I don't take them for 2 years! (junior year in high school)... That's because I go to a private school that doesn't believe in tests. IP: Logged |

Are you still in school, Fajita? Or were you joking? Can't really tell sometimes, I'm too serious... ahem, realistic, to be, uhh, caught up in such things as, ahh, "human levity" (grumble, harrumph, snort).

I got prefinals coming up this week...Speaking of exams, I remembered really one funny incident. I and my friend were going to our former classmate's debut party, and we invited another friend who went to a different college along. He declined, saying that "exams are coming up". We asked when, he said "in two months". We really went on the floor on that one coz we were having our exams by NEXT WEEK! LOL I'm not saying what he did was wrong or anything, it was just really amusing once you think about it... IP: Logged |

Neither do I. Personally I don't like memorizing stuffs (which is why I hate the way history is being taught sometimes). Seriously, when I do step out into the real world I think I'll have to refer to books quite often for facts so I don't have to keep them in mind. Facts are easily gleaned from books and papers. What to do with them, is quite a different matter. I'd rather focus my energy on analysis and critical thinking rather than on devloping a photographic memory...I'm a Virgo Sun, with Sag moon and Gemini rising (sept 13, 1983). Does this explain anything about why I think this way? O.o IP: Logged |

X3me, I don't know what I'm talking about here. I thought that Virgo=orginization and Sag=joviality and carelessness, so maybe...?Obviously I know nothing. ------------------ Hello everybody! For some strange reason my things are always scattered around here. But yeah, I do tend to get my work very organized... that is, if you can get me to sit long enough on a particular task.My dad says I work fast, though. ^_^ Ehehehe. Must be my gemini rising (which probably I believe is also the reason why I can't concentrate at a particular task for very long, unless it requires really deep thinking and not just plain scouring and stuff). lol I still produce very clean code when I do programming, though, which I really don't understand myself. lol IP: Logged |

I know nothing about programming except what I've done in school for math. It was lots of fun- we were using Microsoft Windows Logo, we did simulations and geometric constructions, etc. Not very advanced stuff though, so I'd like to learn more.------------------ Hello everybody! Programming is fun. I love making Mike (i.e. my comp's name. Mike M. Puter. lol) do every little thing I wanna do. Problem is, he does everything to the letter I have to explicitly tell him everything to do. Not that I don't like it. Appeals to my Virgo sun. ^_^ Although sometimes he makes me wanna pull out a few hairs... and then I find the problem and I go... "oops. my mistake. ^_^;"Currently I'm designing a program for dad coz he wants me to setup an algorithm that construct schedules (i.e. make sure nothing conflicts and all that) for each individual rooms of the school he's running. The algo's quite simple. It's the GUI that's killing me. I'm using Java (which, although makes GUI easy to set up, is very tedious to type). For some reason, I like it way better than VB. Probably because VB is mostly eye candy and I'm more after code efficiency. I'm doing it for about four or five days now (and 3-7 hours a day doing nothing but coding. lol) and it's about 15-20% done. Which means hopefully by the end of April I'll be able to finish it... although I'm not sure coz I've still got a few projects to submit for schoolwork. I'm taking a break from programming, though. I'm just setting up the documention, with what little I've done. lol. Makes maintenance and revisions a lot easier that way. I really should get paid for this. -.- But, what the hell. Dad is dad, although I don't think he would mind paying (he believes all kinds of work should be compensated. Dunno if it's a Taurean trait, though.) he's still family. Hell, I'm doing this just for the experience, anyway. Plus, it'll be good to see (if I ever do finish it, that is. Have this notorious habit of leaving lotsa strings hanging. Gemini rising? Dunno. Probably.) it being used for something. Prove to dad I ain't just using the pc as a toy. Programming comes in many forms. Do you know any javascript, perl, asp, jsp and even flash's actionscript? They're light programming languages. Although you won't probably be able to do hardcore programs with them (well, maybe except flash. But flash programs are usually telling flash to go to specific frames depending on specific conditions, or placing items at specific locations. It's more on interface rather than on algorithms.) they're still programming languages and will help you understand how a computer works. If you do wanna go into programming, I recommend Java, which is a free download from java.sun.com. They also have a free online tutorial there and forums so you can post questions and other stuff. The downside of java is that it doesn't have an IDE like VB does. You code your... er... code into a text editor like notepad (makes indentation and organization a b*tch) and then compile it via the DOS command prompt (which makes compile and runtime debugging HELL). The good news is there are lots of Java IDE's scattered around the net, the least being Sun's own Java IDE, Forte. Get an IDE that makes you concentrate on the main task, which is coding. This means after setting up the program (i.e. installing, linking the java compiler to the IDE, etc.) you should be doing coding most of your time. The most important thing you should look for in an IDE is output capturing, so when you encounter any error in your programming, you can immediately zero in on them. Other things you should consider is internal file management (Java programming rarely takes up only one file) and code completion (i.e. tells you how functions work and their arguments, etc.). I'm using Gel for Java and I like it very much. Got into trouble setting up for a while, but once I started coding debugging was a breeze. Whew! that's one long post. anyway, I'm off. See ya!
