Our troops in Afghanistan prove they've retained their sense of humor with the following: YOU MIGHT BE A TALIBAN IF... 1. You refine heroin for a living, but you have a moral objection to beer. 2. You own a $3,000 machine gun and $5,000 rocket launcher, but you can't afford shoes. 3. You have more wives than teeth. 4. You wipe your tail with your bare left hand, but consider bacon "unclean." 5. You think vests come in two styles: bullet-proof and suicide. 6. You can't think of anyone you haven't declared Jihad against. 7. You consider television dangerous, but you routinely carry explosives in your clothing. 8. You were amazed to discover that cell phones have uses other than setting off roadside bombs. 9. You've ever uttered the phrase, "I love what you've done with your cave." 10. You have nothing against women and think every man should own at least one. 11. You bathe at least monthly whether you think it's necessary or not. 12. You've got a crush on your neighbor's goat. ------------------ "Don't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia." Charles Schultz IP: Logged |

Sing along kiddies (and remember to sing it when you visit Pakistan):They're far from staid after a raid Those Taliban spouting Koranic quotes They hide their women away for they much prefer their goats The Taliban don't eat their treats Not one of them's a glutton. So isn't it a marvel That they always smell of mutton? Ok, I got that from this song: They're far from staid after a raid Those men of Zhentil Keep: They kill off all the women For they much prefer the sheep. The Zhents don't eat their ill-got treat; Not one of them's a glutton. So isn't it a marvel That they always smell of mutton? --The Ballad of the Zhentish Raiders, by Danilo Thann of Waterdeep (as shared by Elaine Cunningham in her book Elfshadow). I believe that you can get away with calling goat "mutton" as well. IP: Logged |

You might be culturally biased/ignorant if....I find mocking people's poverty and desperation to be quite, quite unfunny. How about, you might be a right wing imperialist war profiteer that gets rich off the lives of young men and women if....
1.You accidentally shoot your friends while hunting
2.You have a poor command of the Enlish language 3.You resemble a monkey, or Darth Vader 4.You use religion as a facade for descruction Hmm what else can we add? IP: Logged |

Poverty and desperation? Are you deluded? A terrorist is just that--a terrorist. They do not deserve our pity or our admiration. I always thought you to be a lot of things, BR, but I never took you for a Taliban sympathizer. ------------------ "Don't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's neither pity, admiration, nor sympathy. Before a terrorist becomes a terrorist, they were someone's child. They had an infancy, they grew up, they were indoctrinated with values of ignorance and hatred. They were once innocent and had the potential for love and happiness. The choices outlined above indicate people who live in poverty. People who do not have access to toilets or sanitary conditions. I give them, and the targets of their attacks, my compassion. I know what it feels like to be consumed by hatred. It is not a pleasant feeling. I wish for them to live better lives where they don't have to be full of hatred and false ideology that causes them to be misguided enough to actually kill a human being. I wish for you to have a life of peace and joy too Randall. Thanks for reading my post and acknowledging me. IP: Logged |

Point being that right now, they are terrorists. Their past is inconsequential. We have to deal with the present. And that means eliminating the threat. ------------------ "Don't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia." Charles Schultz IP: Logged |

I agree with you that the threat needs to be eliminated. What I disagree is the means by which it is eliminated. I don't think you can eliminate an ideological problem by eliminating people. It has never worked, historically. It didn't work in Vietnam. It didn't work in Korean. It's not working now. IP: Logged |

In neither of your other examples did they come over here to blow us up. This is quite a different scenario. I'd much rather have them kept occupied in the Middle East than to fight their so-called Holy War in my proverbial back yard. I doubt a terrorist can be "rehabilitated." We can deal with what "causes" a terrorist as well, but as far as those who already live that ideology goes, sending them to meet those virgin maidens is the best thing we can do for all concerned. ------------------ "Don't worry about the world coming to an end today. I see what you're saying Randall, there is some truth in it.Unfortunately, I believe the Iraq war falls in the category of vietnam and korea. IP: Logged |
