So, I thought that this might be interesting to ask this forum about these reoccuring dreams that I've had for many, many years.
They started throughout high school when I was getting ready to graduate and move to a different city and start a whole new life. It was a very turbulant, expansive and exciting time for me. What happened in the dreams was pretty simple. There would be a storm coming and my family in my house refused to listen to me when I told them that it was important to get into the basement. I would run around the house and try to save all of our pets and tried to look after everyone. Sometimes the tornado would come over the house and sometimes it wouldn't. Usually one cat (the same pet cat in every dream) would run away. The last of these dreams I had in a series a different cat ran away.

Then I didn't have them for a long time and recently I've been having them, though not as often as I did before. As time progressees the dreams have become less about me trying to save everyone else, to me trying to save myself. They don't involve pets anymore, because I don't live in the same house.

I had one of these dreams last night, and it was different than all of the others. The last few of these dreams involved a larger house instead of my childhood house. It usually housed a lot of people that I knew in the past and currently. I was very calm in the dream, which is a rarity. I noticed that a storm was coming and hurried to the basement where the tornado eventually came over us and people were screaming (which I have never heard before in a dream) and I was being blown around. This time I didn't panic and woke up in a state of relaxation.

Another thing that was different about this dream was the fact that I looked out towards the horizon before the storm came and a gorgeous rainbow, very oversized and surreal was extending out of the clouds. And as the storm got closer the rainbow disappeared, but I wasn't sad about it.

Any ideas here? I'm just curious about others' opinions. Thank you!

A friend of mine said that before any major changes took place in his life, he dreamed of tornadoes. It got to the point that as soon as he has them, he knows something big is about to happen even if he isn't expecting anything. He claims to never be wrong on that.

One weird thing on that...he said once he was picked up by the tornado as often happens, but landed in the same spot where he was picked up. After that, he moved to another city, but came back a couple weeks later or so, which he had not expected...but believes that what was meant by the tornado dropping him in the same spot.

Hello aloneinkyoto

Dervish is right. Tornado dreams and such are all about stormy emotional energies and/or sudden changes.

From the looks of it, your more recent dreams suggest that you are much more well equipped to handle the stresses and changes that occur in your life, you have a more mature outlook, and can see a larger picture.

Make sense?
