God bless both you and Lialei for caring, D. God bless all those in the world who truly care and are doing all they can possibly do to create equality and humane conditions for all in the world.

Sadly, in a male dominated, power hungry world, women's issues aren't even a blip on the map - except, to other women - and they have to push the male machine to even give the issues a passing nod. But, that's about all they give.

Although I think, in Afghanistin - this was/is one characteristic of the Taliban regime that clearly identified how cruel of a regime it really is.

Lialei,

I just cant imagine or believe how some people get it ingrained in their head that it's acceptable. The women are highly valued, overly protected and are thought of as property and a representation of the family I suppose. It goes so far that if the girl does something against the family values/morals, then she degrades and dishonours the family and ancestors.

Im sure there are police investigations into honour killings and suicides, or "conspiracy to murder"...how well the police investigators work the case is another story...Im not sure how it is in Turkey.

D for Defiant,

yes its critical we continue to care about such things.

Mirandee,

you're no prude...I do feel the same way (or maybe we're both prudes).

It's an atrocity how common the abuse and rape of women are all over the world. Lialei, posted a few articles on one of Africa's largest wars, in Congo, and I couldnt believe how many cases of women and children being sexually assaulted and raped there!! 25,000 reported cases last year alone, abused as weapons of war!! Imagine how many werent reported. This world is the pitts.
