Oops, I forgot you're not familiar with the US school system. Sorry.Sophomores (pronounced 'sof-mores', meaning 'wise fool' in Latin ) are people in their second year of high school, in other words 10th graders. Ninth grade is called freshman year, tenth grade sophomore year, eleventh grade junior year, and twelfth grade senior year. Then after that you have the option of college, university, med school etc. In most schools they have two proms: one for the juniors and one for the seniors (sophomores and freshman don't go to prom). My school is rather small, though, so we just have one prom for everyone. Kinda cool, though I think it annoys the older people when the ickle 9th graders come buzzing around. ------------------ Hello everybody! Ooooooh yeah. There's a actually a multi-billion a year Prom industry selling dresses, flowers, shoes, tuxedoes, cumberbunts, renting limos, etc. Prom is hideously expensive, especially for the girls- plus, there's dinner and the cost of tickets just to get in. But everybody gets all fired up over it and goes on gigantic shopping sprees. It's a status thing, I guess.... I wonder, do girls have a special 'shopping gene' that makes them love to shop? Sure seems like it. And then there's all the uproar over who goes to prom with whom.... people getting up the nerve to ask so-and-so to prom with them, if they don't already have a boy- or girl-friend, all the rejections and acceptances, all the gossip, the last minute scramble to get a date by people who couldn't be bothered before. It's a madhouse, and I rather look forward to it. ------------------ Hello everybody! Man, (or Woman) I went to prom as a Sophmore, but it was kinda lame. I went with a girl who was rather boaring. We danced and had fun, then in the car ride to after-prom(the event afterwords where it is less formal and there are activities like laser tag, cards, food, face painting, ect.) she didnt talk to me the whole time then when we got to after-prom she wouldnt go and do some of the activitys with me, so i just went and hung out with some other friends which was more fun. Then after words She said that i ditched her. Man, I was like whatever and we didnt talk again. this year I think I'll have a better date if I even go at all. Girls (yes you) are mostly confused. Guys are like, "Dude girls are confusing! I just dont get them." I'm like nah its them thats confused in the first place. But dont get me wrong its not like us guys aren't confused our selfs. Cuz let me tell you we are to. Just some to a lesser exstent. Randall III P.S. Rember to cut us a little slack when the time comes cuz NO ONES perfect. IP: Logged |

i wish i wasnt going with anyone! my whole group went all crazy and decided we all had to go with dates, but the thing is none of us like anyone at our school so its really weird....id rather be going just with my friends than with someone i dont really wanna talk to!about the shopping....i really dont know what it is, but its soooooooo much fun!!!! there probably is a special gene in our heads saying spending money on clothes=good! This is going to sound very pessimistic but I don't think I'm going to any prom with anyone. Chances are I'm going to stay home. I know it's sounds very sad, but I told you, I don't have a social life at school. Atleast I'm being honest with myself. Makes me sad thinking about it, I don't know how I'll break it to my family. Man, there going to think I'm a loser. -StarLover

If that is what you want to do, your family should support you in that. But if you want to go... perhaps there is a male you know who could escort you? Maybe a friend's brother, or a cousin. You can be escorted by a cousin, it isn't gross or incestuous. He could even be a few years younger, if he was mature. But if you decide not to go, remember that prom isn't everything, in fact social life isn't anything at all, really. Just a way to deal with boredom until life starts in earnest. You don't happen to live in central California, do you, Star? ------------------ Hello everybody! Thnx Randall! It's not that I don't like parties or am anti-social (I do like parties, even if I get bored afte the first hour) I just realize that all I'm doing when I party is passing time. It's not important at all. ------------------ Hello everybody! I used to be QueenofSheeba and then I was Apollo and now I am QueenofSheeba again (and I'm a guy in case you didn't know)! IP: Logged |

Sorry to bring this topic back from the graveyard, but my prom is coming up and I'm goingthis year! See, my school is so small that any year can go, and nobody cares if sophomores (grade 10) have dates or not. In my case I won't- dates are so much bother.I am wearing a black tux, a pink tuxedo shirt, and ankle boots with 2.5 inch heels. I'm considering sunglasses for the entrance. Opinions, hmm? Wow, you're style seems awesome! What kind of sunglasses are you planning for your entrance? Tinted ones are easier to pull off in non-sunny places. Do you mind if I ask what city in cali are you from? My prom is coming up, too on the 28 of this month. I honestly wasn't so enthused about going, even though I really enjoy the parties and all the other times I get to spend with my friends. But when it comes to school oreinted stuff...I'm kind of disinterested. Nevertheless! I'm slowly getting excited about getting all dolled up. I don't like to think that I'm a shallow or vain person in the least. I'm just a girly girl - I can't help it!IP: Logged |

I hope your prom is awesome, PinkPearls&Stars! Have a blast.Mine was last Sunday, and it was good. I actually didn't do the shades- I felt ridiculous enough already- but fashionwise I still swept the event. Pink shirts and high heels go a long, long way. I live in Sacramento. ------------------ Hello everybody! I used to be QueenofSheeba and then I was Apollo and now I am QueenofSheeba again (and I'm a guy in case you didn't know)! IP: Logged |
