeling is both mutual and healthy.

I honestly feel like I have always been in love with the same person/soul. I missed my person deeply so when I would run across people with similar energies I would be drawn to them and would project "my person" onto them. I would then either begin a relationship with them (usually because I was young and cute and he would be happy to pretend to be all of the things he wasn't just to gain the experience of me looking into his eyes with love for the things he was that were just like the "twin soul" or "my person" I was seeking) or if a relationship did not begin, I would still long to be near my person/twin soul's energy signature that I sensed to some degree in this stranger.

It's like being lost and freezing and then finding a small fire to warm yourself. What you really want is to be home, safe and warm at the family hearth, but when you have been wandering for decades cold and alone, those tiny glimpses of your beloved's soul take away the lost and cold feelings for a while. The person you have the unrequited love scenario either isn't looking for your signature (because he isn't your person) or if you happen to have a little of what they are searching for themselves, they may recognize you aren't the one faster. Probably because they were recently warmed by a stronger fire or maybe even because they've just frozen up completely.

I guess that's what makes it so hard. When they feel right to you and you think and feel they are so close to "your person" you want to get closer and they either can already tell you aren't it, or they might be your person but they've sort of given up and froze over so they can't feel your energy/fire unless you get closer and you can't find a way to get closer.

hmmmm……

you can always blame your parents for it, especially your emotionally unavailable father ( generally speaking).

Ive not really had a major unrequited love, but when younger a few unrequited crushes so I am no expert lol

Hmmm unrequited love can be a painful experience but I feel the experience is really about learning to...

love yourself - this is a big one...getting to the point of loving yourself unconditionally, warts and all, really loving yourself is a journey for most of us. The more you love yourself the less nonsense (from yourself and others) you will tolerate. You deserve to be loved.

Learning to let go - knowing when to let go and who to leave behind...another big lesson in life...if a guy likes you and wants to be with you there is NEVER any doubt...he will fall over himself for you and until you experience that it may be hard to imagine...but Miranda was right...if he's just not into you, you should just cut the cord...next!

Fear - I could list 100 possible fears that are at play, but likely a fear of not finding anyone better/else.

Life experience - just chalk it up to a life experience....better to have loved and lost than never have loved at all...not everyone will like you, accepting that makes the journey smoother!

This is all easier said than done and sometimes you have to go through the experience to learn this, but I think many peeps would be far better off if they used intuition and self belief to trust that the universe will provide what they need, when they need it....and not settle for less than. Don't put yourself though unnecessary pain, this comes back to loving yourself.

I'm totally emo in nature but age and experience has taught me to really love & accept myself and as selfish as it sounds, I have to put myself and my feelings first.

I was just thinking about the topic of “loving yourself” yesterday while listening to my favorite book with my partner. I read Marianne Williamson’s book, “A Return to Love” in the early 90’s and used to read it over and over. I’ve referred to it as “my bible” probably a hundred times in my life. I had read the beginning to my partner in a cabin up in Wisconsin years ago and he just ordered it to listen to insuring long drives to different clients. She was talking about looking at yourself with forgiveness and through eyes of love so you could look at others the same way.
