I did see a rainbow the other day.
A real one that had me grabbing ahold of my seat,
as the huge truck's windshield was
splattered with rain to obscure the colours
and I thought
how perfect. I see a rainbow
and still I must squint, my fanciful eyes alighted
yet not really seeing something so vital
in time for it to become a memory I will have squashed anyway if I dissected it rationally enough
Somehow lately, the rainbow's delight leaves before I can access it.
Before it assimilates it takes it's time coming to my lips in a smile
I am asleep in my seat
Asleep in the heat
and the coldness I feel
is only a shade of
how rainbows are real.
I used to sing songs for pleasure
I used to paint with purpose
believing for fleeting minutes at a time I was good
but not too good....
and now no motive means-
-no medium screams to me
it will melt when I feel what I mean
with his lips
with their lips
though I know they aren't really needed
only a small place I carve to hide in
that lets in the shining light of their words..
in their delight, I alight
and I know it is me
parts of me
I know they see
and I want to see what they see
I want to feel the wonder that somehow is me............
and I paint myself like this.
I paint my dreams with talent, on their lips
while I hold a mirror to paint my own
how is a worth shown....
How do I escape delight
Or stop trying to make his night
what about mine, am I really that gone
am I really that young
don't I know better....
what is real isn't even real any longer
and if I feel enough rawness with their need
perhaps it will end this greed
I don't understand why
I need
to be needed
I am more than walking.. I am dancing
I am dancing in a dizzying pattern on the edge
no true dance steps
watching a toe dangle daringly over the precipace
I am making myself slip and I am not terrified at the danger I see glaring at me
though maybe I should be..........
change has never bothered me...
Maybe if I fall, my dress will have a better purpose
around my waist
it will billow and allow the air purchase
on my skin
and when I land graceful as a pillow
my hair blanketting around my features
I will look up and see that rainbow I missed through the glass
and the silence I missed through the humming of his engine
their engines.
Maybe it won't matter what they think
that I am soft and pink
and penetrable
not hard like I wish
I could be
not vulnerable as I am
but they can't see.

Pixie, I keep returning to your poem. It makes me contemplate the masks we wear to hide ours-Elves. But who are we hiding from

Love to you

Whoa.. something in those words that echo deep pix

I love these type of poems. The words you used were so simple & direct to make your point.. this really got me;

quote:
I used to sing songs for pleasure
I used to paint with purpose
believing for fleeting minutes at a time I was good
but not too good....
and now no motive means-
-no medium screams to me
it will melt when I feel what I mean..

I relate to that beacuse I see my internal silence like that right now. I used to write with feeling, now I'm kinda silent - like nothing's moving me, or I'm just waiting?

I think it's a Gooberz-type poem, it has many metaphorical qualities.

quote:
..and when I land graceful as a pillow
my hair blanketting around my features
I will look up and see that rainbow I missed through the glass..

*sigh*

------------------
"We see everything through a glass, darkly. Sometimes we can peer through the glass and catch a glimpse of what is on the other side. If we were to polish the glass clean, we'd see much more. But then we would no longer see ourselves." From 'Deep Quotes'

Thanks so much Sheaa.. you put a lot of effort into reading what I put a lot of effort into writing. I appreciate it.. thank you.
I wrote one before, (I can't remember which one) that you commented was 'goober-ish' too..... and it is a very nice feeling to have something I feel, described this way.
Thanks for making my day.

Pixie, your poems are pretty amazing. You should think about publishing them.

This was such a good one I just had to read it again. Thought I'd bump it up while I was at it.
I bet Sylvia wishes she wrote this.

The poem just melted into me- thats the only way i could describe it, and this part, like sheaa said, this really got me too

"I used to sing songs for pleasure
I used to paint with purpose
believing for fleeting minutes at a time I was good
but not too good....
and now no motive means-
-no medium screams to me
it will melt when I feel what I mean.."

O space and time! now I see it is true, what I guess'd at,
What I guess'd when I loaf'd on the grass,
What I guess'd while I lay alone in my bed,
And again as I walk'd the beach under the paling stars of the morning.*
