I've been dreaming one dream off and on for about 20 years now.It takes place in a HUGE stone tower on a hill. The dream itself is more about the tower than anything else.
It's stone, primarily stone or some sort of rock worked construction. It's a place where people live as a community. The stairs are in the center of the tower in a spiral shape... and each level has a balcony type thing that circles the stairs.
The people have rooms in their living quarters, but two living quarters open up to a shared living room/kitchen.
Think of it like this: (Living quarters - Kitchen - Living quarters) - (Living quarters - Kitchen - Living quarters). All in a circle on each level.
The living room/kitchen is open to the balcony circling the stairs... no wall. And while the building seems incredibly old, the appliances are modern (not futuristic or ancient, just normal modern).
Anyway, like I said, the majority of the dream is simply showing me the ins and outs of this tower... but near the end of the dream the same thing happens.
One of the levels catches fire (differing levels for each dream).
There is a panic and that's when the fire safety mechanism activates... which is a very heavy stone divider along the spiral stair case. It slides out from in between the floor and ceilings above and below the level in question and basically traps everyone on that level with the fire until it goes out. (And blocks citizens from the above levels from getting to the ground floor).
I hear the scraping of the stone as the divider moves into place, ever so slowly. The panic of the people trying to escape. The absolute ANGER at the government who built this design to save it's citizens in the one hand, while in the other having such disregard for those that are trapped.
I find the structure fascinating, the shared community aspect enlightening, and the mechanism for putting out the fire as interesting in it's practice as it is frustrating.
Not looking for interpretations (although if you have any insight I won't turn it down), just sharing.
