Anyone have information on this phenomenon? I haven't heard much about it in years. What was supposed to cause it? ------------------ "Never mentally imagine for another that which you would not want to experience for yourself, since the mental image you send out inevitably comes back to you." Pardon me,but did you say SPONTANEOUS HUMAN COMBUSTION?It sounds like something out of a horror movie or a bad role-playing game. There's a Calvin and Hobbes comic strip about it,I think....Calvin fools his dad into thinking he exploded with paper bag. IP: Logged |

I saw a English Doco on it a few years back and the conclusions that they came to after speaking with Fire Investigators etc was that: [list] [*] The rooms where the victims were found were all closed and had no ventilation.[*] There was a source of heat in the room, either a fire or electric/gas heater. [*] There was tremendous heat that was produced from the combustion that melted metal/thermoplastics but was unusual in the sense that it didn't start a fire. [*] A person could be sitting next to something highly flammable that didn't combust. [*] The body didn't completely smoulder away, parts that had the least amount of body fat remained unconsumed. They compared it to the burning of a candle in that the fire? consumed only the parts with the highest concentration of body fat and that it smouldered and didn't burn. This is why lower legs and arms would still be there. But in saying all that they are still uncertain as to how it actually starts.

There is a fellow named Larry Arnold who was part of a metaphysical group I belonged to and SHC was his passion. He wrote a book about it and a documentary was shown on TV not too long ago. I saw him about a year ago, and he is still studying it. He believes they are associated with Ley Lines and he coined the term "fire leynes" after he did a lot of research and mapping the Ley Lines to show most cases of SHC occured along those lines. http://anomalyinfo.com/articles/ga00003a.shtml Donna IP: Logged |

Hi QueenofSheeba Here in England when people say they are about to "Spontaneously Combust" they usually mean they're about to explode (with anger) I prefer that version than even the thought of the real thing Sue IP: Logged |

I have read about this stuff in some book which I dont re-member. It is like this: perfectly healthy human beings suddenly catch fire and burn to ashes. It is as if a powerful lens concentrated heat rays on them, that before they could realize what happened the heat turend intense and burnt them away - ofcourse, spontaneous combustion was confused with a lot of cases of non-spontaneous combustion - where there WAS an external source of heat - but was dis-regarded. Yet there have been singular instances when men just catch fire - from nowhere - it has been researched, documented and 'proved'. There have been a variety of explanations given by scholars - none of them satisfactory so far.IP: Logged |

Interesting, Raj. The only time I've ever heard of spontaneous combustion before is when I watched an episode of Picket Fences a good 6 or 7 years ago.IP: Logged |

My mother told me, (maybe she read it somewhere) that it was believed(by whom, I don't know....yeah, who are THEY?) Anyway, she said that it was when your kundalini 'woke' by mistake, you were not ready and like an ant under a magnifying glass, you fried. IP: Logged |

I think spontaneous combustion is when a vampire like Lestat sets someone on fire for whatever reason. It is that or something like that.------------------ Love is the greatest weapon and Love is the greatest shield-Me IP: Logged |

Yeah that's him but you can't judge him from "Interview With the Vampire" you have to read the Anne Rice Books OR see "Queen of the Damned": that guy was really Lestat personified. You don't want to get the wrong idea about him (which you will from Interview). Lestat has the ability to start fires through telekinesis because his powers are so strong. But he is not a wicked Vampire persay.IP: Logged |

It's an electrical magnetic anomaly. so I guess in part the ley line thingy is correct. There is a curious relationship between high readings on the geomagnetic scale [ measured in gausses ] and SHC.This is not a new thing. It's baffled people throughout the centuries. Charles Dickens was fascinated by SHC, His account of Krook's death in the novel Bleak House is based on a real event that took place in his life time. IP: Logged |

When I was a kid we had a compost pile that would spontaniously combust. Heat generated by an internal chemical reaction. Chemicals, we all have them. Farmers are very careful about proper ventilation of their silo's. Grains can easily combust.IP: Logged |
