Don't get your hopes up. It was just a little friendly sarcasm.

They are not the only ones at war. Technically, there are quite a lot of people at war right now. The fact that wars still have to happen is quite sad to me. But pictures like this aren't generally sad to me. I know a whole lot of soldiers who have been deployed for this war, some who are currently deployed, and some who are waiting for deployment. I don't see sadness in their faces, I see determination. I don't see despair, I see hope. Yes, being away from family and friends is never fun ... but it's not the end of the world. I can't be a pessimist and expect them all to die, or sit around worrying about which one of them will die. I choose to have faith that they will serve their country honorably and return home safely when it's their time to do so. However, were they to die, then it would certainly be very sad. But to many of their family and friends there deaths would not have been in vain. They died defending a cause they believed in, whether it was the idea of the war itself or just the idea of defending their country. That usually means a lot to them and their families and friends. Losing a loved one in a war is sad and difficult, but it's comprehensible unlike, say, losing a loved one in a senseless accident caused by a drunk driver. I don't personally appreciate emotional arguments. I see soldiers everyday. I see them leave with fair frequency and I see the majority of them return with fair frequency. I can't disrespect them and their chosen duties by focusing solely on the negative possibilities.------------------ "You must be the change you wish to see in the world." - Ghandi IP: Logged |

I know people who are there right now. They have all told me that they would never dare shoot anyone. I don't blame them i couldn't do it. Jesus christ there could be a picture of a mass murder and let me guess they believed in the cause and fought for freedom?
give me a break

No, not really. There's a big difference to me between a mass murderer and a soldier defending their country. But maybe that's just me. It's one thing to have a problem with "the cause", it's another thing entirely to project that problem onto other people that perhaps don't feel the same way you do. I don't necessarily agree with the way we embarked upon this war. I am aware something needed to be done about Saddam. I still don't understand the exact and definite connections between Osama Bin Laden (still at large) and Co. attacking us on 911 and Saddam, with (or without, whichever way you swing) his WMD's, being a part of that same specific attack. However, I can still be glad that the Iraqi people have been liberated from that foul creature and that their elections have gone so much better than, it seems, most expected. But I still can't see the comparison between a soldier fighting for his country and a mass murderer. Hitler believed in his cause. In fact, for a long time, a lot of people believed in his cause. And, for a long time, the U.S. did not get involved. Show me a picture of Hitler and I won't be as sad as I will be utterly repulsed and horrified. Show me a picture of those horrid concentration camps still standing today and I will certainly feel very, very sad. But show me a picture of soldiers who fought in that war and I will certainly not be overtly sad. For those soldiers believed in what they were doing and set out to stop a loathsome, evil mass murderer from continuing his reign of terror. I don't believe I know of any mass murderers that have fought for freedom. Perhaps I've missed something along the way?------------------ "You must be the change you wish to see in the world." - Ghandi IP: Logged |
