They built a tan brick in our neighborhood and said it would make us better. But the bright-eyed day that saw a wide-eyed child take his first step in, was the last he was ever seen. Year by year they scooped his insides out in the name of "what's best for you." In the sterile halls 'Tween the tan brick's walls There are predators at play Fragile souls Are the first to go Shell-schocked into growing up By the cruelties of the day. Scarred and disillusioned By the tan brick early on That same boy some years later Comes home twisted and withdrawn... The years will pass as he makes someone rich In precise, robotic ways He'll have his own When he is grown And when they're 5 or 6 he'll say: "You'll be going to that tan brick, kids The day is coming soon" Then for 13 years They'll scoop their insides out In the name of "what's best for you."daf see also: From kid to coppertop in 13 years
