i wouldnt feel bad about not *getting* the whole philosophy thing- i was a bit 'huh?' when some of my more 'film buff' friends started going on about it in far too much depth after we had seen it.it does really pi$$ me off when some people consider themselves more intelligent because they *get* certain films. some people i know spent AGES discussing David Lynch films and i was seriously going to kill myself cos i was so bored. its so stupid! someone can enjoy a film without going into the deep seated metaphors and imagery of the film. half the stuff some people *get* about a film would probably make the director go "no sorry you've totally got the wrong end of the stick". nobody get the wrong idea- i dont mean anyone here, its nice to have this discussion about the matrix without the pretentious bull. just having a vent about my more irritating friends. im done now. I liked the Zion "orgy" (people called it an orgy, but it wasn't, really, was it?) because of the reasons anafaery previously stated: it was erotic, energetic, and innocent. You don't have to treat The Matrix as a deep, philosophical puzzle. It's also a very good action movie. And all the characters are so stylish!! ------------------ Hello everybody! sylven i could never be upset with you ash, i know! i hate pretentiousness too, although im sure im not immune to it at times. i try not to be though. i just love this movie as its one of the few i honestly do 'get'. i dont begrudge anyone for not liking it, its a personal thing i spose, im just so happy for what its done for me that i love to discuss it and see what others things. i found it to have some profound truths in it, and it made me excited and happy. queen, i dont think it was an orgy either, it was a celebration!!! celebration of spirit, and that they *did* have their 'real' bodies, and the speech by morph right before, it was so filled with freedom and spirit! i loved that part so much. i just absorbed all of the underlying feelings that were on screen, it was great and made me feel happy to be alive. i agree too with you, that it doesnt have to be treated as a philosophical puzzle, its a great movie on its own merit. the stunts left me with my jaw dropped, the fight scenes were like poetry in motion, it was just a very well produced flick if you ask me. i spose part of that awe of mine might be because i saw it in IMAX, so dont blame me for being so blown away. i do though see many philosophical elements in it which is why i am so enthused and why i was curious what you all thought. ~abstractifaery ------------------ where i end and you begin there's a gap in between there's a gap where we meet where i end and you begin and i'm sorry for us the dinosaurs roam the earth the sky turns green where i end and you begin i am up in the clouds i am up in the clouds and i can't and i can't come down IP: Logged |

The first Matrix is one of my all time favorite films. I thought it was interesting how someone (pardon me I can't remember who) related Neo's name with perhaps a new order of resistance. I thought his name was just a scrambling of the word "One", because he was supposed to be "The One". Actually I thought his presence was essentially the missing element to the collective "One". All of the characters were necessary in order to create "The One". An aspect that I probably found most meaningful was when Neo, who had been killed, was resurrected by Trinity's Love. Love resurrected Neo from death, a profound statement. The second Matrix was also enjoyable. I loved the eroticism. The highway chase scenes, and replicant agent fight scenes went on far too long, I thought. I also thought the ending was abrupt and seemed not make sense. I'll have to watch it a few more times to try to understand what the heck they were talking about in some of those scenes. Just a note, the Oracle ( I think her name was Gloria Foster) died a year or so ago. What a great character and actress. Peace. IP: Logged |

she died??? awwww that makes me really sad i really liked her a lot. what a cool lady. i agree with what you say, about when trinity saved neo. i do think that love can move mountains, in a symbolic way of course. SPOILER ALERT FOR MATRIX RELOADED . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . and isnt it perfect how he saved her? in quite a dramatic way. in the second movie trinity was so... forlorn. i felt so sad for her. its hard to be the lover of a chosen one, you know? i think you are on target when you say that they are all parts of the One, thats an interesting theory. about the fights, i totally *should* have thought they went on too long, but oddly i didnt. it was just poetry to me, it was a beautiful dance. i was rapt throughout those scenes. i blame it on imax, lol. its just so hard to not be totally involved when the film experience is so encompassing. the ending *was* abrupt, and i was annoyed! i understand why though, so i forgive them. the time until matrix 3 is out is waaaay shorter than it was from 1 to 2. they were filmed at the same time. the first matrix was actually added after to give people a sort of warm up to the original, explain some things before they saw the 'real' movie, which is 2 and 3. im glad they did, as there would have been a lot i didnt understand if i had of started watching from the second one. it was nice to have the setup. i cannot WAIT for 3 btw nice to meet you simone thanks for dropping by this little niche thread! ~matrixfaery ------------------ where i end and you begin there's a gap in between there's a gap where we meet where i end and you begin and i'm sorry for us the dinosaurs roam the earth the sky turns green where i end and you begin i am up in the clouds i am up in the clouds and i can't and i can't come down IP: Logged |

I, like some here, have been and usually stay out of the popularity scene. I had heard of the Matrix barely. I was told by one that it was great and mind-blowing, he could barely discribe it. The only thing I could relate to, in his telling, was that of a series of Dark Novels known as Shadowrun. It has a thing called the matrix, but it was more of an immanant future, and based of the "evolution" that was predicted by the Mayan Calander and translated to the year 2011/2012 (depending on source). There are parallels in the stories. When I saw it I was shocked. I felt (and I tend to do this sort of thing) like I was Neo, and that this was talking to me. (I have got to stay away from the Messiah trip though.) Yet it still remains as the most powerful film experience I have had, second to LOTR ( i had read the novels previous to watching the film). Once while watching the film, I was set into a trance that I had never felt. I associated it with doing acid, at the moment it hit me, but I had never experimented with hallucinagincis, previous to this experience. I have yet to see what is not there, like others discribe from there experiences, but I have experienced thoughts that I felt belong to those around me, and various formations of light. I have seen all 3 films of the Matrix, and also the Animatrix. I got to see that before Reloaded, which it was, in part, meant to be a precursor to the continuance of the series. ??? I am wondering has any one seen the Animatrix and what do they think of it? ??? The animated films go off in tangents of possibilites, I didn't even imagine from watching the main story line. I have many "awakening experiences since then." Actually I consider the film to be my first, having not had nothing more than a biblical background previous to watching the film. Oh, and the man who sat me down to watch it had taken me in a student. This man had always done some supprizing things, and I could feel that he was watching my progress with everything he did. It even seemed that he was enjoying seeing my expression as I watched, and he seem to encourage thoughts I was having while I had not even completed them. To answer the question of the topic. I would say it was the later before it became the former, and these guys must have had some "help." But like the song "Nothing Else Matters," It can be taken out of context and used to the self-abuse of the student. ------------------ Daniel Son "It's just a phase and I want it to be over soon!" 7 Years ago "The Matrix" set the wheels in motion for a meeting with a real life "Morpheus..." Now the "splinter" in my mind was always there but The Matrix sped the whole process into hyperdrive! A search for the truth that led to something beyond even "my" wildest dreams Keep an eye out for "White Rabbits"! They can take all shapes and forms, don't be afraid to just throw something crazy together to unlock the truth that is buried in your mind waiting to be awoken ...Take this as a "white rabbit" moment spoken by a true Neo! Here is a lexi of my name that was hiding in me all along! ******************************************** [THE ANOMALY] [THE ETERNAL MORTAL WHO DREAMT A REAL DREAM] [YOUR GREAT WAR NOW GONE AN EON LONG] ******************************************* [A DREAM REALM A EON GONE ON EARTH] [THAT DREAM REALM HELD YOUR TRUTH] [YOUR REAL POWER] [YOUR HOME] [THERE... YOU WERE THE ONE] [YET YOUR HEART LED YOU HERE] [NOW YOU ARE HERE] [NOW YOU ARE HOME] [NOW YOU ARE ONE] [THE ONE RETURNED] [ARE YOU NOW HOME?] [YEA... THE TRUTH LED ME HERE!!!] [WHERE?] [EARTH....!!] [MY REAL HOME...] I am NOT "sepcial"... "EVERYONE" is a Neo, its just that most are still asleep...... are you? IP: Logged | |
