Question!!

Now, I don't think there are message in EVERYTHING but something tells me that I'm supposed to look into this one further because there's something behind it.

I was sitting in my office at work today when a coworker walks in and says "Do you have food in your car?"

I thought this an odd question but I answered truthfully, "Er.... no."

"Are you SURE?"

"Yes, I'm sure... why?"

"There are two crows on your car and I've been watching them all morning. I even tried to chase them away a couple times but they came back. One of them is trying to get inside. I've NEVER seen anything like it!"

...

So I go outside and sure enough there are two BIG crows on the roof of my car. One is near the driver's side and pecking at the window and at the rubber molding there really intently.

I manage to chase them away but later someone else I work with calls and says "Well I tried to chase the crows on your car away but they just stared at me like they were mocking me so I left them alone. I've seen that Hitchcock movie!"

I double checked my car - no - there's no food in there. Typical stuff like motor oil and water in the trunk. I don't even have a pack of gum in my car. So I can't figure out why they were picking on my car with such determination.

Maybe there's a reason? Anyone have any thoughts about this or about crows in general?

and this is judgement day, so why don't you stay -
and we're killing some time before it kills us anyway -
waiting for the new light...

Interesting. I've heard of another person feeling like the ravens were following him. I'm not sure what the significance is, though.

CROW

Keeper of the Sacred Law

Crows are the keepers of the Sacred Law
and to have a Crow totem is very powerful.

Personal Integrity are your watchwords
and your guide in Life.
If you have a Crow totem, your prime path
is to be mindful of your opinions and actions.
You must be willing to walk your talk,
to speak your truth and to know your life's mission.

Crow is a omen of Change.
Crow lives in the void and has no sense of time,
therefore, it sees past, present and future simultaneously.
Crow merges both light and dark, both inner and outer.
It is the totem of the Great Spirit
and must be respected as such.

They are symbols of creation and spiritual strength.
Look for opportunities to create and manifest the magic of life.
Crows are messengers calling to us
about the creation and magic that is alive in the world today
and available to us. http://www.linsdomain.com/totems/pages/crow.htm

In this way they seem to always be in council with each other. They often raise a ruckus when hunters are around, warning deer and other birds. Crows recognize possible danger and always post lookouts when feeding---thier most vulnerable time.

Law
There is a medicine story that tells of Crow's fascination with her own shadow.
She kept looking at it, scratching it, pecking at it, until her shadow woke up and became alive. Then Crow's shadow ate her. Crow is Dead Crow now.
Dead Crow is the Left-Handed Guardian. If you look deeply into Crow's eye, you
will have found the gateway to the supernatural. Crow knows the unknowable mysteries of creation and is the keeper of all sacred law.
Since Crow is the keeper of sacred law, Crow can bend the laws of the physical
universe and "shape shift." This ability is rare and unique. Few adepts exist in today's
world, and fewer still have mastered Crow's art of shape shifting. This art includes
doubling, or being in two places at one time consciously; taking on another physical form, and becoming the "fly on the wall" to observe what is happening far away.
The Europeans that came to Turtle Island were named the "boat people" by Slow
Turtle. Even with the knowledge of alchemy possessed by certain boat people, none had
ever seen the powerful shape shifting of shamans who utilized Crow medicine. Many
boat people were frightened by what appeared to be animals coming into their camps or dwellings to discern their medicine. Crow medicine people are masters of illusion.
All sacred texts are under the protection of Crow. Creator's Book of Laws or Book
of Seals is bound in Crow feathers. Crow feathers tell of spirit made flesh. Crow is also the protector of the "ogallah" or ancient records.
The Sacred Law Belts, or Wampum Belts, beaded by native women long before
the boat people or Europeans came to this continent, contain knowledge of the Great
Spirit's laws, and are kept in the Black Lodges, the lodges of women. The law which
states that "all things are born of women," is signified by Crow.
Children are taught to behave according to the rules of a particular culture. Most
orthodox religious systems create a mandate concerning acceptable behavior within the
context of worldly affairs. Do this and so, and you will go to heaven. Do thus and so,
and you will go to hell. Different formulas for salvation are demanded by each "true
faith."
Human law is not the same as Sacred Law. More so than any other medicine,
Crow sees that the physical world and even the spiritual world, as humanity interprets
them, are an illusion. There are billions of world. There are an infinitude of creatures.
Great Spirit is with all. If an individual obeys Crow's perfect laws as given by the
Creator, then at death, he or she dies a Good Medicine death - going on to the next
incarnation with a clear memory of his or her past.

Crow is an omen of change. Crow lives in the void and has no sense of time. The
Ancient Chiefs tell us that Crow sees simultaneously the three fates - past, present, and future. Crow merges light and darkness, seeing both inner and outer reality.
If Crow medicine appears in your card spread, you must pause and reflect on how
you see the laws of the Great Spirit in relation to the laws of humanity. Crow medicine signifies a firsthand knowledge of a higher order of right and wrong than that indicated by the laws created in human culture. With Crow medicine, you speak in a powerful voice when addressing issues that for you seem out of harmony, out of balance, out of whack, or unjust.
Remember that Crow looks at the world with first one eye, and then the othercross-eyed. In the Mayan culture, cross-eyeds had the privilege and duty of looking into
the future. You must put aside your fear of being a voice in the wilderness and "caw" the shots as you see them.
As you learn to allow your personal integrity to be your guide, your sense of
feeling alone will vanish. Your personal will can then emerge so that you will stand in your truth. The prime path of true Crow people says to be mindful of your opinions and actions. Be willing to walk your talk, speak your truth, know your life's mission, and balance past, present, and future in the now. Shape shift that old reality and become your future self. Allow the bending of physical laws to aid in creating the shape shifted world of peace.

Overview
The shamanic ability to be "Shape shifters" - to perform magikal acts of bringing about desired changes in accordance with the will - was sometimes referred to by the Indians as "Crow Medicine," for Crow helps to change/shape the future.
Crow, as a power animal, is urging you to let the past be your teacher. You
cannot change it, but you can look into it and recognize those beliefs that have caused
you suffering, so that you can now discard them. The present is the only true reality, for it is in the Now that the Future is created and fashioned. Change your thoughts and you change your future. Crow urges you to make more effective use of the present moment, and let the future be an inspiration.
Crow also signifies the need to find proper balance between ideals and practical
reality, and reveals the ability to create the kind of future you want - if you apply your will to it. Shaping the future.
Focus on the positive. Detach from negativity. See opportunities in every challenge.

Hi BRMoon:

This really doesn't apply to the crow aspect. However, where I'm from (and it could be universal) there's an old tale that if a bird flies into a closed window, a death is close.

I know this sounds pretty silly. Trust me I know.

Last winter my Cappie friend and I were sitting in my living room... it was snowing and we were looking out the sliding patio doors... there were tons of red cardinals (which look amazing in white snow) then all of a sudden one of them flew right into the door. It died.

I told him about the saying that goes along with that. Of course he was skeptical.

A few weeks later a close relative died suddenly.

Now I don't know if it was just "one of them" or not.

The symbol known as crow's foot also called the Witch's Foot, carried dire meanings, Medieval superstition claimed that witches used crow's feet to cast death spells. The raven/crow is one of my MIL guides ... so i have some info on it ... of course, there's much more out there and the poem my Edgar Allen Poe too.

My cousin is Alaskan Native and has taught me that the Raven symbolizes... great intelligence

A Raven's Wisdom/Lessons Includes:

  • Rebirth without fear
[*}Ability to tear down what needs to be rebuilt
  • Renewal
  • Curiosity
  • Intelligence
  • Ability to find light in darkness
  • Courage of self-reflection
  • Introspection
  • Magic
  • Comfort with self
  • Honoring ancestors
  • Connection to the Crone
  • Divination
  • Change in consciousness
  • New occurrences
  • Eloquence (not only in thier language but ours as well, since they can be taught words, like parrots)

Below is a Native American Legend of the Raven. One that i've heard. Theres many variations of this Legend but all tell the same story.

Raven Steals the Lights

The Raven is the transformer, trickster and creator. Known in legends as the one who released the sun, moon, and stars; discovered man in a clamshell; brought the salmon and the water; and taught man how to fish and hunt.

Raven in Kwaguilth culture is known as the sky messenger of the animal kingdom. The Raven is famous for being a somewhat mischievous glutton. He was always out to please himself and have a good time, but his adventures always ended up bettering mankind.

The story of "Raven Steals the Lights" is legendary. An old man lived in a house on the bank of a river with his only child – a daughter. At this time, it was pitch black everywhere and no one could see anything. So whether she was beautiful or not, there wasn’t a way anyone could tell. Thus begins the tale of the Raven and the Sun. It’s said that the old man kept the Sun locked in a box inside a box, which had yet another box containing an infinite number of boxes until finally there was one so small that all it could contain was all the light in the universe.

The Raven was not satisfied with the state of darkness since it led to his blundering and bumping into everything. This slowed him down in his pursuit of the good things in life, which was what he loved more than getting into mischief. One day he crashed into the old man’s house and he heard the man and his daughter talking about the light. He decided he wanted the light for himself so he waited for the daughter to leave the house. He transformed himself into a pine needle to slip into a bucket of water. When the daughter drank the water and swallowed the pine needle, the Raven transformed himself into a tiny human being inside her. When he emerged, he was a very odd looking child, but it was too dark to noticed his long nose and the few feathers still clinging to him.

As the Raven/Child gained the affection of the old man, he devised a plan to get the Sun. He asked for the largest box in the house and upon being refused, he cried and screamed so loudly that the Grandfather gave him the box. After all it was only one and there were so many more. It took many days, but after a few well-executed tantrums the Raven/Child removed all the boxes. When only a few were left, a strange radiance began to suffuse the room. The Raven/Child begged to hold the light for only a few moments, and even though the Grandfather had come to love the Raven/Child with only a glimpse of him, he gave him the light. As the light was passed to him, the Raven/Child transformed into a huge Raven. He snapped up the light and flew up the smoke hole of the house into the darkness of the world.

The Raven now rejoiced with his new possession and was having such a good time that he did not see the Eagle come upon him. In a panic, he swerved and dropped almost half the light he was carrying. It fell to the rocky ground and broke into pieces. They bounced back into the sky and remain there to this day as the Moon and the Stars.

Meanwhile, the Raven was pursued to the edge of the world and, exhausted, he finally let go of his last piece of light. It fell to the East and that is how the Raven gave us the Sun.

~ang

i'll check thru my other info on them and post more later!

The Raven

Ravens have a long history of myth and lore associated with them. In some native tribes they are known as the "keeper of secrets." They hold the teachings of mysticism and magic. Ravens are linked to the void, where universal secrets are stored. Their inky black color is the color associated with darkness. The darkness is a place where unconscious fears live. Raven, a master magician, embodies the energy of transformation and shows us how to eliminate our inner demons.

Ravens are the largest songbirds in North America. They are extremely intelligent and are clever mimics. They incorporate and mimic calls of other species and can teach us how to understand the language of animals. They have also been known to learn some human words.

The raven knows the mystery of life. They have an intimate association with death and rebirth. Because raven would feed on the corpses of the dead hanging on the gallons, early European settlers feared this bird and considered it to be an ill omen. In truth, however, raven should be respected not feared.

There are many stories in native cultures about this illusive black bird. Shamans know the power of an unexpected piercing sound in altering consciousness. Ravens exercise this power, emitting a variety of sounds and can aid us in shifting our consciousness into various dimensional realms. This is one reason why the raven is known as a shape shifter with magical powers. Anyone with raven as a totem can expect continual changes and spiritual awakenings throughout their life.

Raven picks its students according to their accumulated wisdom. It flies into a persons life carrying the energy of magic and healing. If it decides to settle in and take up residence, it will stay as long as necessary to aid you in transmuting your karma then return you to the light. It will push, prod, and lead you into the discovery of your multidimensional self and reunite you with the secrets of the multidimensional universe. Those with this totem should remember to meet raven, not with fear, but rather with an appreciation for the teachings that it holds.

Thats all i can find right now on my work computer that i have saved. I'll check my files and paper work at home over the weekend and see if i can find anything else.

~ang

BTW Hexxie, loved all the info you gave there. Very interesting indeed. And lalalinda too ... neat to see how its all broken up into the number of crows.
