Regardless of whether or not the President out-and-out said this, it is still pretty evident this is what the higher-ups in our country think. The Constitution has been disregarded for years. IP: Logged |

When someone makes a specific allegation, it IS important that it be factually true.Who are these higher-ups in our country you're talking about? Are you talking about the Republicans who have been and are excoriating the Supreme Court for feel good rulings which cannot be supported by the Constitution; finding within the wording of the Constitution that which is nowhere to be found there? Are you talking about the blind Supreme Court Justices who have ruled, and ruled against the Constitutional Fifth Amendment which says private property may be taken by eminent domain...for a PUBLIC use...when the use was not a public use but merely to turn private property over to another private party? Are you talking about the Supreme Court amending the Constitution de facto without going through the Amendment process...as clearly spelled out in the Constitution itself? What specifically are you referring to? IP: Logged |

I can think of a number of items in the constitution and bill of rights that have been ignored for at least 20 years ever since that great president "the great communicator" Ronald Regan instituted the persecution of a segment of the American population known to some of you as the farcical "war on drugs"------------------ After silence, that which comes nearest to expressing the inexpressible is music." - Aldous Huxley IP: Logged |

Hahaah, it's not persecution to arrest, charge, convict, and imprison those who commit crimes. Many of those imprisoned committed crimes to get the money to commit the underlying crime, some of those were violent crimes involving armed robbery, assault and murder. Why this soft spot for druggies goatgirl? Most of those imprisoned had multiple arrests and convictions for drug use and or dealing. Most were given probation and rehab, even after multiple arrests and convictions...and multiple opportunities for rehab..before they were sent to prison. Were it not for the violent crimes some of them commit to get the money to support their drug habits, I would be in favor of leaving them alone. But, the violent crimes are part of the equation. That, and protecting them from themselves. IP: Logged |

I was actually referring to something very particular, Jwhop, but I'd rather not bring it up in this thread. It has a way of taking subjects off topic, if you know what I mean. The examples you mention illustrate the point excellently, though. And I'm also of the opinion that the Patriot Act, if it doesn't outright infringe upon the Constitution, comes dangerously close to doing so. IP: Logged |
