Allow me to be a dreamer LOL

If i were the president , I will limit the term of president to 4 years and raise the minimum age limit to 55 and bar anyone over 66 from running for the office . This is as per todays health /mortality standards. This could change if we become more advanced.

This Obama is a shame to have been elected with such less experience. Pundits says he is spending 850 b in a recession economy making even FDR roll in his grave.
But we cannot use the same yardstick to compare the two situations. Government spending is a good thing provided the money is from the collection from taxpayers. It is a bad thing if US publishes its own currency. I wonder how long the world would credit to US. Perhaps we being the number 1 economy in the world is still good enough for the world to fuel our growth. Whatever happens, time should reveal.

If I were the president , I will propose fair tax for properties . It is state controlled I know, but I will recommend the congress to look in to it. An old house or new house should pay the same rate. The current differentiation is discriminatory.

I will let the private sectors run as such without government intervention.

I will reduce corporate tax and ensure US gets business from many countries.

I will preserve woods in each ones community.

I will respect the wishes of the rich as well as the poor and reach some common ground on issues.

I will not grant money to faith based groups. They are seeped in corruption and propagate blind beliefs. Reagan and Bush were both bad examples of what they did when they funded poor countries. I do not like faith based orgs or their leaders . There is one exemption however when the leaders are different, as in the case of Pope John Paul I who died under mysterious circumstances and his tenure was the shortest in their history , mere 33 days. Some say that he was going to investigate mafia/ vatican bank connection. They also say he died under mysterious circumstances.

I will make every hunter support a wildlife program and only then give them license for hunting.

I would overhaul our education system.

I would take a shot at poverty. It is not holy and it is not karma either. I will reach out to the individual not with my political charisma but the charisma that comes from the beyond. that kind face that one remembers and will never forget. Kindda like what happened to Barabbas when he met Jesus at his trials. He was a murderer and taken aback to see a innocent 33 year guy being executed while he was being freed.

i would give back the liberty that the government has taken away. no slavery won't be back nor segragation. rather acceptance of all and peaceful coexistence of people.

Also will not use developing nations as dumping grounds for plastic and other hazardous materials. I will ensure even they grow with us.

Lots of other things... but gotta go now.

well judging by all the going-extinct species i guess even wampum is subject to recession! but barter and trade could work pretty well. of course one of the reasons we have money is it's simpler than working out how much your corn is worth compared to my horseshoes, if you see what i mean.

i don't think there's been a recession-proof exchange system invented yet. care to try it quinnie?

Well Kat, since you asked.

I would immediately stop...and instruct every Executive Branch employee to stop badmouthing and talking down the economy. Words have consequences because they create "perceptions" and perceptions get put into practice..whether the perception is reality or not.

I would constitute a temporary Bank of the United States to buy the defaulted mortgage loans lenders were forced to make to those unable to make their mortgage payments. Those loans would not be bought at their face value but at the present market value of the properties. These loans have value because they are collateralized by "real property". I would have letters sent to all those whose mortgages are in default or foreclosure and a payment schedule they can make would be instituted. If that meant the loan had to be extended to 40 or 48 years and interest on the notes had to be reduced to lower payments, that's what would happen. Keeping people in their homes is a primary economic fix because the housing market has to be stabilized to stop falling home prices. All these foreclosed properties hitting the for sale columns put housing prices in free fall and no one knows where the bottom of that market is. People are loath to purchase homes when they're not sure the home won't be worth less than they paid in 6 months or a year. I would use the remaining 350 billion in TARP funds and however much more it took to get that job done. For fat cats the current situation creates a buying bonanza as they buy up properties...they will never live in...at pennies on the dollar prices...properties they can hold and resell into a rising real estate market...later. That's not what's needed now. We need to keep people in their own homes.

I would immediately repeal the "Mark to Market" rule. This alone would make many banks and lending institutions "solvent" or near solvent because the congressional morons instituted rules following the dot com bust and financial scandal which forced lenders who are covered by the rule to "mark" non performing loans to 0 value...even though the underlying property which secures the note and mortgage DOES have value and the lenders have a financial interest in those properties until the note and mortgage is paid in full.

I would immediately dissolve the contracts some financial institutions wrote...called "Credit Default Swaps". These financial instruments have a staggering amount of dollar downside..trillions..for those who wrote them...because of all the mortgage defaults. This is and was an unregulated market and in effect, it's gambling. Gambling that the default swaps institutions sold would not be defaulted upon and on the other side..those who bought them bet they would default. Gambling is a regulated industry in the United States and those who participated in unregulated gambling would have their contracts voided. One of the primary rules found in the "Law of Contracts" is that the "contract" must have a "lawful object". If not, the contract is void or voidable. I would apply "equity" and put the parties back in their original positions. Those who wrote the financial instruments called "default swaps" would have to pay back the buyers the money they collected and the contracts would be dissolved at that point.

I would immediately press for an extension of unemployment compensation benefits for those unemployed but able to work.. for at least another 6 months...and if necessary..for another 6 months after that.

I would immediately announce support for and press the Congress to extend the Bush tax cuts for businesses and individuals beyond 2010. I would immediately stop talking about raising taxes on businesses...the engine of the US economy and employers for those who need JOBS.

I would immediately announce support for and press the Congress to lower the tax rates on the bottom 2 rungs of the tax ladder...from 15% of taxable income to 10% and for the lowest rung on the economic tax ladder..from 10% of taxable income to 5%.

I would announce support for and press Congress to cut the employers share of payroll/employment taxes in half...for new employees they hire...and for a 2 year period.

I would..very quietly tell Nancy Pee-lousy and Harry Reid that the "Economic Stimulus Bill" as it's currently constituted..is dead on arrival because I'll veto it if it gets past the Senate. This is not an "economic stimulus package" at all. It's a collection of wet dreams wish lists of every kooky spending proposal by government for the last 40 years. Wet dreams spending projects that could never be passed as a stand alone bill in Congress. It's a democrat payback for single issue voters and supporters of democrat causes and in a jwhop administration...it's DOA. It does little to nothing to stimulate the private sector and even where it might have a small impact, the money won't be spent in the near term but in outlying years when the economy will already be in recovery...or destroyed by the brain dead morons and imbeciles in the Congress. This bill creates about 600,000 government jobs which tend to be permenant but almost no jobs in the private sector...which is the economic engine of the US economy.

I would take a chainsaw and begin to hack wasteful useless programs and agencies out of the US government and also those programs and agencies which duplicate the efforts of other programs and agencies...and there's a hell of a lot of that going on.

I would immediately instruct the Justice Department to go after businesses large and small who employ illegal aliens...with criminal prosecutions...not with fines.

I would fast track the building of the border fence and get it done post haste. We do not need people coming into the US illegally taking jobs when so many US citizens are out of work. I would secure the US borders...period.

I would force those corporations and other businesses who look for foreign workers...on the pretext there are no qualified Americans to fill those positions...to justify hiring foreign non citizens. They would be required to show they advertised for qualified Americans and no one qualified applied. Otherwise, they're not going to get approval..green cards for foreign born hirees.

I would fill the "Stategic Petroleum Reserve" with cheap oil.

I would announce support for and pressure Congress to open ANWAR to drilling and production of crude oil and natural gas.

I would announce support for and pressure Congress for offshore drilling...off California, in the Gulf of Mexico, off the coast of Alaska and off the East coast..while alternatives to carbon based fuels are explored, developed and brought to market. Solar, wind, ethanol from any sources are not the answer.

I would announce support for and pressure Congress to remove the blizzard of rules and regulations pertaining to building nuclear power plants and oil refineries and...bypass the courts in which radicals sue and either halt building or make it so expensive that these projects can't be done.

I would immediately stop efforts to put in place any "carbon cap and trade" scheme in progress...and veto any legislation which got through the Congress. We do not need to spend untold trillions of dollars on the hoax of man made global warming. We do not need to implement policies which will skyrocket the price of energy and vitrually every thing we buy...including food.

I would immediately stop any provisions which would have the effect of doing away with secret ballots in Union Organizing. This is one of the most un-American schemes I've seen and smacks of thugs intimidating voters...ala the Socialsit regimes of Saddam, Castro and other Socialist thugs.

Well, that's a start but far from the entire package. This is domestic and there's also foreign policy...which O'Bomber seems hell bent on screwing up.

But, for these times, I would completely stop dead in it's track attempts by Congress to meddle in the private sector...and I would have veto pens at the ready..crates of veto pens if necessary. That's the overriding reason the economy is in the fix it's in now. That doesn't mean there are no rules. Far from it but rather than slaps on the wrist fines for corporate/business illegality, I would instruct the Justice Department to prosecute corporate fraud and illegality with criminal prosecutions of CEO's, CFO's and upper level managers.

thanks for replying jw...i will have to give myself some time to read through this again. unsurprisingly you have some good ideas...i'll leave it at that for now.

edit: i agree with you that there is too much playing up of how "bad" things are. 7.5% unemployment means 92.5% IN employment! can we not take care of our own?

Jwhop it sounds like you know what you are talking about. A few questions if ya on't mind... When the financial situation is stable would you make further changes ie. increase, decrease minimum wage, taxes, rates etc?
Would you change the education system at all?
Would you make changes to the health service?
What about humanitarian issues and the international agenda? How would you deal with them?
How would you tackle some of the social issues, for example the clear distinction between the classes, the statistics that go with that.... They match the social environment, how are you going to change the statistics unless you change the input to the social environment?
I'm not sure what way the death penalty works in the US. Am I correct in saying that some states use the death penalty and others don't?
Does the president then have the ability to overturn this and apply the same rule for all states?
What would you enforce, are you for or against the death penalty?

"When President Kennedy was entertaining a collection of Nobel Prize winning scientists at a White House dinner, his opening remarks were....

"The White House has never witnessed such a collection of brainpower in one place, except perhaps, when Thomas Jefferson dined alone."

Thomas Jefferson - Words of Wisdom

1. When we get piled upon one another in large cities, as in Europe, we shall become as corrupt as Europe.
Thomas Jefferson

2. The democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not.
Thomas Jefferson

3. It is incumbent on every generation to pay its own debts as it goes. A principle which if acted on would save one-half the wars of the world.
Thomas Jefferson

4. I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them.
Thomas Jefferson

5. My reading of history convinces me that most bad government results from too much government.
Thomas Jefferson

6. No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms.
Thomas Jefferson

7. The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government.
Thomas Jefferson

8. The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
Thomas Jefferson

9. To compel a man to subsidize with his taxes the propagation of ideas which he disbelieves and abhors is sinful and tyrannical.
Thomas Jefferson

And One Very Interesting Quote.....

In light of the present financial crisis, it's interesting to read what Thomas Jefferson said in 1802:
“I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies. If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around the banks will deprive the people of all property until their children wake-up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered.”
Thomas Jefferson"

i received this today. timely indeed! although it may look long it is not mind-boggling to read and states my basic beliefs about governments pretty well.

i would love to see taxes adhering to jefferson's belief that NO MAN should be forced to pay for programs, laws or wars in which he does not believe. i would even go so far as to allow people to not pay taxes to the government who gave 10% of their take to causes or persons who would benefit the community thereby.

i am glad to see that food stamps and medical benefits, amongst other "freebies", are not really free...community service or 30 hours of work are now expected of people claiming benefits.

though i believe in compassionate government i also believe in impeccable government. unfortunately trying all corrupt politicians would be HUGELY EXPENSIVE. it would include virtually 99% of all of them! the IRS is already too big. the justice system has plenty to do. i would declare amnesty for PAST deeds and create a more accountable system whereby the fat cats cannot hide their income in their corporations.

as president i would like to see power devolved in government and business to where there is more individual input and control, ie go in the opposite direction to where the world appears to be heading. my original suggestion of sending politicians on holiday and throwing the business of government back on more local authorities and communities stands.

however not BEING a politician i do not really have a good idea how to implement this. we are so much bigger and more complex than we used to be.

another revolution?? this IS the pluto return time for the us...

Just because you are not a politician doesn't mean to say that you can't influence the people (who still can hold the power if they are empoered enough)

Kat I agree about the tax issue
"i would love to see taxes adhering to jefferson's belief that NO MAN should be forced to pay for programs, laws or wars in which he does not believe. i would even go so far as to allow people to not pay taxes to the government who gave 10% of their take to causes or persons who would benefit the community thereby."

This is part of Linda's money mistique is it not? Tax is just another name for donation only the implying seed behind it that it is compulsory and so instills the fear in people which influences their entire mind set especially their economic mind set.

Instead of paying taxes people should 'Donate' 10% of their wage to a cause in their community they believe in but it should still be evenly distributed.

I happen to believe that those who don't work, don't work because the wage they would be entitled to is an utter insult. Why would someone take pride in their work or even want to work if it they can barely survive on their reward.
Most people spend money they wouldn't normally spend just getting to work, money for transport, work clothing, food etc. should this at least not be covered by their wage?
What determines who's job is more worthwhile than another's?
Is a doctor more worthwhile than a shop assistant (who is a parent to 5 kids?)

Quinnie, I would leave the minimum wage alone. This wage scale is supposed to be for entry level employees...not those in their middle age trying to support a family. Those kinds of jobs were for summer school jobs and those just out of high school who hadn't decided what they were going to do with their lives...university, trade school, apprenticeship etc.

I would make a run at abolishing the IRS and repealing the 16th Amendment...as well as repealing the Federal Reserve Act of 1913. What we really need is a National Sales Tax..."The Fair Tax" which would take the place of all employment taxes...social security, disability and income tax. A tax of about 15-17% on consumption would cover all the revenue needed by the federal government...to run the legitimate functions of government.

Every tax accountant, every tax attorney, every Marxist, Communist Socialist would oppose scraping the income tax. The idea for a heavy, progressive income tax on the wages and salaries of working people came straight out of the ass of Karl Marx. Marx is dead. It's time to kill all the stepchildren of this 5th rate 19th Century non-thinker.

well i am all for repealing the bogus 16th. but i think you are being a bit harsh on the unemployed and working poor when you put that high a sales tax on everything...there are plenty of people in this country who don't qualify for any income tax at all because they are barely making enough to pay for food and essential goods as it is...what do we do about them?

having lived in countries where the sales tax is that high i have seen how expensive it can make some pretty basic supplies and services..

Going to a national sales tax would have the immediate effect of lowering the price of everything we buy...when the taxes businesses pay for employment taxes for employees are eliminated.

Further, there would be no sales taxes on food and basic necessities.

Going to a national sales tax on consumption would also make American businesses more competitive in world markets which would increase exports AND provide more jobs for Americans.

Eliminating the IRS would also lower the cost of government.

Since taxes would become immediately voluntary. You would decide if you want to pay the tax when you decide to buy ...or not buy.

As it is now, the Internal Revenue Code SAYS "income taxes are based on self assessment...and "voluntary" compliance.

Try not volunteering and see what happens.

but jwhop what would you do with all the unemployed people who have been working for the government??
