How could anyone look at the site you posted to back up something which wasn't contested.

The link you posted is dead and produces a error message.

sorry bout that! it was working when i posted it, i checked! it was the first or second option to come up when i googled "distribution of wealth america" and it says i was wrong. the top 1% do not show up as earning/owning 90% of the assets in this country. thank you for looking. another reason i don't post my resources i guess! it is still there and THEIR resource is a survey sponsored by the federal reserve.

Well, I'd like to read what's there...not to disprove what you say but for the general information the site may contain.

Could you access the site, click on the address in the address box, copy the address of their home page and paste it here?

The link doesn't work, because when you click on it, you see at the end of the address this:

Remove that, and the link works fine.

Thanks acoustic. I was able to access the site.

OK, for purposes of discussion, let's accept the proposition put forth that it's wealth which is concentrated in a relatively few hands in the US...and not income.

So, there goes the notion of taxing the incomes of the rich as an equalizer...right out the window. Wealth is not taxed, income is taxed.

So, what do the wealthy do with their money? They spend it on whatever takes their fancy and in large amounts, on homes, cars, boats, planes, decorating, clothes, vacations...and you name it.

Another reason for a national sales tax to replace the income tax. A tax on comsumption and not on productive labor.

Jwhop -you are smart to have left California that early on.I have a lot to learn from you.

Katatonic , thank you VEEEERRRRYYY much for revealing the intellectual range of a liberal feminist - us conservative feminists have hitherto only speculated about it

quote:

you come here criticizing women's lib but where do you think your right to work comes from??

Really Kat ? Women in the U.S. were farmers, industrail workers and all else that men were since the day settlers came here. Some of them did chose on grounds of affluence not to sweat it out in jobs that involved physical dangers - that is the extent of " Oppression"

Show me the proof that women were ever NOT allowed to work my liberal-feminist - misinformation - spewing sister - in the U.S. or in my poor , third world country where half the workforce is female and has been as far as recorded history goes.

ROFL

quote:

perhaps we should go back to the good old days when your opinion would be expressible only to a very few very confidential friends, and your face hidden behind a veil.

Great , that is your comeback, in the absence of Right brain Logic function - threatening me with what ended in the times of my great grandmother, because the indian women -kidnapping - muslims had been put in place by the British - in our indian culture. My granny worked with my grandpa in his cotton business - supervising the workers without a veil - back in the 40's at the age of 18.

The least you could have done is google on the Purdah system and you wouldnt look like such an ASS.

quote:

and how is your plan to suck dollars out of america so you can live in the third world like a rajah contributing to my wealth??

Do you even understand what a business involves Kat ?

It involves creating value for your customers , in my case american .

It also involves creating wealth not only for oneself but for all those who are on your payroll - that runs their homes and families - in my case they too will be American.

Which means i will be a channel of abundnce not only for myself but for those who work for me not to mention those who do business with me - the middlemen.

So take your " Sucking Dollars out of America " idea and shove it .

And just so you know - in our third world Slumdog city we have all the best things money can buy.

Real estate in Mumbai is as expensive as Manhattan, Rolls Royces litter our streets and Versace boutiques seldom need a stock clearance sale.

Good Life - for those who can afford it.

And expats from America equal 400000 at last count in my trashy homeland.People who have made their pile and are enjoying the low cost of living.

Gotta tell them to shove more dollars in our poor country - we could do with them.

As for my spiteful posts -

How come no one complained when i was attacking the Catholic church for its Inquisitions or the Utah Polygamists for their Paedophilia ?

I have a constitutional right to damn who i want to - and it didnt come from Liberal Feminism in the 60 's asking for a right to kill babies and spreading STD freely.

Neither do you have any legal recourse from my spitefulness a.k.a. self expression involving PERSONAL opinions.

So just continue your whining.

Jwhop - the rest of the thread is a joke thanks to you - a joke at how a liberal argues - without Facts or logic and how conservatives can do them in with half a brain

I don't think I've ever heard you say that. But I like it. Gets to the heart of the issue in every sense.

except the issue that the working poor cannot afford to buy much of anything as it is. and according to some they already are paying no taxes.

venus you are entitled to your opinion. yet you rail against the US at the same time you call it "hitting the jackpot" to be here and the "best place for entrepreneurs".

it was you who proudly proclaimed your ambition to make lots of DOLLARS to go live in the third world like a rajah. i hear india is poised for a 60s type renaissance. i certainly never called it trashy. must have poked someone's shadow there! i have neither threatened you nor called you nasty names. for a self-proclaimed "sweetie" you pack a lot of venom.

you tell me to grow up and call me a liberal feminist - well i have seen a good deal more life than you, have earned every penny i have made (my father's friends did not give me jobs) AND i pay taxes. whether you are a more valuable person than i is a matter of opinion. the fact that i don't make much money does not make me less value-producing than you. a good deal of what i do goes unpaid. as for understanding business, yes, i have BEEN in business probably more years than you have been alive - though i do not have an MBA and i do not spout conservative rhetoric about all the value i produce for my workers.

i have stated elsewhere that i am NOT a liberal feminist. i might add that i am not a feminist at all...there was a time when i was a female in a male dominated business and journalists loved to make a "topic" out of this situation. then, as now, i considered my gender an unremarkable part of what i did. it was just an inalienable part of who i am. i consistently declined publicity slanted in that direction.

now i am in a business which is tough for men. not because i am a woman, but because that is what i do and people just seem to prefer women in this business. so as i double as appointment maker and practitioner, i daily fight to get people to try a male colleague despite their bias. because he is good at what he does, not because of any "fairness" doctrine.

coming from the sheltered situation you do i can understand why you think i am attacking you. however i have no need to call you ASS or more venomous epithets, only to question your vehemence. you may be "adding value" to some but you are working in MY country in a job someone american could be doing. except that their dad is not a friend of the boss. that is not a qualification where i come from.

its okay sweetheart, when i was your age i thought i knew everything too. you will outgrow it with a bit of luck.

i would still like to know, please, how i can become a non-citizen of any country as you are planning to be. do we now have global passports?

how about galactic passports?

space the final frontier.

some are ready to get on the mother ship now, from what i understand.

actually, VDL parents and teachers did a good job,she is equipped with all the tools she needs to do well in life, without the crybaby mentality or compassion that would slow her down.

as all do when growing up, she tests the boundries and limits, which shows great initiative, and although I agree with not much of anything she believes I do respect the fact that she is focused and driven, and that will serve her well. i don't have to like her, you don't have to like her,but if a disaster happened and i had to pick five people who would survive due to strength and perseverence with no or little resources, she would probobly be on the list. and that i respect. being strong has it's merits. once the shock value wears off.

that being said. california is a lovely place, i dearly miss it and need a visit...i hear they may be selling weed in the stores now. which is way overdue. tax dollars to the consumers. Just think of the untapped revenue. and the reduction of violent crime.

Strange, the last thing I heard about souther californians was they do not socialize much. Its hard to generalize , may be it was the people who bought million dollar homes and got caught up in the maintenance of big homes and struggling to pay their mortgages.

Is the government responsible for their plight they are in? May be.

I can't imagine dream industry , viz hollywood going bankrupt ever unless technology itself is to blame. Like netflix and video streaming . I am not saying its liberals who steal and believe its ethical to share entertainment but heh , who knows what happened in California. I hope new jersey does not follow its path. Right now NJ is in much better position than California.

I have to give a thumbs up to Reagan who said wealth trickles down from rich to the poor. Boy he was so right. In New Jersey, rich people have stopped donating to charities. As a result many hospitals are going bankrupt. In the past many were treated and their bills forgiven, thanks to the rich people. Infact I heard hospitals were billing insured people outrageously and that way trying to cover up the cost for treating the uninsured. But no, the majority of the people who do not contribute to the US economy have this new disease of seeing some one whom they perceive of their own kind as president. I find it ridiculous when people trust some actors and vote based on what they say. These actors who make a living pretending. God, give me a break! They dismiss the fact that he is biracial and still call him as black. They dismiss the fact that he shares no American black heritage(he being of Kenyan father who dumped America and left this country) and still smear his face on televisions and magazine.

People , people , people - so drunk on LSD. Too much drinking from the Obama kool aid.
Didn't we warn about its contents?

I remember that Cheney comment.
I mean he is a great guy right on many things but absolutely wrong on one thing. A VP should not be given dominance over senators. That defeats the whole purpose of senators, who are so powerful by the fact that they represent a whole state.

May be the current senate is filled with characters of all kind (some aged 84 from NJ) that they need slight direction.

you are aware, mannu, that reagan and schwarzenneger were actors, not obama? who are you talking about? and WHAT is the reference to koolaid that keeps getting thrown up(scuse the pun)? forgive my ignorance (and hopefully lessen it for me).

sunshine, i understand your point about venus being strong. however i don't think alienating everyone who dares to challenge your opinions is a particularly good survival technique. you are right, she is young, as i too have tried to point out, and i no more expect her to make allowances for my greater experience than i did when i was her age. that doesn't mean i agree with her or that i should shut up because she calls me names.

as to california having weed in the stores, no they have clubs where people with medical cards can get marijuana. i think the reason it is still illegal is there is more money in the "war on drugs" than there is in the possible tax revenue from sales. another huge and ridiculous arm of government which was NOT instated by liberals and which is unconstitutional in general.
