Also, however the card relates to you is how you should go with the reading when you are the reader. That is the whole point of Tarot; the cards are adaptable and intuition is with the reader. So, if that is what works for you, then go with it. If you do readings for yourself on a daily basis and keep track of them, and even journal them to follow the things that take place in your life and compare that to the cards, you'll know what the card means to you when in conjunction with other cards and that's what Tarot is all about. When you're the reader, it's based on your personal experience with the cards. quote: Originally posted by PhoenixFire: Thank you for the insight. Im going to read more on origin of tarot. I have read a bit on Crowley & the golden dawn, but didnt know about his ordering. Still feel the 7 is more Neptune than Scorpio, totally agree that V in Scorpio's intensity does relate to confusion at times. Very interesting card, the emotions are there but the clarity of purpose is lacking.

PF, you know I'm really not all that "into" all the hoopla surrounding tarot. I'm not even close to being a novice with astrology but I know there is a deep connection and I would like to learn all there is to know about astrology to further my understanding as a whole. I know very little about the "Golden Dawn" and all of that. What I know is that your intuition belongs to you and Tarot helps you expand on your own inner knowledge and sense of "knowing" through the pictorial representation of the cards. Pamela Coleman Smith may not have been a very good artist, but she had a keen sense of knowing and I believe that is why the Rider-Waite deck is so popular and speaks so clearly to so many. The BEST advise I can give you, can give to anybody, is to TRUST WHAT YOU KNOW (provided you are operating from a wise, balanced frame of mind). Don't allow exterior influence to interfere with your own intuition and what you know. Stay true to yourself. That is most important. You know what you know what you know, so trust it. I really do hope this helps you, and anyone else who may be teetering on their own doubt. Believe in yourself and trust what you know. That is the power of spirit. quote: Originally posted by PhoenixFire: Thank you, whereabouts I bought a book that combines tarot w astrology, and it lists this card as Venus in Scorpio too. Before anything, forget Crowley, read this: This is what holds MOST of the clues. http://www.hermetics.org/pdf/Waite_Tarot.pdf Crowley was a total joke. Something of an Andy Warhol, but worse. And also an adept of depravity and drugs. And honestly his theory of sex magic is a flop if anything (I for one could enlighten him alright). I have recently read that he wrote a novel about a war between black and white magicians and made Waite one of the main villains, as well as other top figures at Golden Dawn. No decent man would ever do that, for sure. It's funny though. How some people see threats in this card and some don't. Because this dragon is for me straight out of nightmares. Going back to Crowley, these two cards for example obliterate him as an authority in my eyes this is temperance btw And this is his 7 cups Which is also a bit of a joke. What I see is viscous liquids somehow eroticised and similar to body liquids. I also see obsession and compulsion. Perhaps drunkenness/altered mind. I'm not denying this one is probably Venus in Scorpio, because it does look like it if anything does. What should be questioned though is whether it descends directly from the decks that shaped the tradition. I wouldn't be so certain. IP: Logged |

@phoenix fire, The esotiric arts have a big long backstory...Iam a big believer of going with your intuition, personal knowledge, experience to enhance how your cards cards speak to you. But to understand the depth of tarot you must know its origin and history. You must know and understand its original meaning before applying your own. You need to known and understand how the card came to be and its creators message to evolve your own knowledge. But that doesnt mean you need to stick by traditional meanings... Just let them guide/inspire you. IP: Logged |

Very interesting =) I love how tarot has so many layers of mystery, to be discovered and felt. I especially like the astrological connection, and agree the history is very important, as it is the foundation just as our own life histories are a big part of who we are. I've been reading about the connections with numerology & kabbalah in tarot, and it is so fascinating how so many estoric themes are woven into the cards. Truly ingenious. One of the things I most like about this forum, is the wide arena of topics which seem separate but are connected at the same time. Fascinating. IP: Logged |
